  • Just so people are not confused: Family did their joke on the song Surfin' Bird but The Trashmen. The song Surfin bird was a combination of two songs by the Rivingtons, those songs were this one, and "The bird is the word"

  • ...or as The Oak Ridge Boys said in their hit 'Elvira',

"oom papa oom papa oom papa mow mow"

  • @APColorizing I noticed that as well.

  • @xheyitsowenjx How I feel sometimes as well.

  • The Rivingtons came out first. Surfin' Bird is a "mash-up" of this song and "Bird's The Word"

  • bad ass

  • Brian, don't!!!

  • Family guy ruined this for me.

  • @TheFpuff This is why I'm glad I don't watch that show.

  • @TheFpuff They never sang this on Family Guy. They sang "Surfin' Bird" by The Trashmen, which is a combination of this song and "The Bird is the Word", also by The Rivingtons.

  • @TheFpuff yeah they have ruined many songs.the tv show american dad did the same

  • @TheFpuff ruined? or made it better?

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! :D

  • MAN I AM 12 AGAIN WOOOOOOOOOOO PAPA OOM MOW MOW

  • Take note...Punk music aint nothing R&B....all those songs like the Trashmen's Surfin Bird and later covered the Ramones, and The cramps "OOM Mow Mow came from this! Think about these were the original "misfits" that were seen as different, also they invented the short no longer than 3 minute songs

  • Musica massaaaaaaaaaaa

  • And people say rap music makes no sense....

    NOTE: I like rap music.

  • @RedShadow1917

Your like rap crap?? Take this: Papa Oom Mow Mow!

Papa Oom Mow Mow !! Rap Sucks!!!

  • @NewWaveTH I like this song, I was just poking fun at the lyrics.

  • Howard Chaykins American Flagg

  • yet another black masterpiece stolen by a white band

  • @manuellopez1956 If this masterpiece was actually stolen, nobody would ever hear about The Rivingtons.

  • @ahmed1985 Thats the truth. Some times it takes a good cover to let people know that a song even exist. Nobody did it as good as this. OH MOW MOW.

  • @ahmed1985 Thats the truth. Some times it takes a good cover to let people know that a song even exist. Nobody did it as good as this though. OH MOW MOW.

  • @manuellopez1956

Mexicans are the worst offenders for ripping off black music.

  • @museack how the hell do you know if he's mexican? there's argentinians, cuban, puerto ricans, spaniards, dominicans, peruvians, salvadoreans, and WAY more that share the same language.stop that racism against only mexicans fuckin bullshit already.damn all this hatred makes me sick

  • @BeliOV7 OK, you fuckin' mexican....lolol

  • @museack get a life, dude.turn on the tv and watch the damn news.all the stupid bullshit that is happening and you're all thinkin its funny talkin shit.u need to mature

  • @museack

If it's good, then rip it. Nothing wrong with that.

    Rappers sample music.

  • our lips are sealed

  • 1962

  • @xheyitsowenjx dude alltough im with you on that these songs are importand and stuff, did u know that surfin bird was from this song second u were born? or did u know that those two would become a new song first time you heard them? dont hate on family guy making these important song bigger and once again popular.

  • First time I heard about this song was on an episode of The Lucy Show. It was the episode where their TV broke down.

  • Surfin Bird by The Trashmen came from this song.

  • hear this sound everywhere i go,,record tv and the radio...that was the truth...i'll bet the rivingtons never expected this novelty song to go national overnight....amazing voices...thanks for the post...5 stars.

  • Having grown up in public schools, I can tell you truthfully that most black people are more like these fun loving guys than the people you see on the news committing crimes.

The ones I know make the most of life and have fun, while not having all the material things the tv tells us we should have.

It's a shame that people bully and treat others unfairly, especially out of jealousy or hate.

LOVE yer neighbor, do unto others what you would have them do unto you.

    Papapapapaphpowmowmoaowpapap

  • @IVatworky For sure. Peace be with you.

