People in the video said they traveled from east to west, that not a typical direction for winds on the west coast. They also said the lights vanished from view over the horizon. That makes them very high in the sky, if they were lanterns at that height you most likely wouldn't see them very well.

NOT UFO's, They are Chinese Lanterns! The Asian community celabrates Lantern Festival between Jan 1 to Feb 20 of every year..the same thing happened in England during this time, they called it UFO's but an Asian party claimed responibility for it. I set them off every year with my son and wife. The amber-orange candle we use to make it fly makes it look like a UFO.

That very well could be the case. The thing is though...these lights were moving uniformly and not changing positions according to the reports. You may very well be right though :)

UFOs yes... aliens... probably not. My best guess as someone who has seen several unidentified flying objects is that its some new military hardware undergoing a test. if they were helicopters they might have new stealth technology, etc. but all anyone can offer is speculation im afraid.

Same thing happened in Stephenville, Texas at around the same time. At first in news reports the military said it had no aircraft in Stephenville at the time of the sighting. Right now, on January 23, there is a news report at Yahoo which says that the military now claims the UFOs were its fighter jets conducting exercises. I smell something fishy.

I thought the video was great. The lights did look like helicopters at night, but why so may flying together? The description on how the objects departed also sounds unfamiliar with anything I've seen in the night sky. I thought of foo fighters or what has been going on in Mexico while watching the images.

I agree. I live near an airport; therefore, I'm used to seeing and hearing air traffic at night. I know it kind of insults your intelligence when people assume someone else can't tell the difference between conventional air crafts and UFOs.
