  • Thank you SOOO VERY MUCH !!!! :) works peeerfect now :D

  • Great stuff, thanks so much for this. Greatly appreciated.

  • I am STILL stuck in same place. When I try to enter "Network Shares"->MSHOME\MYCOMPUTER .. it ask username and password. Even after your quide it asks user/passw.

I have given my username and password but it does not work(but if I try to connect this shares from other computer my user/passw work just fine)

And all my NAS shares work just fine (they work with that default "anonymous" username)

    HELP PLEASE..

  • thank you!

  • hi, i did what you said in video and it works, but can i password protect the folder that i share so no one else in my network can access it without password, and still access it from my wd tv live? i would be glad if you can discribe it to me how to do it. I tried to leave on password protected sharing in advanced sharing settings but where can i set a password because it stoped working. Thx

  • Thanks for your efforts. Simple and to the point!

  • thanks a million for this!

  • Omg I had to manual replace permission on over a 1000 files because of the security steps, I got locked out of everything

  • Can you get external subtitle (.SRT) to work when streaming to WD TV Live?

  • @Awesomekid33MT yeah i think you can if you just rename the .srt file the same as the movie. For example The_Godfather.mkv and The_Godfather.srt Then you have to just go select in on screen options.

  • Hey, I'm having trouble getting my WD to work. I have all the same settings but still need a login, i leave it as anonymous and its fine but I cant get the internal HDD to show but my external will. All the settings are the same...

  • @doctorphate for mine my account is "workgroup" all lowercase and my password is my network login password. Another problem i have is i always have to turn on my wdtv player first then boot up my computer. the wdtv often fails to either see my computer or at least it won't connect. Also with my laptop i can have either the wireless connected or the wired ethernet but not both. So i always turn on the wdtv before the computer and always disconnect one of my two internet connections.

  • Very thanks man! Now I understand a little more the security options of Windows 7, and I can view my sharing folder from my WDTV!

    Many thanks!

  • A great video....followed and worked like a charm !

  • Mine wouldn't see my Win7 64 network share. I only did the registry part of the fix in the text below the video, and it seems to have fixed it. I have only tried it once but it wouldn't work at all prior. Thanks for your help!

  • @the computerguyonline... or anyone else that could possibly help

Great video works a treat. Do u know why when playing blu-rays it skips all the time???

    Please help..

  • I got problems also, I actually didn't change my settings from how I had it to share with my ps3. All I changed was my firewall settings (added the address for the wd live), added my guest account to my permissions in the share and turned on my Guest account.

  • if u checked the full control and the change box in the permission section under advanced sharing this will also solve this problem. Windows somehow denies the WD any rights to your shared folders by default under share b/c these boxes aren't checked.

  • If you found this while searching for why your Windows XP shares don't show up,

Do this: Start Button, Administrative Tools, Services, locate "Network DDE" and ensure that Start Up Type is "Automatic". If it's shown as "Disabled", right click the "Network DDE" entry and use the Properties Tab to set it to "Automatic".

  • Thanks for the effort in the video thecomputerguyonline... I followed all instructions and could not get my WDTV Live to work reliably.

For all those having any problems, the only deviation I took from the above method was to enable media streaming in my network advanced options.

Upon doing so, my Win7 PC discovers WDTV Live and I have no dramas with it.

Also note, I logged into my router and allowed access to the device and added it's MAC address as a trusted station. (Netgear DGN-2000)

  • awesome awesome awesome! worked like a charm! i just bought 3 more of these now that i know it works!

  • @thecomputerguyonline too bad nothing works for me, I have troubleshot about everything imaginal and still nothing. i have had the piece of crap hub up and running once before. WD doesn't know how to put out a quality product, I got it at technician discount and I still think its an overpriced piece of crap. i think i am about to use at a frisbee, or the first person with $140 bucks

  • Stops playing at 3:46. What am I missing? Has this vid been updated?

  • thank's man :D after 2 hours of work i find your video

  • Great video. I follow all steps and it works.

  • thanks dude! worked like a charm!

  • I was using "Media Server" as my device, and the unit can't see my MKV files. It could see them on a USB drive. Interestingly, when you use "Media Server", file extensions aren't shown, but on a USB drive they are. I used your instructions to switch to "Network Shares", and sure enough I can now see my MKV files. Thanks. Anyone know why you can't see MKV via Media Server though?

  • @juzdownunder Depends on your media server. I'm using TVersity, and .mkv files are no problem.

