@09SRILANKA as you wish. I'm not sure if you have an idea of what is really going to go on for you. I'm safe I'm going away to a safe place before it all starts. :-)
@HardeyLeone. Well i feel safe enough, nothing to hide, im not acriminal or a smackhead, if the Police ask me a question ill answer it as honestly as i can, but i guess ive been raised that way. CCTV can watch me and my family all day long, if anyone tries to rob us they will be captured on CCTV. I will be doing nothing wrong, i wouldnt class it as a breach of my human rights. Most victims will be looking for the nearest CCTV when they are a victim of crime.
@HardeyLeone. Im not joking, we live in a society where lawyers in the UK advertise themselves as "Criminal Defence Lawyers" it should say "we get rich getting you off the hook for something you are quite clearly guilty of" & you wont have to pay a penny but the taxpayer will pick up your legal aid bill. Bring on the CCTV & increase stop/search powers for Police, curfew after 10 for anyone under say 17 who is not in company of a responsible adult say over 21 without good reason, stop asbo SCUM!
@HardeyLeone. Curfews should be in place for the ASBO type youths of this era who bring misery on our society. Im sick of hearing all this human rights stuff, if a Police officer asks you your name if youre a youth after 10pm just give it & accept being stop searched as a reason as to why the Police are around to prevent crime, ASBO and protect people and property. The Police will have a reason, its a joke to say its a breach of some crap or other, theyre just doing their jobs.
That's awesome. Wish we have people with balls like that in our system. It's sooo odd.... why are these ID cards being pushed in other countrys other than the U.S? Thought it was all about 911 and homeland security in the u.s. Hmmm Looks like the whole world now at the same time. One world order it looks like. We all need to band together against this terrany.
ME: I'll go to court rather than follow the undemocratic EU laws.
i wear a poppy because those people who fought for our independence in ww1 and ww2 were great people, unlike lib dems who would like us to forget about our history and culture so we can become subjects to the European union.
You fucking hypocrite - and two faced idiot. Enjoy your short time in office - you will never be elected again. You have done a great disservice to your party. The idiot is not truly English.
they had to scrap them becuase mis informed nut jobs like you say was informing normal people like yourself - but dont think that this is the end of it - bio metric passports is the base for the coming international system that will see the introduction of the new one world currency - get ready to pay for your groceries with your fingerprint and/or iris scan. CleggCamsham!! Voters who flirt with Nick Clegg are likely to end up married to David Cameron!!
Cameron's trying to get into bed with Clegg because he knows the polls point to a hung parliament and he's losing .....Vote Labour you know it makes sense Rodney...
That's funny to hear Nick Clegg say he won't get the ID card, but I know why. He's now running for PM, he speaks out against the unpopular ID cards, but he is a supporter of joining the EU, & the EU is introducing biometric passports & they'll keep a data base of your prints on permanent record. So who needs an ID card when they can have your bio info on perm record? Not just for criminals any longer, it's also for every law abiding citizen.
Was going to vote Conservative, but Clegg's performance on the live debate and manifesto got me looking at videos. This is really good. I agree 100%, and glad to see he has the conviction to stand for his principles.
Totally agree with Nick Clegg, ID cards are a bad idea and will further institutionalise the way people live. We need a Liberal society, not a state controlled or directed one.
NIcks a Hero, I will go on a hungar strike before I am forced to have one, I will go to court and I will protest and protest and protest....AND I will vote the Liberal Democrats in May with pride
I have saved this to my NWO playlist because that is who is behind this baloney, the I.D. What's Next? I'll Tell ya what's next, it'll be EZID in your flesh.
Well done Mr Clegg, ill be joining you for a bit of porridge if they bring in ID cards. Civil Liberties and good morals are our most valuable assets as human beings. The majority of Britain's elite seem to think wealth and security are more important. I wish British people would finally start using their own brains and vote Lib Dem.
