@Sparta09876 Accuracy is a relative thing. I like more accuracy than what the PS-90 gives, so to me... No, it's not accurate. To others, yes, it's accurate. All about your expectations.
What would you recommend for home defense, a plain shotgun, a Benelli M4 or the PS90? I love the PS90 but I think that for a middle of the night burglary it would be easier to hit with a plain shotgun or the M4. What do you think?
@colturn12 I've owned a PS90 and they are just as reliable as an AK47 and are even more simple. Have you ever taken apart an AR15? they have a ridiculous amount of parts. Small springs, extractors, pins a complicated Bolt Carrier Assembly... you name it. A PS90 has 4 parts lol. Barrel assembly, Bolt carrier group, Trigger Assembly and the lower.... I mean that's less parts than an AK.
Also I have scoured forums far and wide on this gun and in 2 decades of service this gun hasn't jamed
I know what you mean. I had a Mini-14 Ranch rifle. Let me tell you, the mechanics and small parts of this thing were enough to make a guys head spin! I needed 3 different sizes of allen wrenches and a flathead screw driver just to feild strip it. First you had to pry off the trigger guard, and pull the entire trigger assembly out. The recoil spring was encased inside another larger spring, and if it wasn't put inside *perfectly* the bolt would lock shut and you'd have to take it back apart.
Then I needed the allen wrenches to take the barrel off the stock so I could clean it properly. Getting the bolt out of the bolt carrier was a nighmare. Then I had this little spring that was about 1/2 inch long by no more than an 1/8 inch wide. The little fucker kept popping out of place, and I had to hold it down while trying to snap a metal cover over it. Took me about a 1/2 hour to do. I'd never own an AR-15/Mini-14 ever again.
I'll stick with the AK-47 or if I get more money, a PS90.
Just checked a popular site and ammo is very legal and .42-.45 cents per round. Not cheap but when you compare it to other 'name brand' large caliber pistol rounds (.45acp) it isnt insane. By comparison the cheap surplus steel cased .223 can be had for 20-25cents a round. If I could shoot one first I might consider one of these...
@PricklyPete10 Yeah, ammo is reasonable. It's about the same as .223 FMJ loads, and with 5.7 your getting Hornady V-Max bullets, a premium ballistic tipped boat tail bullets. And now you can get a Savage Model 25 in this round, which would make it a great small came hunting round like the .22 Hornet was.
I'd argue on a point of ergonomics. Most of the people I have encountered and shown my PS-90 to, their first instinct is to grab the carbine FORWARD of the front grip and make contact w/ the barrel w/ a bare hand. From personal experience-it doesn't take long for the barrel to get toasty.
If one buys this carbine, I advise one to be educated on proper stance/hold of the weapon.
It's still a hoot-one just needs to be educated in it's operation/handling.
NEVER OIL THE TRIGGER GROUP ON PS90 itcause tolerances to be to tight and it will malfunction if you had the manual with the gun you would know that...only put a drop on either spring the gun was made to be ran dry all moving parts are free-floating and will not wear on any of the composite parts
Out of curiosity... I know the regular FN P90 is fully automatic... But I read that the PS90 is semi-automatic (single shot) and I was wondering if that was true. Could someone please clarify?
isnt the ammo for this gun like super expensive!! or like illegal almost....i heard is hard to get????? that is why ill stick with a bushmaster ACR or fs2000 wich carry a .223 remington rounds and really really available and cheap!
@guycanivet It's pretty expensive... and the armor piercing rounds for 5.7 are illegal for civilian use I believe... and It's not all that hard to obtain you can get it online, I think it's only made by one brand
It's shocking how that weapon has the look and feel of an airsoft gun! The first time I held one it was hard to believe I was holding a real gun. It's an amazing design, and now I can see how easy the field stripping is. Thanks!
I actualy never seen this weapon field stripped before. That is simple and easy. I was never a fan, but with field stripping that well designed, I may have to add it to my list.
I thought about purchasing this gun for my first firearm but decided against it since i will be buying for home defense and need something with a little more kick on the receiving end....wish it cam in .40 cal..... so im going for a walther P99, but might get this one for hunting or target shooting.
@CWScott24 5.7x28 is pretty close to 5.56, and they are both tumbling rounds, and will both do a lot of damage. While a .40 may have more stopping power, emphasis on may depending on the round used, you have 50 5.7's to shoot, and because the 5.7x28 has little recoil you can be deadly accurate and absolutely massacre something with it. If you want a weapon strictly for home defense then nothing beats a shotgun, and nothing scares a criminal more than hearing you cycle a round into the chamber.
Well, I prev ran the FN Forum - and all of Fn's info I have seen is to NOT oil the trigger pack. Water should be used to rinse it off if it gets dirty, and let it dry before reassembly. Some people have put graphite on the trigger bar and trigger pack - but that's not something I care to do. But, it seems to have no negative effect.
@mistershipwreck I've heard that as well, and I think the difference is a caution against gun products that contain solvents. I've seen some FN internals turn to goo because of solvents on the plastic. Hence the word of caution. Other oils, that are just a Lubricant, contain no solvents... Such as Slipstream... and these have proven to reduce wear. Because plastic, while having some lubricity, still galls and wears. Hence the desire to oil it... Slipstream is perfect for this.
@MadOgre I'm not a pro shooter but anytime you have metal on metal, or certain composies, you oil it. Unless the oil can penitrate an action, ie the bolt in this case, it can be harmful. Again I dont own this gun, nor have I tourture tested it but thats the standard.
Out of non subject related curiosity have you ever heard of the "Big Horn Armory Model 89"? As soon as I saw it on a page of "Guns&Ammo" I fell in love with it; when I hit the right age it might be my first rifle, I wanted to get the rifle version so I can mod it to be similar to Mare's Leg or Terminator 2's shotgun. Is there any laws about doing such an act?
