...excuse my ignorance, but under category 'Gee-Whiz-Bang', I notice at 2:04, the tail and wing flap adjust into a final resting place before launch. Is the stick held in a certain position, or does the pilot push an 'Auto-position' switch? Awesome.
@AintLifeGarand The pilot has a selector switch for trim position that he sets up before he taxis to the cat. All the other movement is done by the pilot though.
@justbrendon9 that's not us... they have "AG" not "AD" on the vert. stabs. also the 400 series a/c that's a single seater... what shop you in?? remember... our alphas and charlies are 300 series aside from the 2 acceptance a/c. 400 are bravos and deltas.
Great vid, I was a shooter for the Argos back in 2000, and final checked that same jet many times! Most amazing job I ever had! thank for the great memories!
that they are, i just hope that the F-35 hurry's up and gets past prototype stages cause it is finally in its final step. 1 flight crew from each branch (Navy, Marine, Air Force) have been sent to Pensacola to start training with them
i think theyre gonna start transitioning into the JSF about as early as 2010 and as late as 2012 so we should be seeing them pretty shortly...the JSF will compliment the F-22...and super hornet well...oh in 2010 the USAF might have to adopt the F/A-18 E/F "to avoid a gap in the nations air defences while JSF ramps up"
i didn't know about the F-18 being adopted by the Air Force.. huh that's interesting, wonder if they are doing it because the F-22 is not cost effective and stop production on it. i believe there are 3 active duty squadrons of the F-22
were not selling the design they helped make it since they perfected the VTOL crap and were building it so they automatically get the F-35 and other countries like turkey, canada and other countries(allies of course) will get the JSF because i think they helped fund it since the US is in a bit of a money issue @ the moment
i never said theyre replacing super hornets and yes the JSF is replacing the F/A-18 A/B/C/D models and the hornet is just a strike fighter, the reason the F-35 is called JSF is because many other countries helped fund it and are getting the F-35 and it was a joint project with the US and UK who helped develope it
the C class is a Canadian variation of the U.S. F/A-18 mult-role fighter aircraft, designed for air superiority, bombing runs, reconnaissance, etc... the exact same thing a Joint Strike Fighter does
Mulit-role aircraft and JSF aircraft serve the same purpose, the are pretty much the same thing if you rule out some very minor differences.
Flight Deck is a rush. I went up with our shooter to final check a jet at night it was a rush. I'm actually considering to move to a boat squadron if I can't get to my original unit (I'm a Marine "AM" but for Babies only :D )
winters1234567890 you can't be a shooter unless you go to officers candidate school and become a pilot. If you join the US Navy and want to become a Yellow shirt and Direct aircraft on a fixed wing carrier you must go to A school in lakehurst new jersey (if AB school is still there) or strike to be a ABH (which i did) and prior to that i went to airman apprenticeship program. If you want the flight deck go to V-1 Air or you will be in the hanger with V-3 division. V-1 is whee the action is.
i am an AD(aviation machinist mate petty officer 2nd class) so i am low poeer qualed, final checker as well as PC qualed, have been doing this for 7 years!
Nice...... I was an F/A-18 final checker, an EA-6B Final checker / duct diver and a H-60 CDI. I miss it!!!! Had alot of fun. Wish I took some videos!!!!!!!
You get an EA-6B spooled up and an F/A-18 (in afterburner) next to each other on cats 1 and 2 and you can't even hear the F/A-18 at all. Nothing was louder than an EA-6B at military power.
is that the nimitz?I was on the nimitz 92-94,and i remember the argonaut squadron,I was a blue shirt on the flight deck and loved it.Some people dont believe how close u actually r to a launching jet.wish i could do it again
Ohhh baby sometimes i miss the roar of f18's, I work on helos now and its just not the same

JSF is crap, Hornets for life!
EvanM2007 2 years ago 2
Hornets is the navys main fighter now but soon it will be de-throned by the F-35 and
im sure hornet pilots will envy the Lightning pilots
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
the f-18 will still be in use though, cause the f-35 and f-18 will have different jobs.
kicker2666 2 years ago
the F-35 is replacing Hornets not superhornets A-D models will be replaced
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
ya that is true.. forgot that the super replaced the F-14 and the F-35 will replace the A-D models.. Thanks for reminding/bring that o my attention
kicker2666 2 years ago
no problem.... US carriers were deadly with hornets and tomcats but now with Super Hornets and JSFs our carriers will be twice as deadly

theyre stoping production after 180+ Raptors...and if i heard correctly theres gonna 3000 JSFs between the US and britain
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
we are selling the design to Britain? wow didn't know that, you know how much for?
kicker2666 2 years ago

the hornet and superhornet are already both JSF aircraft. they are just adding the F-35 to the fleet of JSF's

dude u have the wrong aircraft. the one ur thinking of is the CF-18 (Canada)
F/A-18C (USA)
just because the roles are the same doesnt make them both JSFs
BRIANROX1 2 years ago
yes i know its the CF-18. its a variation on the US F/A-18. hence (c)f-18. (c)
madpballer 2 years ago
The tags on that aircraft and the aircraft carrier crew are definitley the United States.
