The silencer of a gun istn't actually there to silence the sound of the shot!

It suppresses the flash , the gunfire , while you shoot a firearm. NOT THE SOUND!

Silencers cut down on not only the flash, but most of the sound of the bullet firing. It doesnt do anything about the actual sound of the bullet flying through the air at supersonic speeds however, which is why people often use a combination of silencers and subsonic ammunition.

If you couldn't actually suppress the loud cracking boom of explosive gases when a projectile is fired from a weapon there would hardly be a reason to take the time to manufacture and attach the thing to your pistol would it? Think about it. If the sound you get from a suppressed weapon sounds the same as one without one, then why would anyone bother? Watch Sons of Guns.

But still, what it shows in the trailer is fairly accurate as to what happens in real life. There is almost always the loud crack, all the surpressor does is dampen it so the sound doesn't travel. If you measure the actual db level its not a whole lot different either way. Believe it or not guns aren't anything like are in video games. ;)

Exactly. The shot was a close up, and so it means we're listening to what's happening from right beside the gun. At a distance, a silencer would take away more, but a that range you can still hear it easily.
