Hi Betty! I love your videos and I am from Lexington. I must say though "the scenic route" to Shaker Town scared me so much growing up, I was sure we would drive over the edge. haha! :)
BettysKitchen: You have a beautiful family. I look so forward to all your videos, I love the way you present everything. Thanks for all your hard work!
a silly friend of a friend once was going on and on about how she visited shakertown and IT WAS SO BORING! what a goose! i'm like what do you want a roller coaster?
We eat soups all the time in our house. Tomatoe soup is mine and my daughters favorite soup which we eat that all the time with salad and celery soup is my hubby's favorite soup. So my request is that you make the tomatoe and celery soup. Thank you ! Pretty please ; ) Hugs
I thought the ferry was very cool...how much does that cost?
Growing up in New Hampshire they made chicken croquettes because most people were French Canadians but they were about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide, not balls with a chicken gravy on top...
I never heard of Chess pie and the lemon was another new one on me but they looked delicious and wondered what was inside? It was beautiful there and I like your accent and you seem like a very nice lady...
The ferry is free. I thought about making the chicken croquettes and also the chess pie, because I had the recipe for both, but I just can't find the time to make everything I like! Thanks for your lovely comment!
This is a great idea Betty showing us your lunch and also that lovely river with the ferry. It is as if I was there with you and Rick. I look forward to seeing some more of your videos. This is much better for you than teaching mathematics !
Well, it's more fun that teaching math! Thanks for your sweet comments! I will be showing you a lot more of Kentucky, as well as demonstrating Southern cooking. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks for the compliment on our Crossfire! We are enjoying it, especially for these little day trips. I'm glad you enjoy the trips. Thanks for your sweet comment!
Wow, Another very SPECIAL TREAT!!! Just luv this Shaker field trip,...and the vittles, wow, what your hubby Richard was gonna have seemed mighty fine to me, chicken croquettes, au gratin potatoes and corn pudding(licks lips), 5* for ya Betty and thanx again for sharin' this special trip with Richard and you! = )
I wish I could have given more information on the Shakers...I was trying to focus of the food and figure out what all of you might like to see. Thanks for your lovely comment!
Wonderful trip Betty! I love these little field trips, and the restaurant was lovely! It was also very interesting learning about the Shaker lifestyle. Thanks for the trip Betty! =)
I have always been under the impression that burgoo was a Kentucky dish. I plan to make it on bettyskitchen sometime, but it will be awhile, because my request list is very long! Thanks for your question!
Betty, thank you for your video! The Shakers were an amazing people. There are few still in active practice today in certain parts of the country. The Shakers are credited with inventing some of our most common household items, like the corn broom and the washing machine. Thanks again!
You're welcome! Yes, there are *so* many things that the Shakers made! I wish I could have spent more time on the Shaker community and life! Thanks for your nice comment!
Again, wanted to say that was a lovely trip. I have never seen a shaker village and loved the beautiful pottery and furniture..makes me want a road trip! I have been thru parts of KY around Lexington going somewhere else but now I wish I had toured KY on it's own. TY and Rick for the lovely armchair trip, hehe..was a nice adventure! Keep up the good videos and recipes!----Angie
Oh, Angie, you'll be seeing a lot more of KY! You may be asking me to stop! (We still have horse racing, distilleries, wineries, historic inns, famous hotels, etc.) I hope you come along!
Hi Betty, great trip! Finally good 2 see, Rick..u all make a very handsome couple.I am surprised Rick is normal sized w/all that good cooking & chocolate delights you're always fixin' lol..somebody must be getting fat around there..where's the dog? lol..hope u make the soup as it looked tasty & girl u do not eat enough to keep a bird alive! That little tiny bowl of soup would've been an appetizer 4 me & u only ate 1/2 of it, guess thats why ur tiny & im not! lol. Interesting variation lemon pie.
Rick has put on a little weight, but you guessed right--the dog is getting much more than he used to, and I think he's put on some weight! Everything we had at Shakertown was really good. I hope you like the soup recipe!
I love your trips and especially the follow ups with a recipe or two based on what you ate at your trip. They are very enjoyable and you seem to enjoy to eat at the types of places I love to visit.
I really hope you will be able to share the tomato soup and the lemon pie. They both looked quite good.
The Kentucky tourism board should sponsor your outings =) I love those shaker pegs. I don't think I have ever seen those before or maybe have not noticed them on tv. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Betty for the mini vacation...I love your trips..and cant wait to see what you decide to cook from this trip..I always enjoy your videos especially with your husband. This Monday is my Wedding anniversary and I will be married 34 years and we are going to take a day trip...you inspire me, Betty..thank you, hugs from Rhode Island...

Is Burgoo a Kentucky dish or is it from Virginia? Is it something that you make?
Thx
