Why didn't Mumm-ra just stay like that, if he could do it whenever he wanted? If I could transform like that, it would be the first thing I did every morning. Then instead of pottering about my pyramid being all grumpy and bandagey I'd get the hell out and start being SUPERAWESOME all day.
First, understand that the Spirits are Mumm-Ra's masters; he works for them, not the other way around. They can flat-out refuse him the power if he's been disappointing them.
Also, his stamina is steadily depleted as he remains in his "super state," meaning he must take care of business and then return to his sarcophagus in order to regenerate his powers.
In other words, he can't be that way all day without running out of energy.

Actually, we find out in the last episode that that's not exactly true. They actually have a symbiotic relationship, and Mumm-Ra figures it out: the Ancient Spirits of Evil are helpless to enact any of their power on the physical plane without an avatar, so Mumm-Ra can (and did) refuse THEM, finally, as well!
Easy answer. The series explained this... his transformations gave him supercharged power, but as a price, it drained through his stamina/energy reserves many times faster, forcing him to withdraw to his sarcophagus (which left him in a helpless state) to replenish it. Therefore, the more he transformed, the more times he'd leave himself open to attack while recharging.
The only thing that could end that cycle was the Golden Sphere of Seti, but the ASoE took it from him.
@ImmortalSynn That's right. There were episodes of the old show I think where Mumm-Ra was about to win when all of a sudden he ran out of energy, changed back into his weaker form, and flew back to the pyramid.

Why didn't Mumm-ra just stay like that, if he could do it whenever he wanted? If I could transform like that, it would be the first thing I did every morning. Then instead of pottering about my pyramid being all grumpy and bandagey I'd get the hell out and start being SUPERAWESOME all day.

First, understand that the Spirits are Mumm-Ra's masters; he works for them, not the other way around. They can flat-out refuse him the power if he's been disappointing them.
Also, his stamina is steadily depleted as he remains in his "super state," meaning he must take care of business and then return to his sarcophagus in order to regenerate his powers.
In other words, he can't be that way all day without running out of energy.

Actually, we find out in the last episode that that's not exactly true. They actually have a symbiotic relationship, and Mumm-Ra figures it out: the Ancient Spirits of Evil are helpless to enact any of their power on the physical plane without an avatar, so Mumm-Ra can (and did) refuse THEM, finally, as well!

Easy answer. The series explained this... his transformations gave him supercharged power, but as a price, it drained through his stamina/energy reserves many times faster, forcing him to withdraw to his sarcophagus (which left him in a helpless state) to replenish it. Therefore, the more he transformed, the more times he'd leave himself open to attack while recharging.
The only thing that could end that cycle was the Golden Sphere of Seti, but the ASoE took it from him.

@ImmortalSynn That's right. There were episodes of the old show I think where Mumm-Ra was about to win when all of a sudden he ran out of energy, changed back into his weaker form, and flew back to the pyramid.

I guess maybe he's just happiest pottering around in his pyramid in his bandages, watering the houseplants and darning his robe and stuff. Then those Thundercats show up on his planet and he has to get medieval.

@FlowersInHisHair well, yeah. its just not every episode he decides to become the biggest 100 foot tall pissed off smurf i've ever seen. just this one time. maybe it was at band camp, i dunno. you're right though in essence, ironically mumm-ra existed in a sort of harmony with that earth for millenia before the t-cats showed up, they were most definitely invading aliens if you think about it. guy just had a really vile way of going about protecting his home.

yeah good o days. i am 20 now . it was used to air here during 1995-1996. and i remember quite well how i increase the speed of my homework and get it done before thunder cats and sometimes i pretended to do that and later paying the price lol.

Anyone notice or know that Mumm-ra's symbol is from the Temple of Set? I loved Thundercats and G.I.Joe.
I was an 80's kid. I point these things out though help expose the New World Order brainwashing and conditioning. G.I.Joe conditioned us about the idea of terrorism,economic crash,ect. Someone here on youtube posted a creepy G.I.Joe short/trailer called Mindbender that deals with is subject. Main stream media is mind control !