This is one of the most fun guns I've shot. It's accurate, ergonomic, reliable, has zero recoil, and the time to acquire your target is incredibly fast. One of the BEST designs I've ever seen for an ambidextrous, easy to use assault weapon. However, it has all the romantic or technical appeal of a glock (plastic, yay), and because it's a proprietary round it's incredibly expensive to shoot.
My uncle has a level action under his bed 30-30, but I think a 12 gauge winchester would do just fine for home defence. What else would you use weapons for other then target or home defense?
@pudanielson1 The PS-90 is good because its extremely accurate, the bullets have been known to bust through level-III vests (according to wiki), no recoil, light, high mag capacity. Great gun for home defense.
@ihatenjoi It's ok for home defense, but I'd rather have a shotgun, revolver, or 45 with a picatinny light underneath. You don't want to keep that thing loaded or you'll ruin the magazine. Also, the bullets civilians can get won't go through body armor.
@hanserclimbs Well there is one other manufacturer of ammo that will penetrate the vests. I just personally like it, since I can naturally shoot lefty or righty, I find it a good gun. Also I prefer any bullpup style rifle to any other gun.
@hanserclimbs I fired into the front of a honda Civic with engine and had rounds poping out the back. Nearly undeformed rounds with enough velocity that they where punching through the rear tail lights with nearly perfect round holes...
that means after going though the radiator, block, firewall, seats, and tail lights the round wasnt deformed enough to leave a screwed up hole. and it was still traveling fast enough to not shatter the plastic housing.
@ihatenjoi Go buy some 5.7 at Cabelas or your nearest ammo store and shoot at Five-Seven or a PS90 with some Type 1 Armor it doesn't go through more like impact since it fragments....
@pudanielson1 Well, the PS90 is pretty well suited to urban close quarters combat by swat or other elite police/military units. That's what it's designed for.
@Recon911PDW You are young and play a lot of video games... so I shall forgive such blaspheme. The reality is that the PS90 makes a pretty good defense weapon - that's true. But it doesn't hold a candle to a simple, humble, and shockingly effective shotgun.
@MadOgre Either way, Im going to purcahse one of the PS90's once I turn 21 because its a cool gun. Anyway I have one question, I went to a gun show not that long ago and saw a dealer selling a black colored PS90 with a short barrel conversion. Does the Short barrel conversion of the PS90 effect anything, or is is best to just purchase a non customized PS90 that is the long barrel version?
@Recon911PDW The PS90 is a Rifle - and as such, you can buy one at 18 Years of Age. The short barreled version falls under the Short Barreled Rifle laws... which makes it a Class III weapon and life gets more complicated getting one. Plus the 200 Dollar Tax Stamp.
@g3tr00t3d Bulky? Maybe an 887 Tactical (video coming up of my opinion on that one) but an 870 is slim. The Bullpups I've seen are much bulkier, shorter, but fat and squat and much more awkward to operate, with poor sighting. An 870 or 930SPX is much faster and easier to run and just flat out more versatile.
Owned a TM p90 Airsoft version almost exact in design full scale. i Own an REAL STEAL AK n now i want a PS90. i heard that the mags are 10 rounds n 30 rounds but i do know that make a 50round mag but would you happen to know if a 50 round is legal in California? doubt it but i thought i'd ask
Cont. - Great for recoil-adverse shooter b/c even if the round isn't all it could be, it beats a .22 LR. I know women who would be quite comfortable and capable with a handy carbine like this who wouldn't use a centerfire pistol or shotgun in a million years.
(Obviously, other women are comfortable running an AK and a .40 Glock; I'm not generalizing, just saying some folks really hate blast/recoil.)
Check out the Kel-tec RFB. It has an 18 inch barrel and is actually shorter than the ps90 with a 16 inch barrel. The RFB shoots 7.62 nato ammo as well. Pretty wicked combo if you ask me. Very compact with a powerful cartridge.
I have a fax machine that disassembles the same exact way... J/K ... Actually I inspected one of these today at the local gun show. Usual FN quality piece but the standard iron sights were just terrible, the sight picture was way, way too small for a close range weapon. Optics are a must for this lil blaster...
I own both the pistol and carbine. Both are simple to maintain, accurate, and just plain fun. I have the pistol in my nightstand with an m6 laser/light.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Nice little gun but too pricey and in semi auto...it's worthless. For that price I rather buy a benelli m4 and spend the rest on shells and a +2 extension.
@lynette1953 "stand down range and tell me its worthless. most fighting isnt spray and pray fullauto, go back to the games"
50 round mags, great for burst fire. when you are running or moving, burst fire has a better chance then semi. 5.7x28 is great for controlled select fire. also, shooting fleeing targets is alot easier with select fire.
uhh its not worthless...... ive shot one and its VERY accurate and i was using the sights that came in the original version (almost like a red dot but still somehow not a red dot since it doesnt light up..... its hard to explain..)
semi auto is a good thing, the military doesnt even use their fully automatic functions. and $1,699.00 isnt much more than what you'll be paying for a benelli M4.
The 5.7x28 is a pretty devastating little round. The secret service carry the p90, because the bullet drops all the energy in very little depth and reduces the chances of over penetration but causing huge amounts of damage.
Everyone will love this little rig. People these days are so excited about 8 inch barreled SBR carbines and this is better with longer barrel. I like the 20" and 14.5" best.
I have been drooling over this thing since day 1 of it hitting shelves...but jeeze I can't make myself ( hint...my wife ) pay $1600 for it.....I will continue to drool. Cool vid big guy, thanks for the take down lesson.
At least most places that carried it didn't run out/low during the "Great Ammo Panic" earlier this year. While everyone was paying extortionate amounts for what 5.56, .45, etc, that came in, I was (and still are) paying only $22.50 after tax.
@chulski2 I think it's a pretty PDW, if only we could get the SMG version, I'm 17 right now, so I'm gonna save up enough money to get one of these hopefully in a couple years

