  • It is hard for me to imagine any man that has had more influence in Movie Soundtracks.

  • Outstanding!

  • i love

  • John Barry was, in my humble estimation, the greatest screen composer in the history of cinema. His scores touch me on deep levels and often move me to tears. Just wonderful! I have often dreamed of being an established movie director and having him score one of my films. Alas, that was not to be. However, I still hope to become an established movie director!

  • @9bahai9

so to give him respect, you choose to tell us about you and your unsuccessful desire to be a film producer?

hehehe i'm just teasing :) John Barry made fantastic music

  • Oops!

If you prefer the sound quality more ...

    Really just the best

  • I am not that religous but when a genius as John Barry composers there must be a spiritual gift that allows one individual to express adepth of soul that mooves us all. Richard Burford.

  • I feel fortunate to have those soundtracks in one form or another, i will remain sad in the thought a John Barry new score will never be heard

  • The main man Mr John Barry, he has been the soundtrack to my life for forty plus years. Not a day go`s by without me playing his music.

    Ray Brien.......

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting! :)

  • Bless your soul dear John Barry for all the beauty that it has contributed to our lives ..

    Thikra MONEM

  • cant belive i was born in the same town as him

  • Thumbs up that sound quality is causing stinging feedback!

  • why is the sound so fucking shitty???????????

  • Wish John Barry was alive still to hear my Soundtrack I composed for him. RIP John

  • And at 8:20 is one of the best subtly melancholy romantic pieces ever: 'We Have All The Time In The World', the love theme from OHMSS. Sung for the film score by Louis Armstrong, the last piece he recorded before he died.

  • At 3:05 begins the Tamarind Seed , one of his best, less-mentioned, movie score pieces, along with Game of Death, and the Persuaders theme.

  • It's been said by so many. Thank you John.

  • I understand John was influenced by the music of band leader and composer Stan Kenton...

  • He will be missed

  • The world of music has lost one of it's very best. John Barry was 1 of a kind.

    Deep sorrow fills my soul.

    Thank you for this tribute.

  • He´ll live forever through his beautiful music.

  • So beautiful..there are so many scores worthy of attention in his collection.

Presently I am in love with "The Tamarind Seed" ,

    "Frances"

    "The Deep"

    "Masquerade"

but any score by the wonderful Mr. Barry will make you feel better about life. To say he will be missed is putting it mildly.....God Bless him.

  • i now truly hate modern music after hearing this beautiful music, not just bieber, what about the thousands of talentless bands out there? what about the satanist princess Lady Gaga? black eye peas? urghhh . . .the horror!

  • I went to the royal albert hall twice in the 90's to see the late John Barry. I was blown away by his work.

  • Alguien me puede decir a que película pertenece la melodia que continua a partir del minuto 7:23 ?

    Gracias

  • A wonderful tribute to an amazing man. John Barry added so much to so many films with his beautiful music. He will be greatly missed. Rest in peace John Barry. @}---

  • May he rest in peace - he was truly great

  • RIP John Barry-- A talent and treasure that will be truly missed.

  • I'll never forget Dances with Wolves when John Dunbar and the Sioux low crawl up to a hilltop, and there before them are thousands of buffalo as far as the eye can see. The booming, majestic music at that point was just awe-inspiring, and so incredibly beautiful. John Barry's music has brought me peace during troubled times. May he now find his own peace, and rest well.

  • rip mr Barry...Love from Norway

  • RIP

  • I awoke today, i turned on the radio, Shirley Bassey was singing Goldfinger, great timing i thought, then i just knew, something had happened. Sure enough i learn of the sad passing of a legend, his music i have listened to with great pleasure for so many years. I knew this day would come eventually, i then play his themeology in tribute. John Barry was not only the boss, but a professor in music composition, his movie themes are what makes the cinematic experience a joy and pleasure to be hold.

  • Sad to hear he's gone.

What movie is the music at 1:50 -2:00 from?

  • I'm so upset, Hes my favorite

  • Devastated, I was a really proud Barryist.

RIP, he was a great man and composer

  • John you are the Mozart of our time - I loved all those movies BECAUSE of how your music made me feel. You are the greatest film music composer!! R.I.P.

  • The sound quality on this video does not do the great man any justice.

  • In my opinion,he,along with the great Bernard Hermann, were two of the absolute finest film composers who ever lived. Barry had a superb gift for melody and orchestration.A wonderful composer who will be dearly missed by all.Rest in peace Mr Barry.

  • Simply the best, rest in peace.

  • Where is Walt Disney's "The Black Hole" and "Somewhere in Time"? Two of JB's best works. Very haunting and dramatic music

  • @sadalite Somewhere in time theme start at 6.00...there is no "love theme" in The Black Hole. ;)

  • @sadalite It's criminal that the black hole hasnt been released on CD, if Disney has no interest in putting it out, i hope Nic raine and the prague philharmonic re-recorded it, they did a splendid job with Barry's raise the titanic score a few yrs back.

