@nanokid10 good question. internet would be my best guess cause i've never seen a place that sells stilts off the shelf. Though any place that i've walked Drywalls, Jaywalkers, Bigfoots (like these in the video), or powerskips... the company that i worked for provided them. But i know you CAN get powerskips offline, so that'd be the first place to try, but i'm not aware of any website.
omg, im learning stilt walking and dont c myself ever being able to do this.. i can kinda squat on them so maybe its doable. but not in my heavy ass drywall stilts. can this be dont on any stilt?? considering making a 2x4 set to hopefully b lighter.
@69techlover i wouldnt try it on dry wall stilts. It's nearly impossible. Really the only way to do it is on Bigfoots (like i have on) or on JayWalkers which are very similar to bigfoots. I dont know where you can order them though. I got these from the entertainment company i worked for.
This trick is do-able b/c the foot plate controls the bottom of the stilts, allowing toe and heel control. This allows me to control my balance as i lean backwards as well as pull up.
@69techloverbtw, unfortunately i think my company, as well as disney are the only two company in possession of these kinds of stilts, and they run around 2,500 USD a pair :-/
Bigfoots are the best! I wish they were available to outsiders! I was trained at Disney but never had a chance to perform. I think I'm about to get a pair of Powerisers or Air-Trekkers for fun.
@FreonUWP i trained at disney as well! but like you never performed. honestly i didnt want to though. they dont pay enough. i took what skill i had to outside contractors and made a lot there.
@wmcs11 understandable. with practice and the right supervision i'm sure you could get it eventually :) Problem i only know a handful of guys in the world that can do it.
I've been on most types, drywall, bigfoot, powerskips etc, just to see how they felt.
I've always worked on wooden pegs apart from short stints on aluminum pegs as backups.
I use 1 inch square hickory that I get milled and dryed and strength tested for me.
Having them so thin means that the weight is right down. I use them hard, I put sideways stress on them with some of my dance vocab but as thin as they are they stand up to harsh treatment and are really light.
@winsomecowboy nice to meet you martin. Thanks for the compliment at the end. I have a question for you. You use peg stilts in your performances dont you? Perhaps drywalls or hybrids even? Have you ever walked on bigfoots before? Or perhaps jaywalkers? I dont disagree with you about the knees going in a few years, especially performing tricks of this magnitude. Trust me i know. I walked stilts and performed martial arts for years and as a result blew my right knee out.
my disagreement came as to when you said that i'm leaning forward b/c of my foot placement. and that i was leaning forward to compensate. These stilts are designed to allow you to have total control of yourself, allowing you to lean back, touch the floor, and hold it for as long as your body will allow. Or grab your stilts, and spin, such as you did in your video, but do with more control. Perhaps spin faster and longer, using your CALF not your thigh. There are a lot of differences.
@trashbash2001 aslo if i might add, though you can do a lot of the same tricks on pegs that you can do on bigfoots, bigfoots give you more support doing these tricks and also show a more natural walk making them better for character and guest interaction gigs
I respectfully disagree. This trick is exceptional in that it allows you to exploit your lower center of gravity at the expense of your knees, I'm just pointing out that as someone who's spent 27 years exclusively as a stilt professional and seen exactly this move over 20 years ago on 1 meter pegs that this move shortens your potential stilt career.
Because your knees will go. The design of the stilt is immaterial. You'll get up to 7 years of this move tops.
@winsomecowboy The foot placement on my stilts has nothing to do with why i'm leaning forward. Its due to the fact that i'm holding a 10 lbs stilt behind my head, and thats what ur body naturally does when performing that trick. My foot is exactly where it needs to be.
I doubt Stalker Stilt theatre has been using these type of stilts since the 80's seeing as (to my knowledge) they came out in the early-mid 90's and only my company and one other (disney) has a partnership with the patent owner.
where can someone get jaywalker stilts?

for some reason youtube is not letting me respond to you with a lengthy message. please check your page.

As to the leaning forward being weight related, fine.
My point is that if each shoe was balanced to cope with your full weight and centered then weight would not be an issue.
you want background my real name is martin ewen.
You are doing good stuff.

It looks good however you put it into your common stilt movement vocab and your knees will last a couple of years tops.
Your center of gravity is lowered to round your upper thigh on stilts the strain you put on your ligaments cannot be defended against.
Stalker stilt theatre were doing this stuff in the 80's.
The move in the studio at the end shows that your footplate or the shoe is back a little too far. You are leaning forward to compensate.
Good stuff just don't burn your joints out.
