@rufusakaeric You actually don't need to do that. The glow plugs stay on for almost a minute with the key in the on position. I usually wait another 20-25 seconds after the light goes out.
A little valve ticking is normal under cold engine conditions with these engines. When the oil has been pumped around in the engine and the engine reaches his normal operating temperature it should go away. You still hear ticking at temperature you need to take a look at the valves and valve lifters.
This is that exact video I have been looking for. My car makes that same clacking sound at startup as well.. until it is warm.. it seems like yours does it a little less after it is running for a few seconds.. but is that normal?

This is how one should do it, "pre-heating" 2-3 times before actually starting the engine. Thumbs up man :)
