  • I loved the max face. He always show my expressions around the game. When you fly around you feel just like him. WOAHEY!

  • Watched Death Race 2000 (1975 version) last night which reminded me of the game. It's about time they released a version of this on the PS3!!!! One of my favourite all time games ever.

  • This is the first Lazy Game Review I ever saw.

Now I'm even more glad I've played this game

  • How do you feel about "Carmageddon Reincarnation" coming out in 2012? :O

  • I played this when I was 12-14 years old :D

  • Man, I have had way too many hours with Carmageddon and Carmageddon TDR ( even though it was not remotely as good as the original ).

  • its kind of dumb how they say this comment has receive too many negative votes, when all thats gonna do is make people click on it!!

  • Awesome game, I remember it well...

  • Wow just by watching this makes me wanna play it all over again! Agree on Carpocalypse Now its amazing game, still have it installed on my PC! Shame game developers wouldnt get their brains together and release something new for 360 or Ps3 but with the same feel and style like Carmageddon. There was Blood Drive and Gear Grinder but they werent as epic as this one! Now ima go squash some pedestrians too!

  • Out of curiosity, how is TDR 2000?

  • @MrDevlance It's called being human and making mistakes. Oops.

Also, why do people get all up in arms over small mistakes of random individuals online, like they never make mistakes themselves and can't understand how anyone could? These videos are a hobby, nothing serious. The odd misstep happens, and besides, they're called LAZY game reviews for a reason.

  • @MrDevlance Brilliant! I'll take the name change into consideration, thanks for the contribution.

  • @phreakindee That was a pretty funny making fun of mrdevlance. Your reviews are the best I've watched, and i don't really care if there's a mistake somewhere, as long as it's an awesome review like all your others.

  • @phreakindee hahahaha dud i love your calm and composed attitude... :D

  • @MrDevlance Why the fuck do people make comments without having done their research properly.

Mister Devlance? WTF! Also wtf is up with LGR making mistakes?

Are you fucking serious? LGR did not make mistakes, Stainless did, sci just published it...

  • @MrDevlance this comin from a conspiracy theoreist nutjob who posts videos of UFOS. yes, i'm sure you've never been confused about anything in ur whole life either lawl

  • @MrDevlance you can correct people, but you don't have to be a dick about it

  • The buildings 6:26 look like minecraft diamonds heh.

  • @TheCrazer666 Haha, you're right!

  • I haven't played this game, but based on your description of it, you may like Death Rally. It's a similar type of game, albeit an overhead 2D action-racing game rather than one presented in 3D. It even features your hero, Duke Nukem.

  • Nice little trivia; the same people that brought you Carmageddon also brought you most of the home versions of Rodland; you know that ame that was "so cute it'll make you puke" slogan (under the name Storm/ Sales Curve, then later to just Sales Curves), Sales Curves would later be named Sales Curve Interactive and the rest is history.

  • Carmageddon: Reincarnation is being developed for digital download. It says on the site! Damn. I was hoping for a disk release.

  • “Attention all competitors: This is your one minute warning. I repeat, one minute until race commencement. Members of the public: You now have one minute to reach minimum safe distance!”

    Run, run for your life.

  • Also of note were the excellent multiplayer options. I spent almost a whole year's worth of Fridays playing with university mates over LAN in 1997 wasting each other, collecting stunning *unt bonuses, pulling instant handbrakes in the air, and running through the "wrong checkpoint!"

  • This game was fun for 20 minutes and that was about it. The maps were huge and it was easy to get a little lost or just waiting for an enemy car to drive by to destroy. There was one level that had a giant lake or somesuch and it took forever to get out of.

    The remake/sequel could be good.

  • its not Mad Mike ...it is Max Damage

  • Ever play it on Gameboy color? It sucked.

  • @phreakindee It will probably be censored with ZOmbies and green blood splatter... :(

  • You've actually convinced me to buy a dos machine just to play this

Thinking of a dandy 1000 maybe

  • @ThePKNess

    It's cfalled a Tandy 1000

  • @Alevamltd yeah I know that was a typo i didn't even notice, also at the time I was rather unenlightened as a tandy 1000 wouldn't actually run carmageddon anyway

  • @Alevamltd eah I know at the time I didn't know much about DOS computers as a Tandy 1000 isn't actually fast enough by a long way to be able to play carmegedon

  • @phreakindee I KNOW IT IS THE BEST NEWS EVAR!!! Carmageddon is my favourite racing game, and this is coming from someone who doesn't like racing games. At least not straightforward ones; I also like Twisted Metal, I guess I enjoy car games that are INSANE and causing destruction instead of just plain driving.