  • In the net view command if you get the error 6118 (I think that's it) it's most likely the Computer Browser service, and if the list is just empty it's probably your firewall.

  • Thanks for this, I would add a couple notes that I had to do to make it ultimately work along with your work above.

Start the Computer Browser service, and set to AUTOMATIC

Make sure your firewall has the TCP/UDP ports forwarded for ports 135-139 on your home network where you want to share.

Open a command window and use the command 'net view' and if you do not see your sharing computer and the WD Live TV then it's probably the computer browser service or your firewall.

  • Hi. I am wondering if you can help me. Equipment: WD TV Live Plus connected via HDMI to Sharp Quattron 46" flat panel TV. Computers: Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, iMac, MacMini, all 2010-2011 equipment. Problem: Can not access network share always displays although WD TV Live recognizes all my home network computers. Network test check is successful. Question: Why can I not see the resources (medai data folders) although WD TV Live recognizes all computers? Puzzled. Thanks much. Jerry

  • Yes, finally I could watch Sons of anarchy through my wdtvlive in 720p. I have gone back and forth with this thing and when I finally found some files from my pc, the .mkv files wouldnt play unless I put them on a usb drive. Thanks for sharing this video. Forever grateful =)

  • I did this and now Ive lost permission to add or delete files from my harddrives.

Ive tried with administrator and anything else with no success :(

  • Thank you alot. Got my shares up and running now with like Live Hub.

  • Thanks a lot man, I hate setting up these stupid boxes. I usually fart around until it works. This tutorial is great. One thing you probably mentioned, I had to allow write access to let wdtv create its folder, otherwise you get cannot play selected file error.

  • I had to refer to this again. I love you for this. Please never take it off of youtube.

  • So what happens when you want to share your media on your xbox or from a remote location? Will turning this feature back on interfere with the playback on the WD TV?

  • worked a charm... thanks

  • WORKED LIKE A CHARM and I got a Networking lesson on Windows 7!!

  • WD should hire you. YOU SAVED ME A TON OF HEADACHES! thanks so much!!

  • I didn't even know you could allow your computer to share folders directly and therefore not needing to send them to the WD which had my harddrive connected to it. Now I am just going to connect my harddrive to laptop and watch them through streaming :) Ps. the reseting the router and modem reset the WDTVLIVE under networks for me too! Thanks so much for your video and all the helpful responses to other people they truly helped me a ton! Cheers!

  • I had originally had my 500gb harddrive hooked up to my WD like you would a flash drive and sometimes the WD (and harddrive) would be shown and accessible under network as WDTVLIVE. Other times it would just disappear for a few days sometimes a week and then suddenly reappear which was really annoying sometimes being able to transfer video and other times not. I was looking for a solution to get the WD to permanently show under networks and stumbled across this video! I didn't even know you....

  • Thanks! This worked for me!

  • thank you!!!

  • Lovely tutorial... Code it into a little GUI and sell it to WD :P

  • for those of you who have tried it all and still can't get it to work, this one does fix the problem: uninstall the bloody Windows ID Live Assistant, trust me, it works

  • I had been using TVersity to stream, but it won't show MKVs if you are connected wirelessly, so I thought I'd give the Network Shares another go. Luckily I found your video, which was a lifesaver, although there were still a few glitches, especially when it came to sharing folders. But now it is working well. Thanks!

  • Thanks to your tutorial, it saved me from taking this device back and refunded after I couldn't get it to access network with window 7. Your tutorial have the right info that you can get. Awesome, keep it up!

  • Ive tried this method but constantly get "no storage present" on the WD live. What could I be doing wrong?

  • Got it to work great...once my PC and WD Live were on the same subnet.

    Thanks!

  • thank you dude, you rock! been trying all sorts of naff solutions and this was by far the easiest and worked a treat!

  • basically 6:34 -- 6:47 was what is the solution

  • @reanimax87 i ment 5:54 - 6-47, 8 mins video is too long dude

  • After I add permissions I click OK and a message tells me "Error applying security" "Access is denied". Any ideas?

  • @jkherberger That's a sure sign that you're not running as an administrator. Or, you do not have ownership of that folder.

  • @jkherberger You're not running as an administrator. Make sure you have full administrator rights before you start changing permissions.

  • @thecomputerguyonline I have this problem as well. How do you run as administrator? (I've only been using Win7 for a few days).