In commie-fornia you cannot have a magazine that holds more that 10 rounds. You also have to have a key for the magazine release. Just read up on it.

I want one so bad, even though I know the round is lacking.
By all accounts the PS90 is tough, accurate, easy to shoot well, and crazy reliable; goes forever w/out cleaning.
Plus as you've shown the field strip procedure is cake. What engineering.
And 50 round mags!
I don't know, maybe we'll be invaded by vicious mutant raccoons. I'm working on a rationalization...
(Actually, there is one. This would be a great defensive choice for a petite shooter who hates recoil. Wife/GF gun.)
classof77 1 year ago

Great video, thanks for sharing

I hope when I join the Belgian army I will learn how to shoot with one of these.

awesome/...

Would it be possible for it to a 22lr?
bobbycombo 2 years ago
How much is the ammo? Looks like it'd be fun to shoot. :)
ComeAndSeevX 2 years ago
would love one but too damn much
lostboys111 2 years ago
Even with the 16" barrel its still more compact than an AR. But then again, a MSAR STG-556 in 5.56mm will blow the PS90 away
rllang01 2 years ago
@rllang01

Optics are a must for this lil blaster...
rllang01 2 years ago
my question is this, if you shoot it upside down where do the rounds eject from?
gixxeroutlaw 2 years ago
Same place... the brass is thrown out hard enough to clear the weapon.
MadOgre 2 years ago
Cool gun, but freakin' ugly with the "legal" barrel :( Needs to come with a hacksaw to correct the issue.
Riflemanm16a2 2 years ago
Yeah agreed, i think the legal barrel pretty much ruins any reason to own the gun.

sweet!!! I have one.... oh wait its only an airsoft model -_-

Looks nice light and compact., I'm thinking of buying this or a GSG 5 pistol.
sheepcampwarrior 2 years ago
looks plastic....if youre spending 1500 on a gun buy something better like an ar 15 platform
pnutu812 2 years ago
The P90/PS90 doesn't jam at the drop of a hat because of a horribly flawed gas system.

where is this shop? what state?
MrMuscleMacho 2 years ago
I own both the pistol and carbine. Both are simple to maintain, accurate, and just plain fun. I have the pistol in my nightstand with an m6 laser/light.

