Cuba is a dictatorship - it's regime is state capitalist, it's not socialist from my perspective. In socialism, people control the means of production and the government. In Cuba the elite rule the country. Still, I (the editor of this page) opposes the economic embargo as harmful to the Cuban people.
I heard people talking about Anti-War and Socialism as though those two movements are the same thing. Socialism is the economic state which promotes equal distribution of wealth. No incentives for people to work hard for what they earn. Instead, they can choose to remain stagnant and receive the same benefits as those who create the wealth. Quickly, this produces a society of decreasing productivity. Overall wealth goes down, and the quality of services goes down. But hey, we'll all be equal!
Come to this conference. Not only are there fantastic programs (presentations with discussion) but anyone with questions about socialism will get their questions answered. This is my fourth conference; each of the last 3 was better than the last. Bigger, more fun (if that's possible) and full of debate and discussion. It's a great place to meet others who want to create a better world.
is this state socialism? get it straight. workers got screwed over when they abandoned their unions and entrusted the power to regulate wages, etc. to state and federal governments. transferring sovereignty from the people to bureaucracies is not the answer. and the only revolution that results is a bloody and oppressive one.
Socialism may be used loosely sometimes, as all words are at times. I take it to mean workers rule of the means of production and distribution as the only tool leading towards communism. International Socialism leads to Communism: Jobs for all, healthcare as a birth right, education as a right of passage, freedom! Workers Unite, not only for the US out of Iraq now, but for workers rule!
I guess you guys have really a hard job in the US. However it is an important one!

I do not support Trotskyism, but I commend anyone talking about the importance of collectivism, solidarity, and social progress.

I like Trotsky. May I ask, why no support for Trotskyism?
