  • now i know the secret of defense.

  • thumbs up if at 2:30 u notice the man in the orange running by

  • I think what he means is that as a defender, you rotate around the basket like a fan opens... as if you move parallel to the three point line, back and forth, but you always have the basket in the middle of your back and if a string is atttached to you and the basket, then it rotates in the shape of a fan...

  • "If you watch, look how small i am, look how big i am." WTF?!

  • Isn't Fan him out of the middle, chase to the mid point and no middle all the same premise? And no middle was originally 2. And then it's 3. in the recap. WTF??

  • Do u block him out after he takes the shot or before? Sorry I'm a begginer

  • @TheJonathan007ish after he takes the shot you block him. That'd be funny to see somebody block him out before.

  • The guy running in the background @ 2:31 is hilarious!!!

  • 2:30

  • 2:32

  • @JuniourD lmao!

  • hey thanks, that thing never foul jump shooter and after that block him is great for me. THANKS !

  • Uhhhh....what is fanning?

  • No.3 is always no.1 in any commentator's commentary.

  • This is the BEST video by far for defence.

  • what does he mean by fan?

  • @lemeilleur92 he wants u 2 angle your body snd force him to one side or the other.

  • i like this guy.

  • people say who looks up fundamental videos are P*ssys, there wrong i improved A LOT from this video

  • wtf?! do you come to see this video just to criticise him?

he was right in everithing that he said and i bet that in the past when he played basket he was a great defender

  • Did anyone else notice that there were really only 4?

  • Can someone send this video to the Knicks?

  • Stinky old man

  • fanning out means fanning out to shooters, on my fast breaks or secondary break situations we're taught to protect the lane first then "fan" out to our man...that is what the term fan means to me @UCIBrianBui

  • nice rules

  • Hubie brown is the worst color commentator for the NBA

  • Fanning means to push the player outside of the paint. If he gets into the paint he has a lot of options. He can post up, drive, draw another defensive player on him. If you cut him into the base line he has to get pass you with little room, shoot, or pass.

  • what does fan mean? can someone explain please

  • ok so we are fanning number two, is that like when the shit hits the fan?

  • Think about it. You can't win at any level...UNLESS you can rebound!

  • whats fan?

  • @Ericman2043 move or spread in multiple directions from one point

  • i love this guy, so intense

  • WOW!!! Hubie sounds really pissed!!!

  • wtf does fan mean

  • I liked this. Especially the middle comment. Wink

  • they can easily cross you over when you play them to the baseline

  • in his... middle lol

  • thanks coach

  • Why is he shouting!! Why am I shouting!!

  • Look how BIG I AM. BLOW!!!!! hahahaha

  • Nice vid..and good advice for anyone who plays or coaches bball..Hubie is the man!

  • i hate hubie brown. like doug collins a loser!!! know it alls with their bounty of information. and i cant wacth a telecast.

ive never seen anyone compliment officials in the NBA like this clown. never says its a terrible call. and every player to him is fantastic.

    where is bill walton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????

  • Hey Erbs, sure this bloke is good but where is your video!

  • video is lame!!!

  • love this video. no defense is perfect - i've yet to see a shutout in basketball. a good defense limits options and is not predictable. if you continuously play tight man, expect to get picked all night long and backdoored. a good defense should keep an offense guessing.

especially love the part on boxing out. no one does that and it drives me insane.

  • 1:35 i love how he just blew my mans mouth out

  • No...the reason the lakers get "killed," which im not even sure is true or not, is because they force baseline but give the baseline up...you are supposed to cut off the baseline...much more havoc may be wrecked if you give up the middle...because even if help shows, there is another man open...yes, the other man may recover in time...but in college/nba bball an open shot is supposed to be a make >50% of the time

  • Poor kid :(

  • DAM THE COACH IS GOOOD I LEARNED SOMETHING

  • what does fan mean?

  • @WillMillion15 it means that you have to direct your oponnent to the basline and you have to be turned on his weaker arms so he cant penetrate you or shot over or pass on that side...

  • Damn! it'slike really gettin coached by sir Hubie! lol

  • i love this guy

  • is he yelling at us?

  • @Dam1000Dam1000 hahaha i think so

  • @Dam1000Dam1000 I think so man! shit feels so interactive and real mayne!

  • LMAOOO Funny Coach

    Nicee Drill Tho

  • 2:33 looked kinda dirty

  • I'm pretty sure some dumb kid on here will just say: "uhhh..shouldn't we just zone 'em?", as if that's a great defensive strategy that consistently used LOL!!

These kids today are so damn dumb..

