Great stuff Colin , thanks, I overheard Jim Rempe talking about this 40 years ago but never could get anyone to explain it to me. sure would have done away with a lot of guessing over the years.
in 28 minutes you hit the ball from 1 feet away:) i think any kind of offline cueing works for that type of shot. increase the distance. say the full lenght of the small table and see what happens :) this tutorial is not by the book. dont really know in which book you found this :)

True, it would be better to show more distance shots. Trust me it does work with them, but obviously as distance increases, accuracy decreases. Search for my video "24 Stroke Shots" to see some harder shots using this BHE system.
The thing is if you're decent and have good cue ball control, you should be abel to minimize your long distance shots so they won't factor in as much anyway...
it's always important to have a good stroke, no matter how good you think your cue ball control is. and having a good stroke is the way to get good cue ball control in the first place.
Yes, I prefer to compensate by aiming slightly left or right of the target. However, in real play we sometimes need to use a longer or shorter bridge, so it is good to practice adjusting bridge length sometimes.
BTW. How do you think about the difference between follow and draw shot with inside-english? I think there is more deflection in draw shot with sidespin. So I think process of BHE should be change. It's correct way make bridge(distance between pivot point to cue ball) shorter on draw shot with inside-english?
Thanks doublesixnine2000. According to the formulas that predict throw, topspin and draw are identical. In regards to squirt, slow draw will swerve more, reducing squirt. You might find that what you're seeing on draw shots is a perception / alignment problem, or that draw shots tend to be hit harder (hence more squirt and less throw) than most topspin shots.
Americans called it inside out and outside in I believe. I heard about this 40 years ago but I never heard of moving the bridge to control the deflection....great stuff thanks
I've never seen any reference to Back Hand English in any snooker book. I grew up playing and studying snooker. Snooker players pot well, but they tend to know little about the physics of the game.
Great video. Thanks for posting. You are a very good speaker as you make things nice and clear. I look forward to more of your videos. Do you have any advice on aiming cut shots? When it comes to cutting shots in with precision I just don't have it.
This is a must if your playing 8 ball !!! Thanks for the video.

is it not simpler to learn to compensate for aiming instead of lengthening or shortening the bridge distance?

I've noticed the same thing and hence shorten my bridge, or make aiming allowance when using BHE with draw.

On a side note, how in the fark did you fill up 28 minutes with this bunk?
A well done demonstration of reverse english should not take over 2 minutes.
/overly critical arsehole
berylman 4 years ago
It's not about reverse english. It is about Back Hand English which is an aiming adjustment method.
You'd know that if you paid attention ;)

Good stuff! Playing artistic pool, a lot of shots require a lot of english, and I've pretty much exclusively used BHE. --http://www.trickshottim.com