  • well done tracker1944 teriffic editing of the great john barry compositions

  • ifound john barry music 30 yrs ago its nice to see new people still love his music

he should have been knighted years ago

  • The greatest film composer of the last 50 years.

  • Mr. Barry is a genius...he ranks with Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Saint-Saens, Verdi, Puccini and the other greats....of course, his medium is different but his melodies are just as pure and perfect as any composer who has achieved lasting immortality....thank the gods for Mr. Barry. His music makes great movies even better.

  • As good as any Mozart.

  • And God created John Barry, the man with the Midas touch...

  • The man is a genius thank you for the music John from Nick Gray

  • @brody5000

I know. it's hard to tell sometimes where one score ends and the other begins, because his music flows so naturally and has such a distinctive style.

  • My favorite John Barry tune. I use to play this at night when I was ready to sleep.

  • très beau...

  • um dos melhores compositores de todos os tempos!

  • a master teacher, the best of all diehard fans

  • stupenda musica.

  • Has this genius of a man been knighted yet?

He's from my home town York!

  • Only an OBE so far. I'll tell the Queen personally to check on this. The soon Sir John Barry KBE.

  • Many thanks agnosticcc, I enjoyed your video, by the way!

  • Sorry, I pressed the wrong sign. Should be thumbs up, of course.

  • he should be... what a GREAT composer he was, some of my FAV movies of all time and definitely the musical scores from him as well... SO moving, SO Beautiful... WOW... rip John...

  • don't worry, he's not dead . . .

  • OMG I am SO EMBARRASSED... thanks for "enlightening" me... I "think" I got him mixed up with the director Sydney Pollack, REASON BEING, John Barry's musical scores have been used in Alot of Robert Redford movies, and Redford was "close" to Sydney Pollack the director, to I got them mixed up... am GLAD to KNOW that John is not deceased!!!!

<---- OMG I AM SO SO EMBARRASSED... " my sincere Apologies to all here and to "John" lol... GAWD :0

  • I hope he composes more film scores, he hasn't in a while.

  • Love and respect to the Great man

  • Nothing more lovely than John Barry's music! Tnx for posting :-)

Merci beaucoup Mon Cher Monsieur John ! Vous aimer ....

  • John Barry is the best!

Born Free, Out of africa, Dances with Wolves, Frances, Somewhere in Time, Chaplin, Body Heat. Need I say more?

He is a true classical composer. Lets face it. A modern Puccini.

  • The man is pure genius.

  • As i developed along my spiritual path (FINALLY) my soul led me to his music..Definitely music for the soul...Makes me sleep like a baby..

  • Isn't it odd how so many people become aware of John Barry' music when they have heard the score of 'Somewhere In Time'. I fall into that category and have loved and followed his music ever since. It is invariably good and there is so much of it.

I saw him in concert in Birmingham in 1999 and it was magnificent. Thanks John you have brought some many people joy and lightened so many peoples' lives by the quality of your beautiful music.

  • Like some others, I first became aware of John Barry's work when I watched the movie, Somewhere in Time. I was going through the after effects of a major trauma at the time, one that, like Richard Collier, made me want to just lay down and die. To me this score evokes the sense of losing something so precious

that you don't want to go on. I cry profusely everytime Ilisten to this, my favorite score of Barry's. There isn't any other music that touches me in the way Somewhere in Time does.

  • You missed the best: Body Heat, You only live twice, King Kong, and a few more.

  • Because of John Berry, I know what music is playing in Heaven. His music truly touches my soul each and every time.

  • I first heard of John Barry through the film Somewhere In Time, where the soundtrack in his words, was one of his finest moments as a composer...albeit the most upsetting through personal grief at the time.

I love his music. He is a genius, and his music has always, and continues to, inspire me.

  • Yes...Have always followed what he writes because he never stopped to amaze me!!

  • my god

  • Can someone help me please? What is the soundtrack from 08:19 to 08:52?

  • Comment removed

  • 8.19 to 8.52 is music from an Omar Sharif film directed by Sidney Lumet in 1969 called 'The Appointment'.

  • I've been a fan of John Barry's for years, and didn't even know it. I had no idea that he wrote this wonderful music to all of these movies. Truly a genius. So very beautiful.

  • TIMZP--------I agree about JB and his superior reign over certain emotional territory!I hope your wife understands the depth of emotion within her husband. TIMZP is not alone---John 55 year old in Construction

  • I love John Barry. His music stirs emotions that I dont feel from any other source. I had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts at the Royal Albert Hall about 5-6 years ago. My wife fell asleep but I enjoyed every moment of it and would love to have the experience again

  • You are lucky,This is one of my desires.

  • whats the name of the first song??the first fragment??from 00:01 to 00:55

  • The title is: Love Theme of Dance with Wolves.