  • i should use number 3 more often. i always play my man face to face

  • 02:33 He was about to poke his dick. LoLoL

  • what does "fan" mean?

  • @cabgt Constantly spreading out ...

  • YOU MUST BLOCK OUT if you don't I will call you to the side and stick my foot up your ass

  • these tips mostly applies to organize basketball and good fundamental players.

If Im playing someone who I KNOW is shitty with his left hand..I aint forcing him to go baseline where he can beat me with his right. Im gonna give him a hard time by allowing him to go left.

  • @ShaolinSurfer777

sht i agree force them to their off hand

  • I'd fuck up his defense

  • YES DRILL SARGENT!!!

  • "Look how small I am.....Now look how big I am"

  • Assistam e compre o dvd basquete ensinamentos basico e avançado, é bem barato e é muito bom.

  • what does he mean by fanning?

  • Hands and arms out and and fingers spread.

  • @DAFreestylePostKing thank you

  • "You MUST block out. IF you do not.....we will call you to the side.....and we'll ask you if you are sick.....or if you are injured." LMAO

"Look how small I am! .........Now look how big I am!!" *pees his pants*

Seriously though, think how much better today's NBA would be if they actually studied these fundamentals. I love Hubie's intensity. Could probably learn more in a day listening to him than many players learn their entire careers.

  • @Intramorph YOu must block out. Itf you do NOT ... I will find you !!!!!!!!!!!

  • A majority of NBA'ers these days should take a look at this video

  • excellent

  • 3:28 - 3:34 lol

  • @lilHippo

"Look how small I am.....Now look how big I am"

  • @AceofDlamonds he looks like a stand in for a ompalumpa

  • i like the way he quote " defense is aggressiveness"

  • damn this coach is pretty annoying but very good advice

  • why the fuck is he yelling?

  • because he's angry i guess..

  • why is he yelling?

  • we all know not to fuckin faul someone

  • well that's not totally true because if he's a good inside player like Dwight or Shaq. Foul is better than let them have easy point

  • yeha some people get to aggressive

  • Nah sometimes its good to "faul" someone, for example if they are doing a lay up or somin

  • Did you even watch the video? He said "never foul a jump shooter".

  • Yes and i said sometimes foul people on the layup. A layup isn't a jump shot. The reason he said "never foul a jump shooter" instead of just never foul is that sometimes its tactical to foul someone.

  • if he's our coach we'll be like detroit "the bad boys" pistons .. thats a good thing

  • Fan means ?? Cant Understand it ...

  • fan means open up your hands and legs...

  • THIS GUY SCARES ME =( .....LOL JK

  • look how small i am,.... no look how BIG I AM!!! LMAO

  • @andyorz lmao

  • @andyorz thats like getting a boner

  • I would love to play for this guy!!!

  • me 2

  • Great knowledge and a teacher of the game. tnx coach hubiebrown

  • Hubie Brown and Larry Brown are the best at coaching young players and teaching them how to really play.

  • larry brown only foucoused on defense he was a good coach though but he really only cared about defense

  • "he was a good coach".Larry Brown is a great coach and is the only coach in history to win an NCAA championship and NBA championship. He was enshrined in the Basketball HOF in 2002.

  • yep thats why AI had like 9 steals in the finals against LA

  • hubie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if you do not fan out.. we will call you to the side we will ask you if you're sick or injured.

    LOL

  • I'm glad that the Lakers have Pau but it would've been interesting to see what he would've done with that Memphis team if he were 20 years younger. That team was tough!!!

  • I would train 8 hours a day if I had the chance to, but there are no coahes out there who would bother to train with me for that long

  • the best coaches are ourselves

  • ilike thi

  • its funny when he goes, "shoot it" and hits the guy in the head lol

  • hahaha

  • Man, he's good.

  • Fortunatly he is not may dad, otherwise i will pee on my pant everyday

  • is he a jew

  • this is how u win games

  • he looks like pinhead

  • i feel like craping in my pants because of his scaryiness

  • he is good

  • i would listen to hubie brown he is a great coach these make sense

  • hes scary

  • why wouldn't you force your player towards the help instead of trying to guard a good player and he takes you baseline and someone comes to help and their man gets a wide open shot!

  • because u are not supposed 2 give up the baseline...u force ur man 2 the baseline then cut it off...when a player gets 2 the middle of the floor u are forcing help

  • @nkredible2009 more times than not forcing a player to the baseline is going to be a disaster. just watch the lakers (who get killed when they force players to the baseline) and the celtics (who play guys straight up).

  • @nkredible2009 Right limit their options by forcing them away from the middle right?