  • Hi, I just got the WD TV Live Plus, I followed the video, changed the advance settings in the network and sharing center, also added everyone and setup the read & execute permissions, I can see the folder being shared, but when I go to the WDTV I don't get anything listed in the sharing. Is there any setting I need to setup in the device itself? I don't know what else to try.

  • This actually didn't work for me at all...I have gotten the thing to see my shares, but it's really dodgy. Sometimes it says there are no files there, then I restart it and suddenly the files have returned! It drives me nuts :(

  • uhm_î_féël_sõ_lÔnElY_tÔdÄÿ

  • All my movies are in my D: Drive. I don't see WD TV Live can see my D drive even though it is already shared. Is there a way I can do that?

  • @ceddy1031 Even though it's not recommended to share a drive on the root level, you can still do it. Just follow the same method I outline in my video when I set up the Tutorial shared folder and it will be available on the WD.

  • good video mate, appreciated.

  • Like everyone else here many thanks for uploading this. Saved lots of hair pulling trying to get it sorted myself lol

  • @mpukbarney Very welcome. I recently upgraded one of my 3 WD TV Live boxes to a Plus and I have to say... the Netflix integration is very nice. I also run a PlayOn server from my primary machine and it too streams Netflix so if you're still using a WD TV Live without the Plus, download and try PlayOn. Good luck and glad to hear it worked for you too. ;)

  • Nice tutorial. You just save my day. Thank you for sharing this !!!

  • @Syrinx12112 hehe...makes me feel good that people are still getting help from this.

  • Thank you! Man you sure eased the pain

  • Hey.. I done everything you just said.. and it worked for a couple of days and it stopped working. After a couple of days it starts to work and then it stopped again!

  • @wildchild124 sorry for the delay in the rply wildchild. it sounds like something changed on your network. Maybe a power outage or possibly an upgrade to your operating system. Try resetting the WD box and clearing the login information under settings. Then reboot everything and try to connect again. If that fails do a hard reset on the WD box, enter all the settings again (sucks, I know) and try again. Let me know how it goes.

  • @thecomputerguyonline Hey, Thanks for your help. I think I've finally figured it out. What I did was. I switched off the WDTV from the main power and I reset my Wifi router.I had my PC (Win7-64) and my Laptop (MacOSX10.6) on. After I reset the router both my computers connected to a new IP address as It was set to Auto config. Then what I did was I connected from my MacBook Pro to my Windows 7 64. I could browse my videos easily. FInally, I switched back on my WDTV Live and it's working perfect.

  • @wildchild124 This is what did it for me too! Thanks everyone!

  • Very useful, worked fine for me, many thanks!

  • nice job ! thank you !

  • sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln ! Thank you ! Up to this point I was using the newtwork to look at youtube and the likes, using a removable drive to connect to the back of it in orer to watch other stuff. Now everything stream nicely off my Windows 7 64 bit !

    thank you again !

  • @dazkebabs very happy to hear you're getting success with this video. I wish I could rerecord the audio to make it more enjoyable to people. Thanks again and happy viewing!

  • Thanks, but it didn't work :( My WDTV Live still don't have my PC in the network share option!

  • @sputnik790 Tell me what you did, step by step and I'll try to work you through it.

  • @thecomputerguyonline I have send you a private message!

  • @thecomputerguyonline

dude I really appreciate you taking the time to upload this, was really optimistic, when I go to network settings I can see my computer but the padlock is locked, think my neighbors is there which is open but I cant see any of his files, lol, I thought by changing the settings it would not ask for password but it does and the same outcome, will not connect, I am using Edimax Wireless-N USB Dongle EW7717UN with d-link dir 615 - did read that this set up works, can u help dude

  • @sputnik790 wow, that was fast:) I did exactly as in your video, the problem is that my WDTV does not see my PC at all, it's just not in there!

  • @sputnik790 I think your problem is with how your computer is configured on your network. Possibly it's set to not allow shares, maybe the folder you've set up is allowing the incorrect group to view it, permissions on the folder level or above, inheritable permissions in the file share... I may have asked you this already but can you view your shares from another computer on your network? That info will give us a place to start.

  • Thanks worked perfectly!

  • Hi, I've tried everything on the video with W7 and 32bit. No success. I can see folders but not the one I created like in the video. Just the public folder. I haven't tried the registry edit because there is no Everybody option. I have entries like Administrator, User, Users with \ then my name. Where is the Everybody option?