I TOTALLY AGREE!!! We are not far away from what nazi Germany was like in the early 1930's. I have no intention ofbeing forced to accept an i.d. card. The present government are not too dissimilar to the nazis. They have far too much information as it is. Ibelieve all this information is leading to the "new world order" that is designed to take away all civil liberties in preparation for the anti-christ's rule as warned of in the Holy Bible. Man thinks HE is in control butSATANICforceesARE
what you might want to ask nick clegg is that as an ex mep is it true that he is in line for a 60k pension from the eu and if this is the case then isn't this a conflict of interest when it comes to matters of the eu, isn't this why he is so wet about being critical of eu corruption and why he reneged on holding a referendum on the eu constitution.
I think the government should start looking for alternatives to the ID card to satisfy their objectives for it. So many people oppose it lib dems, conservatives and the plans for introducing the card and national identity database have changed so much in recognition of socities feeling toward them. The cost also is insane and can only go up.
I feel its a natural reaction to address homeland security after an attack but i dont think ID cards are the way forward
7/7 WAS AN INSIDE JOB JUST AS MUCH AS 9 11 - they wanted ID to get peoples biometrics on a database - they will now get it via the passport system drivers license and a probable new nhs card or extra security for credit cards - like the european federal state they will get there way one way or the other.
If you have nothing to hide, then you should not have a problem with the ID cards. If you are doing criminal activity or plan too, then I understand why people are against it. This does not take away freedoms, as you are still free as a person. The ID cards will help to solve and prevent crime.
ID cards will help to prevent and send back illegals in the country that do crime or are passing on diseases to the citizens. They will help to streamline the information process with regard to health and all other government services. You already have ID like a drivers lic., or a passport. So what's the difference for a national ID card? It's one in the same. It may also help to prevent terrorists from entering or staying within the country. How can you see any wrong in that?
diffuse: Are you the grammar Nazi or something? Just because someone puts to instead of too does not take away from their beliefs. Way to not have anything of worth to say on the subject. You think you live in a free world? You can reasonably expect what is given to you or, for what you are "allowed" to do. Yet, you call me the idiot? How blind and stupid you are; you don't even see the world for what it already is.
digrammernazi: Um sorry dude, may be your write. Moor peoples shude now there grammer to be done to bedder. I under stand the impotence of all it is. How dare any one have openkneon without to no bedder of grammer? I am two say round all them up and put a way for live. I am to be support of you digrammernazi..... LOL, Fucktard! Does it drive you insane grammar Nazi?
I stood as a labour canndidate in a local election a few years ago but I have left the party now. Its corrupt and wrong. I will never carry an ID card. Brown the Nazi can fry in hell.
@kiittyteco - BIO METRIC PASSPORTs - who needs an ID card, while you were looking over there, they did the deed over there. ITS A SHAME YOU CANT TRUST NICK CLEGG.
@Tashadragon - they had to scrap them becuase mis informed nut jobs like you say was informing normal people like yourself - but dont think that this is the end of it - bio metric passports is the base for the coming international system that will see the introduction of the new one world currency - get ready to pay for your groceries with your fingerprint and/or iris scan. As a keen Labour supporter I feel Nick Clegg, and other pesky freeethinkers should be quiet.
As a proud Labour supporter I feel that the people of Britain are a problem and should be dealt with by ID cards, CCTV surveillance and RFID chips implanted in their arms at birth.
A large proportion of UK tax's should also be sent to our masters in the EU to provide for Neil Kinnocks pension scheme as an MEP.
I'm slightly right of centre, but even I would vote for the Lib Dems if the other parties do not abandon their reckless and authoritarian views. I guess I'll join you in prison Mr Clegg, because I will not have one either.