  • Carmageddon Reincarnation has been announced for 2012! YES!

  • @thewakkydude Wait....WHAT!!!! *Blood rages* *Has heart attack*

  • I got this game on christmas when i was kid :D

  • @phreakindee

its about time!, considering how popular and awesome this game is im surprised that no game company has picked up the title and made a new one. even change this one so it would work on win7 64 bit and reales it on steam or something.

and the games looks so nice in your video, have you tweaked it ?.

  • @Mastermind12358 Yes, I'm be up for pretty much anything at this point!

And I was running the game in its high-res mode with a 3DFX Voodoo graphics card.

  • @phreakindee

yes hehe you sad that in the video, i better watch the whole review next time before asking x).

  • lol and my mother let me play that when I was 8

  • Have you noticed at the Carmageddon website (carmageddondotcom) there's currently a countdown timer ending at the 1st of June? Does this mean Square Enix are teasing a Carmageddon 4? OH GOD YES PLEASE

  • back in the day this game would have been THE SHIT!! this game would have been incredible back then

  • I have Carmageddon 2 :P

  • My dad bought me this game when I was 8 back in 97, while everyone was playing Mario and Zelda... I was playing this, MDK and GTA baby!

  • awww it an M

  • This actually runs in windows 7 64bit, using compatibility mode.

  • @Evansmustard Not the one showed in this video - the original DOS version. Carmageddon 2 does on some systems though. Perhaps you mean a Windows port of C1...

  • @phreakindee Sorry my mistake, I found it at goodwill about a month or two ago. On the CD it says its Carmageddon Carpocalypse Now for windows 98/me/95

  • @phreakindee Carmageddon 2 flies like a little angel on Windows 7 x64, it's really masterpiece (even more famous games can't do that) :D and Carmageddon runs fine on dosbox.

  • Best.. Game.. Ever

  • haha i played this game whan i was like 6 years old xD, so fuckign awesome game.

  • Would you guys be,live I still play Carma 2? Modded and with better gfx it rocks ass above other games.

  • how do you get the game to run so smooth, its all laggy for me

  • Is it possible to run this game on Vista? I haven't played it in a long time and it'd be nice to revisit it.

  • @spiderjerusalem100 You can using the DOSBox emulator.

  • @phreakindee

    do a carmageddon 2 review :)

  • @phreakindee well dosbox is usefull but sometimes is a little bit weird ingame

  • @samieccalfa

i used to play this when i was 7 :D

  • One known fact btw, the german version was so heavily censored that you are driving over robots who leaves oil on the pavement.

  • I loved the instrumental Fear Factory soundtrack.

  • Also have to try setting up some multiplayer game... Thru hamachi it shouldn't b e too much of a problem, methinks.

  • Also - if anyone could point me in the right deriction as to how to actually make a map from scratch for Carmageddon I, I... I'd be like eternally grateful.

  • Values around 100-150 seem very stable though and increase the gameplay value A LOT - on some maps you can actually see thy skybox now, and generally the views become more amazing if you can see the whole landscape before you, especially when flying high after some mad jump.

The thing you'll be looking for int hat config file would be the "yon" or "yon factor" - i never remember exactly, but it becomes obvious by the numbers there are near to them.

  • But... why didn't u press "+" and make the race view fill the whole screen...

Also there are some very helpful hints, like increasing the draw distance in the config file - it's basically set to around "60" and can be safely changed to around "140" - but the closer to "200", the more probable the game will crash (unfortunately).

  • The physics of this game are great. It's so fun to play.

  • only thing i remember about this game, Landing on my roof, Big confusing levels And the noise of steel!

  • is it just me or 6:22 = anal rape?

  • Hah, looks like you have the same monitor I do, nice.

  • @Topgun232 Hooray for monitor unity!

  • Of course you're not a psycho. None of us are.

    MWAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHAHAHA!!!! DIE DIE DIE!!!

    umm... sorry for that...

  • Destruction Derby 1 was great too

  • @cruzadas Nuts yeah! Although it doesn't hold a candle to Carmageddon, IMHO.

  • @cruzadas I played Destruction Derby the other day. I don't think it aged well. I'm pretty sure Destruction Derby 2 & 3 have much more to offer. It's kind of like the first Wipeout compared to Wipeout 2 or XL; very early PS games are never as good as I remember.