  • @garyzzari you have to add that manually. When you pull up the properties on the folder and hit the security tab and Edit button there is an option to Add a group or user. Click Add and type in Everyone. Click Ok. Reboot everything and clear the login info on the WD. That should do it.

  • thanks mate you are a genius! worked perfectly!

  • @tacroy2 Awwww...shucks. Glad to hear it's working mate.

  • That helped me get it working. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video.

  • To Jason, from SkillTech - thank you very very much for putting this tutorial up. You have solved my dilemma & I can now stream from my media folder, only because of your help!!!

  • @franny001 sounds like a great success story. You're very welcome.

  • Absolute genius, never mind WD TV live it makes a Viewsonic VMP74 work on Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

  • Can You help me I had this thing working until now.I didn't do anything just added few more files to share and now it doesn't see shares at all like I'm not sharing anything it doesn't even see my computer

  • @vmarkovic82 Sounds like it may be some permissions which carried over from wherever they were extracted or copied from. You will want to go back into the root folder of your share and inherit the permissions again on that entire directory.

Right-click on the folder > properties > security tab > advanced > change permissions button > select Everyone > uncheck the Include inheritable permissions box > Remove > Apply ---- check the box back for inheritable permissions and apply. Ok, Ok, Ok

  • Thanks dude, your video helped me out Immensely!

  • @thommodog no problem. Glad it's still helping people.

  • I dont know. i did all the steps and its still asking for the name and password after i hit the computer name. I made sure i had password protected sharing off

  • @Khameleon808 on the WD under settings > network clear the log in information. Make sure you perform the registry edit in the description to put anonymous in the everyone group. Reboot the WD.

  • dude you kick ass it fcking works!! i was looking for this like 1year!

  • This was cool of you to post this helpful video. Unfortunately for me, the WD TV Live proved too hard to get configured. That's too bad, because I was really wondering if it could stream video across my network without stuttering and so on. Guess I will go back to my Boxee box, which was extremely easy to set up.

  • wow thanks man.... I just made it!!!!!!! I have Windows 7 ultimate 32b, I tried to follow your video but in some steps I had to figure out how to change some things because they appeared different in this W7 version. Thanks again, after a day and a half, now I can enjoy my WD Media Player with network shares =P

  • @lalot15 glad to hear you got it up and running. I just picked up one of the WD TV Live HD Hubs. Nice features and 1TB of storage on the device. Enjoy the movies and happy holidays.

  • hmm it didn't work for me,

    i have a win7 os

and i have done your reg edit and still doesn't work.

When i try to access my computer there is a password already filled in, which i can't clear :S

  • @BringMeTheCookie Let's lay out the environment. You're running Windows 7 (what version?). Have you configured your 'Home Network' before you tried this? Have you hard reset your WD TV Live unit? Have you cleared the log in information on the WD > Settings -==- more information needed but we're on the right track

  • @thecomputerguyonline

    dw all good!

    thanks alot bro <3

  • @BringMeTheCookie good to hear. I want me cookie! hehe. ;)

  • @BringMeTheCookie If you can't clear your password you're nut running with administrator permissions.

  • i did this but i can only see the name of my windows 7 pc on WD Live. No folders showing ,...any ideas?

  • @maltaselfdefence It sounds like to me that anonymous is not in the everyone group so you're just seeing the list of other workstations on your workgroup. Make sure you follow the registery edit in the description to put anonymous in the everyone group and clear the log in information on the WD under settings > network.

  • Maybe this is the same issue that happens with Boxee. The solution in that case is, if you have installed Windows Live, you should uninstall Windows Live Sign In Assistant

  • I got nothing. I followed your directions. I am using windows 7, I can see the WDTVLIVE on my laptop and the media pc under "network" but the WDTV shows none of my shares.

  • The audio was scratchy and distorted and the explanations ran a little to fast for me, but your information really help me fix my sharing problem. Thank you very much !!!

  • I folowed everyhing you said and it didnt work it keps asking for usebrane and password and when I click ok it says invalid username or password

  • @vmarkovic82 If it's asking for a username and password you need to set the WD to automatic login and follow the registry edit in the description to put the anonymous group under everyone.

  • @thecomputerguyonline thank you for the advice now the share work but when I open some directories it says that it does not contain any video

  • @vmarkovic82 a directory or read error is going to be due to incorrect directory permissions or the user, in this case "anonymous", to not have access to view because they're not in the Everyone group. Be sure you follow the registry edit closely above and make the appropriate changes on the WD. Giving the thing a clean reset wouldn't hurt as well.

