Seriously, unless I try this tactic, I could play 'fair' for years and literally never once get a jet kill. Everyone I play against has missiles, flares, and other shit for jets and I'm expected to, what, kill them with my MG?... Terrible game design. I might as well completely forget about jets.

@JohnnyMrC I hope you mean heat seeking missiles lol, they as well as flares, are one of the many unlocks for jets, which are unlocked early but as you've already noticed it is difficult to kill without them. which obviously makes it difficult to unlock, using this strategy or simply getting enough experience in jets to where you can get kills with just your MG is the way to go =)

@JOHHILOR - its not all that hard to shake missiles without flares. flares are nice tho as you dont have to evade. but if youre getting locked on first try to elevate and boost away, if it stops its likely aa, a douche on the ground or a heli. those you can usually just outrun the lock or missile range. if you can time a loop or sharp turn right it will miss. be happy, when i started at launch jets took much less damage before on fire/disabled. now u can usually take the first strike

@JOHHILOR - with that said if you keep getting locked all day, your not going to be able to do a damn thing offensively unless some idiot flies right in your view. please just dont do this underhanded tip, you will get flares pretty fast because there are plenty of horrible pilots for you to shoot down. unfortunately for you the bad ones are the missile spammers. i hate the a holes with the heli that think their job is spamming missiles at all match.

i think the bf3 jets should have IR flares and heat seekers to start, then you can unlock other stuff

@selesty actually after a while with heat seekers you realize they arent that good .. most people have flares, most have stealth on them, so that makes it hard to be behind them all that time to lock-on, even then they go for the flares. Then you have a very little chance of getting lock-on again and shooting them before he reloads the flares. Use the MG, it's the best on taking down jets, when you're behind with heatseekers they can hear you lock-on, with mg they wont hear you coming..

@smileyrulesbadly I was like you, 3 days ago, just got BF3 and started playing with the jet. All you want is the heat seekers right? They aren't actually that good. It takes a long time to lock-on to the target and even then most people have flares so it's useless. All that time you have to be behind the other jet so it could lock-on. Well, today I have all upgrades, and I use the usual mg for killing them. When you start turning with a player, doing circles to get pehind each

@smileyrulesbadly eachother, then all you have to do is press L2, LOOK at the jet, when it cuts into the corner, you'll know. always hold down R2, when you start doing circles then press L2 and wait for it to cut, then press afterburner for a second and repeat. Basically, the best weapon is MG for air combat. when in your point of view the target is flying up - shoot a little bit at where he is going, not straight at him. it was my biggest problem when I was like you.

@Chipi1s Once you unlock the Heat Seeking missiles you can switch weapons to the missiles which will begin to lock on if there is an enemy in the jet, allowing you to know when to fire, if you use this strategy to unlock the missiles you just have to watch and listen closely to when the engine starts up.