You lot make me laugh.
Take CCTV for instance. Picture a school. A small kiddy comes out and a ford focus stops and a middle aged male grabs a small girl and makes off. Hits the Motorway and gone! Small girl raped and murdered and buried in a grave inside the new forest, never to be found!!!
Or.. CCTV hit the vehicle and its tracked to the M1. ANPR pinged it and girl saved and the fuckin paedo caged!!
You make me laugh willymacbride, you obviously have not thought this through. Criminals are not stupid on the contrary they are very clever and take precautionary measures to minimise the risk of being caught. CCTV for example, all one has to do is put a hoodie on and cover half of the face and it is rendered useless, the cars number plates simply have to be covered or changed and CCTV is useless again!CCTV is more or less pointless but i do acknowledge it is needed but not in the amount we have
Even thou criminals have preventive measures there's always ways around it. I work in personal security and advise companies/govenments abroad on security. I agree that one or two cameras dotted around have not a great deal of purpose, but constant monitoring ie. on motorways is a good idea, unless you like to speed then it's not so good. However, speed limits are another issue to which i have strong thoughts as well!
There's not always a way around it willy! Lets just say that your scenario of the little girl being kidnapped really happened (god forbid). So how is a camera going to trace the kidnapper when he has covered his face and number plates? Futher he could just use that car for the kidnapping and transfer into another car, change clothes etc. How would CCTV prevent that crime from happening? 'Constant monitoring' as you put it, simply means we the law abiding give our privacy up for a few bad apples.
I agree totally, but i'd rather have that then have my son abducted. I don't know your circumstances but i'd have check points at every corner if it meant my family were safe. We live in a shitty world my friend and even thou one man thinks its intrusive, another thinks its sense.
There's no end to this debate because it's opinion but im afraid that it will be the future.
I wish it wasn't and we lived in a 50's style Britain, but we don't.
Ty Willy. I cannot help but wonder why you would want CCTV cameras even though they do very little to prevent crime? Are you really saying that you are prepared to give up our freedom, privacy and human rights for a group of terrorists? Well if thats the case then we sure know who won this battle. We have fought wars after wars to defend the freedoms and liberty we have and i for one will never surrender what we have worked so hard to accomplish.
No Mr Prag, it's not got anything to do with terrorism now. What i'm trying to say is i would gladly be monitored if one day it would prevent my son being taken. I'm not saying i totally agree with CCTV flooding, but it's a small price (for me anyway, i have nothing to hide lol).
I know all about the wars mate, i've been in most of them in some way or another.
I have a close friend who's a cop in Chester-Le-Street (CLS). Now CLS is covered in CCTV, well the town centre is anyway. Criminals don't even do into the centre because of this. The only prob is they target the houses. Now nearby at the coast, forgot the towns name, there is NO CCTV in the town centre and the commercial burglarys are just as common as dwellings.
Now im not saying its the answer, but those figures show a difference between the 2.