  • saw them at "Retails Clerks Hall" in Buena Park across from Knotts Berry Farm about 1965....think the show was with The surfaris and another surf band. they played all over Orange county in the early 60's

  • trahsmen just used it as part of their own tune, surfin bird.

  • one of greatest one hit wonders of the 60s, kids. several rerecordings, but the rivingtons got it right the first time, huge cult hit in cleveland. guy named ernie anderson, aka ghoulardi, played it on friday nights while he was insulting dorothy fuldheim, a noted television journalist and philanthropist, also played it for any skit he did, like blowing up plastic cars with firecrackers . he ran garbage movies like cyclops, etc. surfin bird nothing to do with this tune

  • This was back when music, especially black music, had soul.

  • for anyone who replied to my comment. you're idiots. surfin bird is a mix of this song and bird is the word.

  • @realgone23 'Bird is the Word' is not the name of the song. The name of the song is ' Surfin Bird' by The Trashmen.

  • Is this a re-recording by them??? Sounds wrong, not as fresh and energetic. I think their original version is on kiddysoulgirl99 page.

  • PAPAPAPA WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie

  • Remember this song when I was in Jr. High and they would play music during lunch.... love this song!

  • Сергей Курёхин рулит!

  • My dad always sings this because my friends name sounds like "Mow" xD

  • Which came first - the "Papa Oom Mow Mow Mow" or "The BIRD"?????

  • @IsItEarthYet papa oom mow mow mow

  • @onlyshadowknows I remember them both coming out around the time i was born & they lingered in obscure 'gimmick/borderline comic' song 'purgatory' for many years. John Waters was the 1st to re-foist 'The Byrd' on us in recycled pop culture w/his 1972 work of [garbage] art: "Pink Flamingoes". 'The Byrd' had the dubious distinction of being the background soundtrack to the 2nd most disgusting scene in the movie involving a male sphincter muscle contortionist. :O

  • @IsItEarthYet The Rivingtons' "Papa Oom Mow Mow" along with their "Bird Is The Word" were combined for The Trashmen's "Surfin' Bird" (the commonly known version covered by The Ramones et. al.).

  • @IsItEarthYet Papa_Oom_Mow_Mow_Mow_it_came_first_srry_spacebar_is_broken

  • @IsItEarthYet papa oom mow mow

  • @IsItEarthYet Papa Oom Mow Mow came first. I asked my mom. She was alive when this came out and she said it came out before The Bird

  • @IsItEarthYet Papa Oom #48 in 1962, The Bird #52 in 1963. According to That Old Time Rock & Roll--A Chronicle of an Era 1954-1963 by Richard Aquila.

  • @IsItEarthYet Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow 1962. The Bird's the Word 1963

  • @EbonyBunny1 Thanks Bunny! I can rest now!

  • Go Muppets! :)

  • Just some really good singers having fun this is what music should be!

  • Papa Oom WOW WOW!! more like!

  • simply divine lol

  • Thumbs up if you're sooooo cool because you knew about this song before family guy!

  • I really like this one... Much better than Surfin' Bird. That one's just too... noisy.

  • These guys are great, oldie

  • Huh. Thats odd. There seems to be an absence of a certain ornithological piece.

  • dit dit dit !!! love it t his song is before my time and im 42 but i remember hearing it on the radio like from 5yrsold and i still love it

  • surfin' bird is made up of two different songs. this song and the bird is the word.

  • @themisterspaceman Thank you. I was just about to explain it.

  • Comment removed

  • The sad part for me is that I remember these songs from when they first came out > Yes I am that old !

  • BEFORE..... THE BEACH BOYS !