  • @thecomputerguyonline thank you so much.i fixed it.just needed to ad everybody in security tab.thank you again it helped, now it works great.you are the wizard.

  • @thecomputerguyonline: i cant share my computer to the wd tv live. im using windows xp prof.,, i followed ur description but it doesnt work. it requires me to sign in. can u please help

  • thanks for the tutorial, but maybe you can help me on sharing a internet connection from my laptop via wifi to the wd hd tv live plus box via lan. Im connected to my wireless router and have the wireless network internet sharing to my lan port but when i connect my hd tv live plus to my laptop I cant seem to obtain a IP address on the box. In win7 I can see the connection being established. Any idea how to get this working?

  • Jason, great video. I recently purchased two new PCs with W7 and the WD TV Live plus. I had the login\pwd problem so I tried your solution. Sadly it did not work for me. I then seemed to make things worse by trying to change ownership ...bottom line is I've screwed up my access to the folders and files in my videos folder on my 1TB media drive it's a mess HellllllllP.

Note: While my computer has media center pre-installed, I have not configured it. Not sure if that impacts things or not

  • @InATrance100 so you tried the registry edit and suggestion for resetting the WD as well as setting the auto login in the WD settings?

  • Everything worked thanks to your tutorial. Thank you.

  • This worked great, thank you. this was driving me crazy.

  • Dude you rock, I had to watch this video 6X and started a folder from scratch but YES!

  • Network discovery continues to turn itself back off everytime I attempt to turn it on. Have looked online for a solution but so far have not found it. Any advise?

  • I cant open Network Shares... i try pressing ENTER and it doesnt open :S. Ive had to manually put in my network settings if thats any help. Thankyou!

  • This fix broke again for me when using the newest beta firmware, but for everyone who isn't totally married to network share but hates tversity and wmp, USE PS3 Media Server! It works _great_ and is easy, you can keep windows live etc.

  • This guide solved my w7 network share problem, fantastic, thank you very much. Also thanks at jacobgoldsbury, when you finally see your pc but are promted for login and just clicking ok doesn't get you in, DEINSTALL windows live essentials 2011.

Next I wonder why the first movie I tried (normal dts) didn't have sound:(

  • Hooray! I solved my problem by disabling Windows Live Auto Log.

  • Is the tutorial available in a format that can be printed on paper? For me it would be easier to follow all of the vital steps. I can't remember the instructions when accessing the menus under control panel. Best, Aaron

  • @pandanh1 Problem has been solved! But not by following these instructions.

I see that they have worked for some, but not for all. I tried, without success, but

switching between watching the video & tweaking the settings proved for me fruitless. But fortunately, there are two third party applications that make sharing easy, without need to tweek different computer settings.

They are TVERSITY (which is free) and MEZZMO, (which costs $30.). Both worked easily, MEZZMO has free trial..

  • i cant get it to work any help

  • YOU ARE THE BEST! I've had my box for like 8 months and could never get it to work so i gave up. I have been transfering every movie to my 16gb usb stick. Your directions are perfect and now i can sit on my couch and browse my whole library of media.THANK YOU SO MUCH.

  • I was struggling for hours. Mine did work but had to do a fresh install of W7U and could not get it to work again. I tried what you said and BOOM (you do like the word boom lol) it's all working!!!!! Thankyou so much for this tutorial, your the man!

  • @chilliman07 haha...yeah, boom is a nice way to describe the functionality you unlock with the WD after it works. :) Glad to see what I compiled nearly a year ago is still helping people.

  • After I removed inheritable permission I seem to be denied access to the folder I am trying to share AND all folders in it. It seems to have taken me off of ownership. Is there a way to reset so I don't have to change EVERY folder's ownership?

Also, the WD TV Live device still asks me for Account and Password to access my PC in Network Shares even after changing the settings per this video. I am not even sure what Account and Password it wants anyways.

  • @thecompterguyonline

I fixed my owner probs, but the WD device still asks for an Account and Password when I try to select my PC on Network shares. PLEASE HELP!!!

  • @jacobgoldsbury

How do you turn it off? im getting the same thing??

  • Thought it might be the iso - so copied the iso to an external USB drive and plugged that in and it works fine..

    Any ideas guys ?

  • This was most helpful but a couple of things:

1). If you have been messing about with the WD TV live box trying to get it working then after you have followed these instructions - Do a Factory Reset on the WD box - then try getting your Network Shares on the WD Box.