If you're not breaking the law then you have nothing to worry about.
You're missing a big point here, and that's the fact that CCTV is operated by people. They aren't in their offices watching us go about our lives, they're looking for things out of the ordinary, and to be honest, I don't have an issue with a camera watching me - watch me all day long if they like, I don't feel as if I have "surrendered" my privacy, because remember, in a public space you have no privacy in the first place.
Daniel dont use the old "If you're not breaking the law then you have nothing to worry about" because it is bull.Fact is CCTV does not and will not deter crime and more then often the criminals are not identifiable as i have said previously a hood and half of the face covered and CCTV is useless and cannot be used in a court of law so it amazes me that the small percentage still want CCTV even though it has been proven to be a waste of taxpayers £££.You're the one missing the point my friend.
Daniel please do some research before you start to comment on this:
Detective Chief Inspector Mike Neville head of Scotland Yards Visual Images Identifications said cameras do not act as a deterrent.
Det Ch Insp Neville said only 3 per cent of London's street robberies had been solved using CCTV images.
"Billions of pounds has been spent on kit, but no thought has gone into how the police are going to use the images and how they will be used in court. It's been an utter fiasco"
DanielDoylem: That is just the tip of the iceberg. Of course naive people like yourself who know no better would be more then happy to give your Iris scans, DNA, fingerprints and all past history to ensure your safety because after all "If you're not breaking the law then you have nothing to worry about"!!! Well its not as if DNA, fingerprints etc are conclusive are they? Mistakes have never been made? They have never lost our data..or have they? Seems like your living in fantasy land.
They gave every state in the US an extension! But we still have to give biometric ID to the MVA/DMV.(thumbscan) Hey my car starts weither I got a license in my pocket or not!
When the day the election comes, one will have to make a choice. The choices are a continuation of Old, New Labour and have your rights disappear or vote in the Tories who will bring back Thatcherism and your rights will still disappear. Not much of a choice is it?
I loved Clegg's attempt at rank opportunism on the eve of the Crewe by-election, promising fantasy tax cuts. In fact, the Limp Dims lost over a fifth of their vote. According to them, they "held their vote". Really? Does a 20% loss amount to a holding of a vote?
It is truelly depressing the high percentage of those who vote for the Lib.Dims. who genuinely believe they are voting for The Liberal Party and although the majority of those voting Lib.Dim. wish not only to retain our own currency, our own borders, our own system of Justice, our right to make laws at Westminster and our independence as a sovereign nation co-operating with other nations and peoples around the world yet the Lib.Dim. party itself is in favour of direct undemocratic rule by the EU
At times I wonder if it is something I dreamt.Surely most people must recognise that this course of events is wrong and uproar amongst the population to quickly follow. When are the people of the UK going to react to the growing threat to our way of life?
We live in surreal times.I read about things like kids under the age of 10 being fingerprinted and being placed on a DNA database and yet there seems no debate happening in the working environment.
Too true man. The brain dead need to wake up out of their slumber of mind numbing distractions that have been intentionally placed there for them, so they don't see the big picture of what is going on behind the scenes of government, and what their true agenda for the masses really is.
Good on him. I'm not a Lib Dem, but someone has to protect our civil liberties. What happened to the notion of 'innocent until proven guilty?'. The national ID database gives everyone the same treatment currently reserved for criminals. It's a disgrace and we musn't let the government get so much power over our lives!
The card is nothing. The national identity register is what people should be discussing. You're details will be on the NIR thanks to biometric passports anyway, so the ID card itself isn't doing anything.
So when you renew your passport in just over a years time you'll have to go through the biometrics process. If you don't want this, you'll have to give up your right to travel.
He's boring and irrelevant. He's obsessed on civil liberties and would rather have criminals roaming the streets with all their rights committing hideous crimes. He's against security cameras and dna databse, yes... forget security, freedom for the criminals/paedophiles/rapist/murderers. No thank you, I'll vote labour
so you're happy with having a government that couldn't even keep child benefit records safe keeping all your details. Plus what kind of people will be collecting these details? Could a terrorist/fraudster actually end up getting a job working for the NIR? What about corruption?
Only someone with half a brain would vote Labour.I'm extremely proud to have had a Grandfather who fought in the 2nd world war in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that we have but if people make the mistake of voting in a Labour government we will soon be living in a fascist police state.
lol you sound SO MUCH like an US republican. ANYONE who ignores their own thoughts in favour of party politics is a fool. These people do not represent you. Modern politics is all about self-glorification.
I have asked the question time and time again. What is the point of the Liberal Democrat Party? IT IS A TOTALLY WASTED VOTE. More so since this guy CLEGG thinks that he can really change everything for the better. So far, all that has come from his mouth is a lot of rhetoric lambasting the Labour and Conservative parties
Nick Clegg, Lying bastard. Quote "british people died to protect our freedoms" Clegg wouldn't even vote against the Lisbon treaty to protect our freedoms. If the EU Unelected mandarins offered Clegg a top job in Europe (like Bliar) He would change his tune.
Finally a well known MP that actually has the balls to stand up to the introduction of the ID cards.I don't think he will go to court about it though, but I would hope he'll gain some more support in the commons.Go Super Clegg!