Nice little gun but too pricey and in semi auto...it's worthless. For that price I rather buy a benelli m4 and spend the rest on shells and a +2 extension.
m3delight 2 years ago
stand down range and tell me its worthless. most fighting isnt spray and pray fullauto, go back to the games :)

50 round mags, great for burst fire. when you are running or moving, burst fire has a better chance then semi. 5.7x28 is great for controlled select fire. also, shooting fleeing targets is alot easier with select fire.
g3tr00t3d 1 year ago
uhh its not worthless...... ive shot one and its VERY accurate and i was using the sights that came in the original version (almost like a red dot but still somehow not a red dot since it doesnt light up..... its hard to explain..)
Guyya93 2 years ago 3
semi auto is a good thing, the military doesnt even use their fully automatic functions. and $1,699.00 isnt much more than what you'll be paying for a benelli M4.
1cme1 2 years ago
doesnt USUALLY use full auto, unless they need it

I was looking at one of these and i didn't expect them to be as heavy as they are. but it does feel like a very sold gun.

it looks to easy to take down that is its flaw

the best gun ever and the 5.7 im happy i got-em both..
keanna518 2 years ago
if only they could do this in a 5.56 nato the gun would only be about 2 inches or so wider and it would work awsome.
dp665 2 years ago
well, the FS2000 is basically that.. an FN bullpup in 5.56... they are nice guns.
PPPatrickWWW 2 years ago
The 5.7x28 is a pretty devastating little round. The secret service carry the p90, because the bullet drops all the energy in very little depth and reduces the chances of over penetration but causing huge amounts of damage.
Striwa88 2 years ago
cool vid man
one question how much was the gun
weaponman321 2 years ago
Everyone will love this little rig. People these days are so excited about 8 inch barreled SBR carbines and this is better with longer barrel. I like the 20" and 14.5" best.
ferret6677 2 years ago
I have been drooling over this thing since day 1 of it hitting shelves...but jeeze I can't make myself ( hint...my wife ) pay $1600 for it.....I will continue to drool. Cool vid big guy, thanks for the take down lesson.

They look sweet with the barrel shrouds/fake cans
NIKON777 2 years ago
It is even better with a real can!
4traxx 2 years ago 2
I was just going to say that!
MadOgre 2 years ago
Pretty sweet. FN needs to drop the price and they'd sell like cocaine!
NIKON777 2 years ago 23
What they REALLY need, is to make this in 10mm.
MadOgre 2 years ago
@NIKON777 LOL, good analogy!

just not scary/badass enough for me:)
ty for the upload

I really like the magazine design. I think it's ingenious.
MortalWombat01 2 years ago 2
True, it is. Brilliant. But the retarded little round is just not enough for me.
MadOgre 2 years ago
At least most places that carried it didn't run out/low during the "Great Ammo Panic" earlier this year. While everyone was paying extortionate amounts for what 5.56, .45, etc, that came in, I was (and still are) paying only $22.50 after tax.
chulski2 2 years ago
True, it's the same price as .223 stuff... and with a ballistic tip instead of FMJ. It's not a cost thing...
I just want MORE POWER. It's a horse power thing.
MadOgre 2 years ago
I like it except the planet of the ape thumb hole stock.
ferret6677 2 years ago
Have you ever shouldered one? They are a LOT more comfortable than they look. But yeah-it's ugly.
chulski2 2 years ago
There is video out there of a version of this that is actually in 12 gauge. It's even uglier, but twice as cool.
MadOgre 2 years ago
@chulski2 I think it's a pretty PDW, if only we could get the SMG version, I'm 17 right now, so I'm gonna save up enough money to get one of these hopefully in a couple years
Meeelan 1 year ago
LOL... it does smack of the POTA Carbine. Good observation and obscure knowledge demonstration...
That's funny. I love it.
