@kieman12 cause one crashed caused a nuclear explosion and now its to dangerous to have super sonic airliners...but fighter jets can go super sonic...
There was a Concorde B model that was supposed to fly in the early 1980's with slight mods but was cancelled. The engines did away with afterburners, but produced even more thrust in military power...Fuel consumption issues essentially solved...
Concorde produced nitrogen oxides in its exhaust, which, despite complicated chemical interactions with other ozone-depleting chemicals, are understood to result in degradation to the ozone layer at the stratospheric altitudes it cruised (60,000 Ft or FL600). In simple terms Concorde literally shredded the ozone lair as it flew at it's cruising altitude, as scissors would cut through paper. This is one of the reasons America and Russia both halted their development programs for their SSTs.
I'm sorry but if they can afford to have a Vulcan in the air funded entirely on donation, then we could have a single Concorde back in the air in no time. The reason why we don't is because of ridiculously outdated contracts that were agreed between France and the United Kingdom. Love it or hate it, France is pretty keen on getting one of theirs in the air for air shows, BA says no. Complain to BA if you have a problem because they are the selfish pricks who won't let her fly. Google it !
No real excuse why concordes not back in use, we have the technology now to be able to fix the problems it had, and probably make it more efficent. It was a master piece, its like someone being given a mobile phone, but choosing to use a paper cup instead.
I really dont understand why the concorde was disbanded. It had the best track record in history when it comes to safety, and for a passenger plane, it was extremely fast. If someone could enlighten me that would be great. Okay so when the times it did crash, it was pretty horrific, but then again when is a plane crash not horrific?? I dont understand it, but it was a beautiful plane, and i hope one day it will come out of retirement :)
@b3rylord the main danger was at takeoff due to tire explosions and wing damage. add to that the high speed needed for take off and the high angle of atack on takeoff the margins for error were small.
@quangluu96 Concorde was and still is the greatest machine that ever took to the skies, for things like this, cost should have no bearing, it was a feat of engineering, it was a slap in the face of impossibility
@n1234ick I agree...But all the spending had made countrys broke.. I can't spend more than I make.. I haven't got anyone that I can tax...like the people in the government can...
@Elihawk2011 What do you mean "what is it"? It's a flypast by concorde and the arrows. We'll never see this again because concorde doesn't fly any more.
this was one of the best films

@assassinofdeath13 ...no it didn't? a nuclear explosion requires the splitting of atoms... going supersonic doesn't create nuclear fision

@xPyroxx
Essentially it was 'fixed' after it was put back in service (2001) with upgrades: Kevlar protection for the fuel tanks, explosion proof tires, etc.