its funny eh, nick clegg the euro fanatic he talks about civil liberties, when all these iliberal laws are being passed in europe and you have no way of voting these eurocrats out of power then the people do not even have the basic liberty of voting in or out the people who make the laws of the country, the way that nick clegg has betrayed the voters who elected him and his mps by breaking their election manifestio just shows he is as dodgy and bogus as the rest.
hope you will put your money where your mouth is mr clegg you have my vote if you do. they way it is being brought in is so underhand - to the vulnerable first those that can not say no - this shows that it is something fishy going off. lets see more of this authority figures standing up to id cards on main stream media please.
There is no escape BioMetric ID is being rolled out on mass, globally (roughly at the same time, coincidence?) IN FACT this policy fulfills the revealations prophecy 666. People have their eye on the 'microchip implant' but once they have got your BioMetrics you just give your fingerprint/iris scan to pay for your 'groceries'. You think 'they' can not track you research RFID chips (on ID card) these things are now NANO size soon tobe everywhere CLOTHES CARS FOOD (yes inside food research RFID)
the libs dem have my vote and im leaving the country make your escape plans while you can. the cleverer jews did in the nazi uprising .the not so clever ended up in concentration camps .which the fascist new lab have planned and are secretley building. so see you all in spain or in the concentration camp you wont be getting an option to go to court as the judged are just part of the plan
I do believe i have seen for the first time in my life a Politician who is not some repressed meglomaniac, are you listening Blair? Rights, Liberties? ring any bells?
I am uneasy with Mr Clegg saying this in the sense it seems to be inpractical. Theres integrity there, yes.. but it would be hard running a main political party from inside a prison and his 'martyrdom' would replace other important issues.
Liebe Genossinnen, liebe Genossen! Jacqui Smith has promised she will personally probe the rectal cavities of the first 100 people summoned to her constituency's new ID Card Interrogation Centre.
Pay close attention the the U.S. May 2008. That's when we are supposed to comply with real id. 17 of our states already have voted to reject the national id card. The people will stand up...I hope
Good luck and all the best with that.Have you any ideas which potential president will reinstate the civil liberties which have been lost under the current administration ?
I cant believe this bloke could maybe be prime minister one day! he doesn't even know his history. im sad that people like him can even become men in power... if this is so... my country is fucked!!
can i just dispell a myth right now! The cards are not there for the police to stop you in the street and demand them at will. The police do not have the time or resources to do that!
That will be the next step - once the cards are in circulation the same lobby's that have been driving for their use will start to then push for compulsory possession.
Thats why I am so against them.
But we will have to beg to differ here. Happy new year to you kris, and take care fella.
There is no reason whatsoever to have us all placed on the National Identity Register. This is totally at odds with what you would expect from a free society.
Incidentally the reichstag fire in Germany led to the curtailing of civil liberties in that country.Look at what has happened in the USA and the UK in terms of legislation in the 'war on terror'.
Ah, just as the speed cameras are there for road safety and NOT to mine people for extra revenue. This is all irrelevent, HMG has not shown there's any real advantage to them, so perhaps the £10+ billion the scheme will cost should be spent elsewhere.
I don't see why we should have speed cameras either. i'm quite partical to scrapping my little boy up of the road after some arse hole has just hit him doing 50 in a 30 zone! I mean that's all they are there for isn't revenue, not saving lives!
Bwahahaha. There's not one shred of evidence to suggest widespread use of speed cameras have reduced road accidents. None whatsoever. Oh, and does your little boy cross the M42 to get to school? No? So do you think we can get rid of the average speed system now covering it without resulting in a sudden child body count?
What!! Of course there is evidence! I'm not saying motorways shouldn't be different but minor roads should be very carefully monitored. A 20 mph speed limit near schools should be in force and stiff penalties for people who break it. motorways are a diff matter. If it works in germany it should work here. There's no excuse for speeding on minor roads.
As a national trend; no there's not (the decades long decline in road fatalies stopped when speed cameras became widespread). There's evidence to suggest that many speed cameras INCREASE accidents.
How many of the 3500 cameras in the UK monitor the [temporary] 20mph speed limit outside the 20,000 primary schools? Camera placement is usually a fiscal decision NOT a safety one, accident hotspots are ignored in favour of long straight sections of A road where people are more likely to speed.
mate, i can't see how speed cameras can increase accidents. Unless you mean the idiots who drive at 90 mph everywhere then have to break hard when they see a camera i can believe it. You couldn't have a camera outside each school i know but penalties for minor road speeding offences should be hard to stop kids dying.
just to correct you on a couple of things! When your grandfather was fughting bravely in world war 11, he only knew the word 'nazi' not the meaning! I can garentee you that if most of the soldiers fighting in that war could see the end result today... they woiuldn't have fought.
Police will not just stop u 'willy nilly' asking for the card, no i thing they have better things to do. It will be used for ID purposes other than street checks. You're right, this isn't communist china. I dispise communists! If a few pounds is all you pay to keep our country safe and ours... then i'll gladly pay. If a few pounds is all we'll pay to stop terrorists wandering the streets, then yes i'll gladly pay!
You know this how? Since the government brought in the "stop & search" anti terror law, 100,000 people and been subjected to random searches (completely at the whim of officers). Not one of them was a terrorist.
All it'll take is a little push and we'll see a fine attached to not carrying an ID card and then suddenly its worth £50 to the local council to catch you without one.
So whats the problem with people beign stop searched for anything?? That's been the law for common criminals since the police and criminal evidence act 1984. Why should anyone that looks as though they could be a terrorist not be stopped?!?

