What a powerful voice he had.....I thought it was a rather good rendition...despite the American version of a British accent....very similar to Tibbetts version I thought...his take on a British accent was just as over the top! But both brilliant singers with superb voices.
Jolly good show! Delighted to hear Nelson singing ON THE ROAD TO MANDALAY again. I had a different Eddy version on reel to reel tape in the 60s and alas, the tape went the way of all flesh after many years. Thanks so much, TauberFanLehar2, for sharing this treasure. Mr. Eddy sounds fantastic, as ever!
Oh my the Dick van Dyke school of British accent - whatever dialect is he singing in!!?? A great laugh! Peter Dawson must have wet himself! He sounds good when he drops the accent of the supposed British Tommy - for a couple of bars then he remembers and murders the song!
@jonjamg Nelson Eddy was known as The Singing Capon. His wooden performances were legendary, but nothing compares with Dick van Dyke's ineptitude at cockney. I think it was the last skirmish in the War of Independence. Let's stick to Peter Dawson doing it properly.
Thanks Dan for this upload. while Pinza is my favorite basso, Nelson Eddy is my favorite baritone. I had the chance to at least hear and see him live, and he's great. Love your opera postings of Eddy too!
