It is not pro-war, as far as I can see. It is mostly about the idealism of many who signed up for the International Brigades. They believed in the cause and that they could fight (first few lines), but they were scared of dying (gravity keeps my head down lines) and many hated violence (Holes in your head today, but I'm a pacifist).