2). This doesn't overcme the problem I have which is the inability for the WD box to "pull" the data fast enough. With a 21GB Blu-ray there's no problem but go to a 40GB (Dual Layer) BD and it stutters and freezes.

  • @wmontagu The problem with data throughput is not a WD problem. This is a problem with your pipe or issues with your PC/laptop being able to feed the data fast enough. My suggestion on that is to get a program to rip the BluRay down to something more adequate in size. Reducing the main film by half or even greater will result in no noticeable degradation in quality...by human eye that is.

  • @thecomputerguyonline I do agree, but wonder why !! I can play the same movie with PowerDVD 8 and onto the plasma via HDMI fine.

PC is Core2 Duo (E6600), 8GB Ram, 6TB HDD, 100mb Cat5, W7 Ultimate (64). Wondering if the Router with VoiP and packet prioritization is the problem ??

  • thank you so much! I was pulling out my hair before watching your video. It's working great now.

Can I ask you a noob question - do I have to leave my computer on all time if I want to watch my movies?

  • The other important factor is the requirement for the "everyone" group.

I tried adding myself with full admin permissions and administrator and did not work. I removed all but "everyone" with read only permissions and it worked fine.

Now with XP all I had to do is right click the file/folder and click the file sharing box.. A bit more to deal with here with Windows 7, but I am all for added security.

  • Hello Jason,

I just wanted to thank you for your valuable advise. I spent considerable time trying to get my files/folders to be recognized on my wd live with no avail. Like you I had read various tech recommendations and used my own common sense to get most of the setting correct. It was the couple suggestions that you pointed out that made the connection.

1. I set the sharing options to stream

    2. I set windows to manage connections,

I made these changes and voila ..worked fine.

  • Thanks !

I already tried a bunch of options, but this tutorial did it.

  • Nice video! I'm seriously thinking of getting one of this WDTV Live. One thing I'm thinking of - I don't have a DVD player atm, so I've used my computer to play DVDs to my TV through a component cable, so I'm wondering can I share my DVD-RW player and play DVDs through the network in the WDTV Live? Have anyone tried this? Thankful for replys :)

  • I mean share DVD-RW ROM catalog ofc :)

  • @Rawxbinn The only way you can do what you want is through the Media Center included in the Ultimate and Home Premium editions of Windows 7. There are third-party software which will do that as well but I'd say away from them as they sometimes hijack network configurations. In my video when I say to turn Media Streaming off...keep that on and when you right-click on your DVD player you can share with the WD. It pushed the signal to the device.

  • thank you so much very simple if you know what to do, "witch i did not lol"

i am so glad you took your time to make this video i was about too give up on this thing now i can play with it all those fourms and WD.com i read and the best advise i get from a awsome guy on youtube youtube lol i should have started here lol

  • Thanks for the tips, I found that once the sharing settings were made, the most important change I made was to reboot the Windows machine because logging out wasn't enough to make the settings "take". That and ensure auo-login setting is on the WD Live because this is not the default setting

  • One more thing. I also want to share the media thats in my network shares folder with my xbox360. What is your preffered method? Thanks.

  • @Jfatora3 PlayOn and their beta My Media works well. Also Media Center if you have Home Premium or Ultimate works well.

  • Dude I sent one of these back because the Network share wasn't working, why is it this difficult for advanced users to set this thing up?

All my third party programs could find each folder ( PlayOn, etc) but WD Network share would not work. Gonna try this tonight, thanks man!!!

  • Thanks alot! I was so frustrated before finding your tutorial. I had all these different folders shared with nothing in them, media shares that led to nowhere. Now I'm organized and streaming my newly ripped bluray iso files around the house. Thanks again.

  • @Jfatora3 Glad to hear you got it working. Network shares are fickle at best. It takes a solid understanding of stuff you don't necessarily enjoy learning about to set these things up correctly. Unfortunately most manufacturers don't test these devices in depth before distribution. Oh well, that's what techs are for ;)

  • I am able to hook up my USB external drive and push files on to it and play them on the WD Live TV Plus, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong as to why I can't view the files on my PC from the WD TV Live...I followed the instructions and even the registry, but nothing shows up in the network share

  • edit: after struggling with this thing for a strong 30 minutes (HEHE) I finally found out the problem is my McAfee firewall....if I shut it off I can see all my shared folders, but if I leave it on I can't access it...not sure what settings have to be enabled to make this work :(
