  • ryhmes with conundrum. when someone asks of an example of the word my go to response is noon or lol. I like to keep things simple otherwise they become a conundrum.

  • DAMMIT IM MAD

    (read backwards)

  • The way he puts on his shoes is soooo cool !

  • I'd like to compare this to Memento, but that'd be pretty stupid since I haven't actually seen it... :)

Anyone who did care to tell me if it's like this? Well, did this make you think of the movie, or didn't you think of it until after reading this comment? Replies would be appreciated ^^

  • i like that this video was not made for the internet

  • wow

  • !tnaillirb tsuJ

  • racecar *BACKWARDS*

  • Best Palindrome is Tacocat

  • Did not find the palindrome...

Anyway, tomorow is palindrome day 11 02 2011

  • go hang a salami im a lasagna hog *BACKWARDS*

  • this film has been copied shot by shot by a Indian mass communication student group...!

  • It would be cool if the story itself was a palindrome, where the man would end up the same way he was at the first. Also if they literally talk backwards so you could hear the dialog forwards, would make it equally as wierd to watch it forwards or backwards

  • (do not read if you haven't watched yet)

    Here's what I got:

Your normal average business man prances about on his way to work while he preaches about how great his life is and continues to be overly optimistic all the way to work. But things take a turn for the worst, and he get's fired. Afterwards, he rants to his friend Paulo, but is furious when he finds out he knew beforehand he was going to be dropped, and gives him a piece of his mind. Afterwards, he heads to the hotel where he's staying-

  • only to find out that his bank account has been closed, and is no longer allowed into the hotel. He attacks the doorman in an angry fit, left only now with his only possession, his suitcase. With nowhere left to go, he uses a payphone to call his former lover Paula, who doesn't seem to be very happy with him, and refuses his plee to come over and hangs up. Business man, overwhelmed with what is probably the worst day of his life, and nowhere to stay, he rests on a nearby bench in a park(?).

  • A thief comes along and sees the opportunity to make a quick buck, and promptly seizes it with Business Man unable to pursuit him to retrieve his belongings. Now completely devastated of everything he had once had, he snaps. He heads to an overhead highway, and strips near the overview of the road below, and looks over, most likely contemplating suicide.

My 1 minute short film. If you could leave any ratings or comments I'd be very thankful :)

  • the movie is okay, but it is nothing compared to this one (which is simple and yet incredible) >search for "lost generation palindrome"

  • Ahh this is so confusing!!!

  • man, this is fuckery...lol, just kiddin

  • I don't want to "be in the man's shoes", not even the reversed of it. But I totally dig the film, it's awesome and thought provoking.

  • the music in the beginning sounds very clint mansell-like.

  • He should've just topped himself.

  • Georges Perec, a french writer, created a palindromo of 1247 words !

(He wrote a novel without using the letter e. 'La disparition' (340 pages !))

  • Of you liked this watch mamento Darren arnofsky

  • The whole movie is a palindrome. You can understand the meaning of all the conversations even if they start from the end.

Certain phrases are repeated at the end and at the start of the conversations (think 1-2-3-4-5-5-4-3-2-1 each representing a certain phrase). So it doesn't matter if you hear the transaction from beginning or end, it still makes sense. They're just altered slightly to represent a very plausible converse. Or some are just perfectely understandable from the end. Very clever.

  • хороше відео !_!

    гарна ідея)

  • I'M still fuckin amazed how the dialogs make sense......forward and backward

  • It is really cool.

  • wow that was amazing * the truth*

  • it's so simple: we change when something happens to us...

at the "beginin" he's pissed because everything is going wrong with his life, but at the end he says he's a happy person, who smiles at every single thing!

how many you know that did the same, if you're not one of them?

when something big happens (it depends if good or bad) we change.. completely!

if we're happy we become miserable, if we're miserable we become happy!

    that's so true!

  • 0.0'''' Im Dumb Struck! You Just Opened The Door Of Meh Brain To A Whole new Level Of Thinking. I Say This Cause Without Realizing It, I Was Watching This As if Playing Foward And Understanding it All Untill I Read The Info And It Said This Movie Was BACKWARDS! I Am Still Trying To Figure How I Understood this Without Hesitation.

  • Not showing how he's... spread by the bus reverse is mercyful, I think.

    5*

  • Forward reverse, left right, up down My goodness, why cant people we play in a new direction. If you allow yourself to ignore rules, theories and science and come to terms with the idea that are brains have so many restriction i.e. we cant physically do what are brain is not capable of, however you can allow yourself to realise this, which can only mean we can imagine things we cannot see or do. If we concentrate on such thoughts who knows what we will start seeing.

  • i think im too dumb to understand this completely haha

    pretty excellent video though

  • Please, someone know the last song? The one that appears with the credits. I'd to know who did it and download it. Thanks a lot! Great video.

  • Awesome ! I love the way it's done ! I added to my short films channel !

  • this is very impressive video, this is awesome.

  • I've watched this a hundred times, but first time in english. I love it, not just great as an idea but as making too. Great shots, my favourite is the one with people going down stairs on subway... beautifull. My favourite short movie. Barcinski is one great director.