  • @Vincenteloco

it was The Trashmen that that ripped off this song, not The Beach Boys

  • i would like to point out that this is only one half of the song we know from family guy....the song family guy covers is the trashmen - bird surfin which is actually comprised of parts from this song and the bird is the word by the rivingtons...jsut saying

  • @altvater88 it's not bird surfin it's surfin bird dumb ass

  • @robertlamb178 not the point

  • just love it

  • In Family Guy, they were talking about the bird, ie the song Surfin Bird.Surfin Bird was based off this song

  • Ooohhhhhh Baaaayyyyy-bbbeeee! so good to find a little music that still matters!

  • LUX et IVY sont allés à cette école et ça les a crampés direct. Merci les CRAMPS!!!

  • lol if i never saw family guy i would have never known this :D

  • It's a quartet of Jimmie "J.J." Walkers.

  • @GregDad100

    Good one!!! Now that's funny.

  • Sumo, Argentinian band from the 80's used this song in the beggining and chorus of their own, "La rubia tarada" (The stupid blonde) Check it out here in youtube.

  • thumbs up if you knew this song before family guy! (:

  • @realgone23 not the same song

  • @realgone23 You're confusing this song with 'Surfin Bird' by the Trashmen which was used in Family guy

  • @realgone23 Where is this in family guy i only know the surfin bird was in therer

  • @xXHelloMrMartianxX Surfin bird = The bird is the word + Papa ooma mow mow

  • @realgone23 I knew this song from the raisins! :D

  • @realgone23 ...This song wasn't on Family Guy. Surfing Bird by The Trashmen was on Family Guy. They sort of ripped off this song a another song called "Bird's the Word" both by The Temptations.

  • @TheLoverOfMovies The Temptations, or The Rivingtons?

  • @billionshadows I meant The Rivingtons... I must have been thinking about the Temptations for some reason... but yeah.

  • @realgone23 this song wasn't on family guy. Surfin' Bird was on Family guy, which was partly based on this song

  • @realgone23 Fail

  • @realgone23 this isn't the song from family guy. that was surfin bird.

  • @realgone23 Wrong song dude, the song in family guy was The Trashmen's Surfin' Bird. It is on the other hand, this song and Birds The Word both by The Rivingtons, combined together. ^_^

  • @realgone23 TThumbs up. I loved this song way before that silly show. This song along with the Bird rules.

  • @andersport

Amen. I'm only 21, but I have the albums for both songs. Somewhere... if they weren't thrown away... >____>

  • @realgone23 I knew this song from ET the Extra Terrestrial!

  • Goulardi lives!!!

  • If you like this dandy, listen to the Edsels' 1957 piece, "Rama Lama Ding Dong," all you Doo-Wop lovers!

  • Yes it's like surfing bird!

  • @MultiKampOt No, you have it the wrong way around. The Trashmen combined this song and 'The Bird is the Word' to create 'Bird is the Word'

  • WHAT A MUSIC. BEFORE WAS GREAT

  • Suddenly i wanna get high

  • Full Metal Jacket!

  • Don't you know that the bird is the word?

  • love the doo-wop

  • I'm 46 and there was shit music back then as there is shit music today There was awesome music back then as there is awesome music today. Is this a new thing, by the way, do we now have to provide our age?

  • @triumphoverevil I agree 100%, I'm 16 and I listen to a HUGE range of music time wise. I go from modern like sick puppies for example, and I'm in love with primus. I'll also go from blockhead to them crooked vultures and so on. In my opinion, Listening to the contrasts gives off different feelings and/or sets different moods. People in these days stick with current or the new wave of mainstream music. I absolutely would love to abolish that, I still believe in the "oldie but a goodie" phrase.

  • @xXxbwelitexXx Great comment and so true about the contrasting feelings and moods, well said. Primus by the way Awesome my 18 yo son introduced me to them... I was blown away

  • @triumphoverevil You are right, completely. Only back then, you didn't have to search as hard for the good stuff, labels were more artistic, and ran by music lovers.

  • @triumphoverevil How can you say that this is "shit music" when it so painfully obvious that you don't know shit? I have shoes older than you, punk.