@HardeyLeone. Im not joking, we live in a society where lawyers in the UK advertise themselves as "Criminal Defence Lawyers" it should say "we get rich getting you off the hook for something you are quite clearly guilty of" & you wont have to pay a penny but the taxpayer will pick up your legal aid bill. Bring on the CCTV & increase stop/search powers for Police, curfew after 10 for anyone under say 17 who is not in company of a responsible adult say over 21 without good reason, stop asbo SCUM!

@09SRILANKA. Anyway where do i bend over for this chip, be gentle!
09SRILANKA 1 year ago
@HardeyLeone. Curfews should be in place for the ASBO type youths of this era who bring misery on our society. Im sick of hearing all this human rights stuff, if a Police officer asks you your name if youre a youth after 10pm just give it & accept being stop searched as a reason as to why the Police are around to prevent crime, ASBO and protect people and property. The Police will have a reason, its a joke to say its a breach of some crap or other, theyre just doing their jobs.

The present government are not too dissimilar to the nazis. They have far too much information as it is. Ibelieve all this information is leading to the "new world order" that is designed to take away all civil liberties in preparation for the anti-christ's rule as warned of in the Holy Bible. what you might want to ask nick clegg is that as an ex mep is it true that he is in line for a 60k pension from the eu and if this is the case then isn't this a conflict of interest when it comes to matters of the eu, isn't this why he is so wet about being critical of eu corruption and why he reneged on holding a referendum on the eu constitution.

MrWhatWhatMe 2 years ago
7/7 WAS AN INSIDE JOB JUST AS MUCH AS 9 11 - they wanted ID to get peoples biometrics on a database - they will now get it via the passport system drivers license and a probable new nhs card or extra security for credit cards - like the european federal state they will get there way one way or the other.
1974mjc 2 years ago

You lot make me laugh.
Take CCTV for instance. Picture a school. A small kiddy comes out and a ford focus stops and a middle aged male grabs a small girl and makes off. Hits the Motorway and gone! Small girl raped and murdered and buried in a grave inside the new forest, never to be found!!!
Or.. CCTV hit the vehicle and its tracked to the M1. ANPR pinged it and girl saved and the fuckin paedo caged!!
Nuff said you brain dead twats!
willymacbride 3 years ago
You make me laugh willymacbride, you obviously have not thought this through. Criminals are not stupid on the contrary they are very clever and take precautionary measures to minimise the risk of being caught. CCTV for example, all one has to do is put a hoodie on and cover half of the face and it is rendered useless, the cars number plates simply have to be covered or changed and CCTV is useless again!CCTV is more or less pointless but i do acknowledge it is needed but not in the amount we have
MrPragmatism 3 years ago
Ty for your reply.
However, speed limits are another issue to which i have strong thoughts as well!
willymacbride 3 years ago
There's not always a way around it willy! Lets just say that your scenario of the little girl being kidnapped really happened (god forbid). So how is a camera going to trace the kidnapper when he has covered his face and number plates? Futher he could just use that car for the kidnapping and transfer into another car, change clothes etc. How would CCTV prevent that crime from happening? 'Constant monitoring' as you put it, simply means we the law abiding give our privacy up for a few bad apples.
MrPragmatism 3 years ago
I agree totally, but i'd rather have that then have my son abducted. I don't know your circumstances but i'd have check points at every corner if it meant my family were safe. We live in a shitty world my friend and even thou one man thinks its intrusive, another thinks its sense.
There's no end to this debate because it's opinion but im afraid that it will be the future.
I wish it wasn't and we lived in a 50's style Britain, but we don't.
willymacbride 3 years ago
MrPragmatism 3 years ago

They aren't in their offices watching us go about our lives, they're looking for things out of the ordinary, and to be honest, I don't have an issue with a camera watching me - watch me all day long if they like, I don't feel as if I have "surrendered" my privacy, because remember, in a public space you have no privacy in the first place.
danieldoylem 3 years ago

MrPragmatism 3 years ago
DanielDoylem: That is just the tip of the iceberg. Of course naive people like yourself who know no better would be more then happy to give your Iris scans, DNA, fingerprints and all past history to ensure your safety because after all "If you're not breaking the law then you have nothing to worry about"!!! Well its not as if DNA, fingerprints etc are conclusive are they? Mistakes have never been made? They have never lost our data..or have they? Seems like your living in fantasy land.

StudentBlogger89 3 years ago
The card is nothing. The national identity register is what people should be discussing. You're details will be on the NIR thanks to biometric passports anyway, so the ID card itself isn't doing anything.
So when you renew your passport in just over a years time you'll have to go through the biometrics process. If you don't want this, you'll have to give up your right to travel.