  • ths is not right info

  • never in your life play that way because you will get killed by hard backscreens

  • tmack...denying is when you're defending one pass from the ball.

  • Is it wrong to box out in the paint with your fore arms up like that?

  • jee not fouling a junpshooter, I NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT!

  • why did you watch the video if u know so much more than this guy, personally im watchin it cus reviewing fundamentals helps me focus on what im doing, but ur jus bein a smartass to sum guy tryin to help u

  • This man gave me inspiration.

  • HAhaha I feel the same

  • Hubie Brown is a dinosaur and he's incorrect on some pointers here. It's okay to force a player to the middle if the player cannot dribble with both hands and his left hand is weak. You take away his strong side which is the right side and force him toward the middle. Hubie says a player will always break you down going up the middle. That's not true. If he's not good with the left hand, half the battle is won. You must always evaluate your your opponents skills & then decide the plan of attack

  • wrong,

by going to the middle, the offender have the option to dribble or pass the ball to 2 sides.

By forcing him to the sides, you take away 1 side off him. Hence the less option the offender have, the easier the defender to take the ball out of his hand.

  • It's ok for the offender to pass the ball or dribble. That means he did not score. Your ultimate job as a defender is not to let your man score. If you let the offender have the right side, you will get beat when he turns the corner on you and lead to an easy lay up or pull up shot. You take away his strong hand/side thus forcing him to is weak side. The days of just having a blanket rule of forcing your opponent to his right without evaluating his skills are over. Hubie & his info is outdated

  • the ultimate job of the team is to not let the other team score. You don't just stop your man. By letting your man get into the middle it gives the offense more options, and a higher % chance of scoring.

  • He said the "Mid-point" not middle you douche bag

  • ur right, also, u wanna force the player towards the help and sometimes the help will be coming from the middle in certain situations so its the help defender has to let the man guarding the ball know. at the same time, if the player is strong with both hands then u wud want to force him to the sideline instead of the middle. as an offensive player if u can go left and right equally good, then u wud want to get to the middle where its easier to score and its easier to dish it to any1

  • thanks for the pointers coach!

  • 3. is a no brainer

  • u need to watch the baseline though cant go baseline

  • wad's fan?

  • damn this guys team must be hard ass.

  • "and we fan...and we challenge the uurrahh gaaahhh *heart attack* arrghhhhh *yell* uhhh ahhhh *gets back on his feet* and be block out!"

  • he only listed four, and no middle was number 2. then at the end, no middle was no. 3, and he added chase everyone to the midpoint. haha.

    great video though.

  • this clip was slick..amazing!!! thanks alot coach!!!

  • Look how small i am, now look how tall i am!

  • niiiiiice, holy shit this guy is so fucking agressive >.> but smart ^^

  • what does fan mean?

  • i think but im not sure but i think he means denying the ball when ur defending off the ball

  • fan = defensively direct everything to the outside

funnel = direct to the middle

  • what does fan mean?

  • NO BODY KNOWS GOSH

  • wut if he passes>?

  • If he passes pressure him so he cant get the ball :D

  • wow thanks

i always just challenge the shot and leave now i know i have to block out after he shots lol

  • Thanks A Lot CoachPat30 ;)

    These are good advices !!

    PEACE

  • Hubie Brown is great.

3:30 "Look how small I am, now look how big I am."

4:20 "You must block the man out. If you do not, we will call you to the side, and we'll ask you if you are sick or if you are injured. And if you're neither or, we'll give you two minutes, because the next guy that doesn't block out his man, we're substituting for you."

  • I swear to god this is true:

Hubie Brown once reffed Rick Barry's varsity games in Winfield, NJ. One game, Brown made a bad call, and my father said, "God damn you, Hubie!", and he got thrown out the game. Look at Hubie now...

  • great tips

  • wow i love hubie brown insane video thanks

  • wth does "fan" mean? lol

  • I was totaly thinking the same thing

  • but i was hoping that someone would explain it to me lol... that would be very helpful

  • kinda like defensive stance?? like arms out or watever

  • I believe fan is having high active hands, as if you are fanning the dribbler.

Although in this video Hubie seems to be fanning the man out of the middle, and trying to get the ball from the wing to the corner.

  • fanning refers to the defensive positioning, you're splayed out like a fan forcing the offensive players to the mid point and denying him the centre of the court... basically... the first 3 poitns are all same

  • yeaaa good defense

  • Are you sick or injured? Where is your defense? I like that.

  • This is the defense technique I use for soccer rule 1 no one is allowed in the middle because they can score an easy goal.

  • thanks for the clip! theres some golden advice there

  • It is very good basketball tip to me. Thanks a lot.
