I love my Merrell Phaser Peaks. Good insole and outsole, well built. The Vibram sole is also great on wet surfaces. The stock lases were too long but paracord fixed that. For sizing, I've got a narrow heel and an extra wide toe box and these fit great. I'll have to try your top to bottom tying method.

@xodspork I use that method on all my boots, Got the idea from a fellow firefighter when i was a smoke jumper.