I cant believe this bloke could maybe be prime minister one day! he doesn't even know his history. im sad that people like him can even become men in power... if this is so... my country is fucked!!
krisnabb 4 years ago
Mate I'm with you but they will stop at nothing to get this done, even if it means selecting the judge and jury...

can i just dispell a myth right now! The cards are not there for the police to stop you in the street and demand them at will. The police do not have the time or resources to do that!
krisnabb 4 years ago
That will be the next step - once the cards are in circulation the same lobby's that have been driving for their use will start to then push for compulsory possession.
Thats why I am so against them.
But we will have to beg to differ here. Happy new year to you kris, and take care fella.

The ID card legislation was called Fascist legislation by Lord Stoddart of Swindon. The measures would have been welcomed by the Nazis and the Stasi.

There is no reason whatsoever to have us all placed on the National Identity Register. This is totally at odds with what you would expect from a free society.
Incidentally the reichstag fire in Germany led to the curtailing of civil liberties in that country.Look at what has happened in the USA and the UK in terms of legislation in the 'war on terror'.
peaceoman 4 years ago
In terms of legislation I mean since 9/11,which in the book by Ray Griffin was called the American reichstag fire.

Ah, just as the speed cameras are there for road safety and NOT to mine people for extra revenue. This is all irrelevent, HMG has not shown there's any real advantage to them, so perhaps the £10+ billion the scheme will cost should be spent elsewhere.
MRab22 4 years ago
I don't see why we should have speed cameras either. i'm quite partical to scrapping my little boy up of the road after some arse hole has just hit him doing 50 in a 30 zone! I mean that's all they are there for isn't revenue, not saving lives!
krisnabb 4 years ago
Bwahahaha. There's not one shred of evidence to suggest widespread use of speed cameras have reduced road accidents. None whatsoever. Oh, and does your little boy cross the M42 to get to school? No? So do you think we can get rid of the average speed system now covering it without resulting in a sudden child body count?
MRab22 4 years ago
What!! Of course there is evidence! I'm not saying motorways shouldn't be different but minor roads should be very carefully monitored. A 20 mph speed limit near schools should be in force and stiff penalties for people who break it. motorways are a diff matter. If it works in germany it should work here. There's no excuse for speeding on minor roads.
krisnabb 4 years ago
As a national trend; no there's not (the decades long decline in road fatalies stopped when speed cameras became widespread). There's evidence to suggest that many speed cameras INCREASE accidents.
How many of the 3500 cameras in the UK monitor the [temporary] 20mph speed limit outside the 20,000 primary schools? Camera placement is usually a fiscal decision NOT a safety one, accident hotspots are ignored in favour of long straight sections of A road where people are more likely to speed.
MRab22 4 years ago
mate, i can't see how speed cameras can increase accidents. Unless you mean the idiots who drive at 90 mph everywhere then have to break hard when they see a camera i can believe it. You couldn't have a camera outside each school i know but penalties for minor road speeding offences should be hard to stop kids dying.

krisnab - I am as British as you can get.
Rights - I have the right to walk in my city, town or village without having someone demand my ID like this is communist china.
Churchill was against the cards, My grandfather was against the cards and fought to defeat the nazi's who just loved ID cards.
meekhon 4 years ago
just to correct you on a couple of things! When your grandfather was fughting bravely in world war 11, he only knew the word 'nazi' not the meaning! I can garentee you that if most of the soldiers fighting in that war could see the end result today... they woiuldn't have fought.
krisnabb 4 years ago
Police will not just stop u 'willy nilly' asking for the card, no i thing they have better things to do. It will be used for ID purposes other than street checks. You're right, this isn't communist china. I dispise communists! If a few pounds is all you pay to keep our country safe and ours... then i'll gladly pay. If a few pounds is all we'll pay to stop terrorists wandering the streets, then yes i'll gladly pay!
krisnabb 4 years ago
You know this how? Since the government brought in the "stop & search" anti terror law, 100,000 people and been subjected to random searches (completely at the whim of officers). Not one of them was a terrorist.
All it'll take is a little push and we'll see a fine attached to not carrying an ID card and then suddenly its worth £50 to the local council to catch you without one.
MRab22 4 years ago
So whats the problem with people beign stop searched for anything?? That's been the law for common criminals since the police and criminal evidence act 1984. Why should anyone that looks as though they could be a terrorist not be stopped?!?