  • For some reason the first and last scene(s) twist my mind. I can see the traffic moving backwards, and even the motorbikes, so the film is still playing in reverse. But it looks so much like he is running forwards. The way his balance is and his stride, and even the way he avoids the poles... It just is hard for my mind to work out how that would look when viewed normally.

  • i didnt catch that in the video the first time i watched it, but when i went back i noticed what you said seemed true. At first i thought that it might have been a slight possibility that the street was shutdown and a set of people were hired to drive in reverse. However if you stare at the main character closely you see that the angle of his arms is somewhat strange for common jogs. His arms are held that way to keep balance, but overall he does an amazing job and creating fluidity.

  • try reading a book upside down, its interesting what that does, but tempory

  • Directoring Genius!

  • if you enjoyed this, watch Irreversible for a full-length thriller with the same motif :) It was good, but the name gives it too much credit. It's just reverse storytelling with a little tweaking to make it more digestible.

  • i found the video itself to be really bland, what i really loved were the way the conversations worked

  • IMHO, the story is much more interesting to follow as it was presented, i.e., end to beginning. It's because I always wonder what caused the scene to happened. If it was presented the other way around I think the story would just be bland.

  • this is a brillant movie! the ending is sweet, makes you think about the whole thing. exactly what a short film must do! Love the end music! Whats the song?? Anybody know?

  • lol - palindrom. I mean lol. LOL.

  • Actually it only would be a Palindrome if it would start again in the end only this time forward....

and how come he actually runs forward while he screams while the cars are moving backwards?

  • I think so too. To me a palindrome does not only keep its meaning but also its exact spelling when reversed. I do appriciate the movie, but I keep thinking that the title is misleading. It is a reverse story, that's what it is.

They are walking and running backwards a lot, which makes the movie quite bizarre. That's an extra bonus.

  • i think the word Palindrome should have been a Palindrome itself.

  • @thepianoaddict it is

    Emordnilap (emo-erd-nee-lap)

  • @thepianoaddict i think about that everytime i see the word...

  • @thepianoaddict Palindromes are rasemordnilap!

  • @cheesypleasey123 xD lolololol I'm not sure if that last word is a word though. xD

  • I'm glad it has a happy ending

  • it doesnt have a happy ending, the begining is happy because its actually the end. comprende?

  • Im not an expert or anything but Im pretty sure the beginning is not the end

  • you dont have to be an expert. Look up the definition of "Palindrome" heck, its even explained at the beginning of this video. The beginning is the end, and the end is the beginning. So if you say "Jamesdude I'm glad it has a happy ending," then the day started of happy. Meaning....... just for get it, I can but dont feel like explaining it anymore.

  • The end is the bit before the video stops, and its happy

  • The end is the part where he screams, and it's not happy cause it's the beginning. :))

  • Very nice!

  • sweet movie but I don't like the ending to much

  • really interesting to follow. I was all the thinkin what happened in the beginning :D And Portuguese sounds backwards like Japanese :DD Really nice work!

  • Awesomeness in a can.

  • I dunno if I like this or not...

It's very neat to watch and try to pay attention to the events un-unfolding, but at the end of the day it's little more than a trite story that someone hit the rewind button on. So I guess I like the concept but I feel there could be so much more to it. Just doesn't feel completely fleshed out, I guess.

  • @agwellin I agree.

  • very hard to follow.. but very good

  • hard to follow, its only in reverse whats so hard about that....hmmmm.... (wonder about this comment?) glad you realized it was very good so there is hope for you.

  • i wish you tube had a play backwards button

  • Really good. It's defintely a thinker.

  • so disorienting, but really cool.

  • Its a brazilian movie

  • Great experimental short. Saw it first in a screening for the Film Festival in my town.

  • very good. confusing, but well made

  • omg i understood the beginning, then the conversations kept screwing me up. sad though, especially the patricia part

  • o.O that confused the crap out of me XD still 5/5 for coolness XDXD

  • why did the cars go backwards?

  • My god, are you dumb.THE WHOLE DANG VIDEO'S BACKWARDS SO THE CARS WOULD GO BACKWARDS TOO!!!!!

    (Meant to go to hmanham).

  • haha i for some eason watheced the whole thing its sooo cool.

  • the past always haunt at some point of your life.

  • Pulp fiction. Without the subtitles would have been a bit dull. I didn't like the break of continuity at the end where the vocal was frontwise but the video still retreated with flashbacks.

I guess the underlying moto is you reap what you sow. He should have never left her to begin with?

  • Uh...correction. Flashforwards?

  • lo que tu digas..

  • Pulp Fiction.

Flashforwards?

  • Reminds me a lot of David Lynch's style of film technique. Very nice work!

  • Philippe Barcinski is a very great director, coming up with a film like this requires a lot of talent.. AMAZING 5/5 for this

  • the pictures are better than the story though...

  • cool

  • This is what we call the new age of experimental. Show a whole movie backwards. My backwards brain.

  • I still think that the word for palindrome should itself be a palindrome.

  • i like this.

    very good.

  • It toys with my notions of causality!

  • Great and intresting movie.

