@HospitalCase201 ummm, no. owl city may just seem like it's talking about two people laying on a beach getting tans and sunburns. but thats just a small metaphor for the big meaning. the sunblock is like preparing for life. then they both live life and learn. the girl does well in life, but the guy doesn't. hence, the 'tan' (a good thing) and the sunburn (a bad thing). face it, owl city is soooo much more powerful, emotional, deep, and meaningful than rock.

Same reason why people dislike the lyrics of Friday. Very literal. You might as well show a picture of the lyrics written out on a sheet of paper.

However, what takes more creativity and ingenuity is to have a more distant relationship to the music, perhaps to the feeling of the song rather than the individual words. Think like the official Owl City videos.

I like this video as it is (despite being literal), but making a more tangential music video might be a nice artistic goal.