  • ...and then someone let Madonna sing a Bond song, WHO was responsible for THAT??? was it actually a song??? its an insult to John Barry who has composed such awesome music!!!!

  • Are you forgetting Live and Let Die? What about Sheena Easton? Or Carly Simon? That's how the Bond theme lost its luster! Madonna is just fine, no John Barry, but a great song writer and singer. I, however, don't need anything but my John Barry and Bernard Herrmann records!

  • As is usual with Britain, the tributes to John

Barry will be gushing when he passes on. Pay tribute to one of Britains finest ever composers now, while he can still receive it,

    give him a Knighthood.

  • Absolutely, I couldn't agree with you more. This useless country would sooner see David Beckham scoop a knighthood than this musical powerhouse.

  • Since I was a teenager in Argentina I have adored his music, now, in my 50's I continue adoring his music and I am proud to have all of his cd's in my collection, BRAVO!!!

  • has this man ever written anything average?WHERE IS HIS BLOODY KNIGHTHOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes indeed! Sir John Barry!

  • The best James Bond music film sound track composer EVER!

His music MAKES the scene work!

  • Hi,

    i am with you:)

His music ads a kind of magic to the Bond movies, so they will be never forgotten.

  • Makes me proud to be British, i would rate this man up there with Mozart and Beethoven. A brilliant, Legendry music composer.

  • i love england and the Bond movies.

    best regards from a greek

  • Beethoven, hearing Barry, certainly would kiss his hands...

  • Yes ... Yes he would!

  • This man is a master of his trade. I a;ways said if I could at a concert of his music I would be a happy man but I was lucky enough to see him conducting in person at Birmingham - it has heaven !!

  • The best composer I ever saw.

  • he is my great uncle

  • well you're just one lucky s.o.b then arent' you?

  • Your great uncle is second to none!

    The best composer period!

  • You have a genius for a Great Uncle!

    Absolute Genius!

  • He and John Williams are my favorite movie music composers. The sound on this video seems to have gotten messed up. Was that something in YouTube's encoding?

Love, Hope, Peace, & Christ Is With Us All,

    Cal-el

  • Have you ever wondered what it would have been if John Barry and John Williams had got together to compose a musical work together?

  • Thank you for the great video

  • A GREAT VIDEO AND TRIBUTE.....Thank you

  • I've liked John Barry for many years. He uses a simple repetitive theme which magically brings out your emotions. His music is recognizable because of his own unique musical stamp using lush strings, saxophone and flute mostly.

  • its french horn not saxophone

  • You can hear the saxophone in some of his music. You can look up John Barry saxophone.

  • ONCE A GREEN HOWARD

    ALWAYS A GREEN HOWARD !!!

Frank Thaxter 1st Bn Regimental Band 1955-1958

  • Trully, he is a great musical composer of our time. he has so many great soundtracks, from King Kong , High road to China , to indecent proposal and so on. It's a pity that I can't get quite a many of his musics. My up most respect to John Barry.

  • Me encanta este lindo tema de jhon barry soy peruano y la averdad aprecio esta clase de musica gracias por Dios ...saludos MAFERSAN...

  • muy bueno barry!! inmenso

  • A briiliant composer!Oscar well deserved! If I can type this without getting my mucking words fuddled!Blame it on the computer!I agree with iowntheclough!

  • his music is very recognizable, hes my favourite composer of all time, his music is so romantic. the world will miss his beautiful scores xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • No question is among the four greats: Williams, Goldsmith, E. Bernstien, and Barry.

And none can write a romantic theme as he can: Somewhere in Time (a tear jerker), OofA, and Dances with Wolves. Also Body Heat was very evocative.

  • You've got to put Morricone in there too mate.

  • Morricone is evocative - espec his GoodBadUgly and the Mission. But I'd have to listen to more of his work to put him into the four I think are the greats.

I might also include Nino Rota (Godfather, Romeo and Juliet) or Max Stiener (Gone with the Wind) or Jaffe (Dr. Zhivago) - but they don't have the corpus of work the four greats do.

    My favorite(s) from each:

Bernstein: To Kill a Mockingbird, Mag. 7

    Goldsmith: Sand Pebbles

    Barry: Somewhere in Time

    Williams: most of em.

  • Listen to Once Upon a Time in the West too as that is great Morricone music as is The Untouchables with Kevin Costner as thats his score too. Nope - you should make top 4 a top 5 list. He is one of the greats.

  • You forgot Bernard Herrmann!

  • He is allso wery cultural. When a movie takes you somewhere on earth, so does John Barry.

When I do oil-paint, I get a lot of inspiration from him.

  • Some of the best films ever made got a big assist from Barry's scores, but few people really notice how much the effect is heightened and who the composer is. He gets props for the Bond films but there's so much more to be grateful for. I hope he gets more recognition some day.

    Best Ever:

    Out of Africa

    Dances With Wolves