  • Um...I know it's backwards. I know that they loosely defined palindrome to try to come up with a clever title for this film, which has been done at least twice before. I also know that if you were to play this movie forwards, some of the dialogue would not make sense. hence, chronological fallacies.

  • If you pay attention, everything makes sense forward as backward, except for the narration at the very end

  • very cool

  • oh god!!

i love th way yo put life in short films so true !!!

you guys are genious i just love all your videos

  • Suck. A lot of the chronology doesn't make sense. Pretty good acting though. 2/5

  • Brilliant!

  • sum1 has to download this is play it the right way round it would be awsome

  • Isn't it funny, no matter what the language spoken is, when you play it backwards it sounds like Russian?

  • Wow... this was one of few videos I could stand to watch for a full 10 minutes... so sad... great job!

  • Why's he speaking forward at around 8:00?

  • IMO he is speaking forward because it is a voice over of his emotions, which are not structured into sentences, and have no real beginning or end. Great picture

  • he is not german, that video was made in Sao Paulo - Brazil... and he speaks portuguese lool

    great video!!

  • wen he talks he sound german

  • Definitely not.

  • Memento was the first thing that came to my mind as well....

Then I thought of the coldplay video - the scientist...

  • Was anyone else reminded of Koyaanisqatsi in the cinematography on this? Absolutely loved it.

  • omg! i've not watched Koyaanisqatsi, but i love the music in it!!!

  • at the end he is runnin backwards

  • reminds me of those horrific days in my life, I've sat there at the end of the day stripped bear and the way I've recounted the memories of the day read like this piece plays. Excellent stuff.

  • Reminded me of watching Memento - watching a plot be gradually revealed and developed by going backwards in time. Very cool and well done.

  • good!!

  • i have been getting addicted to these short but sweet film and clips

  • Excellent! It is the kind of short film you can write a 5,000 word essay on.

  • 5,000 word essays are nothing when writing about films! 10,000 is more like it! ;-)

  • Nah mate the hardest thing is 1500 word essays cos then you have to trim everything down but still not be vague!

  • I was sort of hesitant this was going to be a snippet of that sicko abortion-incest movie "Palindromes" from a few years back. Yuck. Thankfully, it was pleasantly nothing to do with it at all ;)

  • excellent but my head hurts

  • wow.... this is amazing

  • Loved this short.

  • I agree with the comment "It would've been better if he had a do over day. I was expecting that." I was really expecting for him to have a do over day.

  • What on earth is a do over day?

  • do over is an Americanism. A 'do over' means you can literally do it again.

  • lol. Ohhhh. Now it's me as an Aussie's turn to go "hehe, you strange Americans." ;)

    Cheers

  • I don't think his day was bad enough to warrant him running through the street in his underwear, unless they skipped the part where he got wasted.

  • muy bueno!

  • Wonderful piece of art and great execution in literally filming it in "hindsight", which, as so opulently demonstrated here, is NOT always 20/20.

The main character kept reminding me of Joaquin Phoenix :)

  • haha me too

  • Who knows what's the final musical theme? pls

  • look for it on imdb, or in the credits at the end.

  • Ther's nothing to admire here. The idea is simple and it's a one time impression. To admire this you have to have your brain overdone by drugs. :)

  • You are simple minded, thats what you are.

  • Now I think you are just simple minded there when you say "you expected something else". Me to. And about the frases you put here: stop listening to N-Sync or whatever. "Thats what you are" is a proof your a poof. ;) No hard feelings.

  • Have you publically got something against gays?

  • It would've been better if he had a do over day. I was expecting that. The ending didn't live up to the piece.

  • Nothing to do with the losing vice-presidential nominee (Sarah Palin) but pretty good film.

  • You know you've been watching too much bullshit when you see the word PALINdrome and think sarah palin :/

  • Amazing film, a little confusing during the dialogue, but stunning all the same.

  • I enjoyed watching the physical palindromic excamples. Hyperventilating and run-screaming look the same in reverse.

  • Excelent! Its very nice to see brazilian shorts in Future.

    Parabéns Barcinski!

  • To pick out the individual merits of this film would require more words than the average youtube watcher has time to digest. Surfice to say this is brilliant and well worth watching. Technically engrossing, visually intriguing and narratively engaging. Watch it once and enjoy, watch it again and admire.

  • Good, but very hard to keep along. Can't do a 10 minutes reverse movie, maybe just a short skit would be good, like that Shower one futureshorts posted a while ago.

  • Amazing Trick

  • This makes me think of a Czech film called Happy End, which is a feature-length film which runs in reverse. It's not palindromic though - the reverse story is completely different from the original story.

  • !!gnizama oos saw tahT

  • !tnemmoc revelc a tahW

  • Fantastic! Brilliant! I loved it!

  • interesting slant on life. captures the claustrophobic nature of the big city blues.

  • Yes! Finally a thinking one.

  • FUCKING GREAT !!!

  • If I put this in revers?

  • WOW, this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen!

  • unique

  • very thought provoking

    good job!

  • Love it

  • Fantastic!

  • Nicely Done. Bravo.

  • Seemed like the opening of Memento. Good stuff!

  • Excellent! Parabens!!
