he might have said D instead of G the first time, because on the guitar, the D chord looks similar to the G on uke... he says it correctly later, so don't worry, you're right!

I might be wrong but, you play the G chord while saying it was a D chord.

and being that G was the root chord shouldn't that also be the key of the song?

I'm confused!
