@kittyhero98 You should give it a try! Most hunts love to have guests and welcome new people that want to try out the sport. Many have experienced hunt horses that you can rent/borrow a few times to get started. If you are near a hunt and want to try it out, you should contact the hunt's secretary and ask about it.
@Foxhillstacey Thanks :) But I live in what you would call a 'small town' We only have run down farms and old over grown wood trails, and my horse Misa is a cutter I believe, she'd never do that for me :) I tried to get her to jump once but she really badly failed XD But that looks super super fun
@kittyhero98 You don't necessarily need to jump--most hunts have "Hilltoppers" that take a longer path and go through gates. You can still practice some of the skills with your horse. Get some friends together and practice on the trails you have. Go at different speeds, practice halting quickly, and let different people lead the group. It is very interesting how horses respond. Best of luck!
@horseygal7302 Hunt attire varies a little bit from one hunt to another, but most hunts require something similar. In my hunt, the red or "pink" coats are only worn by staff or gentlemen with colors. Unless they are staff or masters, ladies never wear the scarlet coats. The clothing is mostly designed to be very practical. There is a wonderful book/pamphlet that has been around for years called "Riding To Hounds In America" by William Wadsworth. You can get it thru Pony Club,or the Chronicle.
i dont mean to sound like a a know it all but i think they should put boots on thier horses bc it doesnt sound too good when yu can hear thier legs hitting the wood
@easyjackcody It is tricky because if you go through water or muddy, mucky areas, most boots get drenched and either slide down the horse's legs or cause irritation to their skin. What makes them soft also tends to make them absorbent. Fleece is really awful because it picks up debris of all kinds. I tried using boots once once and had to remove them and carry them the rest of the hunt!
@Foxhillstacey Amazing! Is this in England? I thought about taking my Thoroughbred for a few hunter paces sept. or Nov... Not with dogs, but similar at least.. There must be at least 100 horses out there! and more dogs!
@JustBecause110 Yes, the USA! Traditional foxhunting is popular in many countries including the USA. Sadly, it was banned in England several years ago. I believe drag hunting (without a live fox) is still going on there. To learn more about hunting in the United States, go to the Masters of Foxhound Association website.
@JustBecause110 Yes, but mostly the hounds follow the fox scent and very rarely catch them. In England, the foxes are much more of a nuisance because there are no larger predatory animals such as wolves to keep them in check. They breed unchecked there and are very numerous and are considered pests. Here in the US, that is not the case. They are not nearly as common. So, although we do pursue live foxes, the goal is not to kill them.
holy crap!! That is a lot of dogs!! Hahaha..its kinda funny watching them jumping it..they just keep coming and coming! and I don't see how people do that! I'd be too nervous about my horse acting up or something!! Gosh..I wish I wasn't such a wimp!
@edlovehorses Yes, there are a lot of hounds (foxhunters call them hounds rather than dogs) and they do seem to love what they do! They have been bred for hundreds of years to hunt.
You never know which horses will hunt well and which won't. Some go out and are perfectly behaved while others get a bit out of control!
that looks awesome!

@Foxhillstacey Have to say they are called pink coats, because of the man who invented the purpose of them's last name is Pink.

@iridedolly I've heard that too, but nobody has ever found firm evidence of this. Makes a good story though!

I love how the dogs all scrambled over the jump after the horse! It kind of reminded me of 101 Dalmatians.