  • @Armandelis: With an APC xD

  • I have a question (if you dont mind me asking). How did you got the 3dfx patch to work? I'm running this game on XP but the patch only works for me when i have the Splat Pack installed.

  • @0takuMetalheadGamer I was playing this on an Pentium II machine with Windows 98SE and a Voodoo2 card installed. I then used the Voodoo2 patch to get 3DFX mode in the normal game.

  • I remember being impressed by the damage model at the time. Real-time deformation just wasn't something that racing games had back then, and you could really bend the cars into some fantastic shapes by smashing them up.

  • My favourite thing to do always is wasting cops.

    Anyone done it?

  • What's a John-ray?

  • You are so true in this review. When I was at school some friends and I used to play this all the time, it brings me many good memories (both the first one and splat pack). Hell, even my neighbor played this. It was really famous. Then the second part came out, but sadly I didn't have a 3dcard. And that was when my friend bought the first 3dcard I remember using, a banshee. I really remember that day.

  • One honestly wonders how such games as Carmegeddon, even with their insanely satisfying and solid gameplay, got rated M by the ESRB instead of AO for wanton violence?

  • @Expack3 AO is only for pornography content, I think.

  • @Expack3 heh, In the UK, SCi wanted to raise awareness of the game so submitted it to the BBFC(uk films rating board) even though since it didn't have any film footage in it, they didn't have to, but the BBFC refused to classify it unless they removed ALL the blood and gore, 10 months later after SCi appealing the original version eventually got rated 18+

  • Hey, I was looking around for videos on this game, and luckily you made one! This game looks...fun! And thanks for mentioning the N64 version is horrible, because I had thought of trying that one. Although...now I want to try it just to see the horribility for myself. :)

  • I just wanted to mention, that your viewers (including me of course) would surely be happy to see a LGR of Carmageddon 2! :)

  • @KaySaschnitt Thanks for the input! A review of C2 will happen for sure, it's high on my list of favorite racers period.

  • OMG I remember this as one of the first games ive ever played!!!

I was like 5 or something!!!

  • Multiplayer mode for the winner!

  • This and Camageddon 2 were amongst the best games ever made. Loved the physics and replay mode.

  • Epic game. All of them actually. Tho' IDK if I would want to see a new one, these days Flatout, Burnout, Split/Second are just too good...

  • your intro sounds like the SID chip in a C64 hehe

  • mmm my favorite racing game. i will always keep returning to it. there is something so wonderful about it that can't be explained with words. and of course great review!

  • Brazil banned carmageddon

  • End of the Splat Pack Tracks... I remember you drive into hell and meet the devil. HELL YEAH!!!

  • Amazing times.

  • lol i shit myself at 3:41 even thow i knew it!!

  • aaw yeah! i love carmageddon 2. there are tons of mods if you feel the game lacks content, too. TDR 2000 is pretty good but not as good as the second game. best part of carmageddon 2 is that you can see the cars that you have destroyed. doesn't sound very cool but the damages are crazy.

  • Can you play this on Vista? Is there a patch or something?

  • @g0uveia1

Yes you can, with a free program called DosBox

Don't forget to donate $ or two to the dosbox team if you like their software :)

  • I NOSTALGIA'D SO HARD!! anyone know how i can play this game on vista? got any download link? I would appreciate it very much!

    thanks for the review!

  • Your reviews are unnaturally/unnecessarily long, brah. Otherwise, not bad.

  • I wholeheartedly agree. Even though I do prefer part 2, there is something special about the first Carmegeddon that I love. How do you feel about the third installment?

  • @MindlessMiles The 2nd one is gold, absolutely my favorite of the series without a doubt. And don't get me started on TDR2000... lame missions, annoying game engine, bugs, and annoying AI made me hate that game. I've tried hard to enjoy it many, many times over the years and can't bring myself to like it that much. Maybe on its own it would be okay, but it pales in comparison to 2 and 1

  • i remember this game when i was a kid nice review just downloaded the game after this review but i cant do it graphics are to old

dam when i was a kid i was like wow best graphics ever but that was a while ago =(

  • yah this game amazing

  • this game and the sequel kick raw ass!

  • i hate intros

  • good review, nice to hear someone else talk about it with the same passion. I did not know that story about the development of the game and how they kept changing it. I loved the original with the 3dfx patch. my only issue was that the game was very buggy and would crash every couple of levels especially if i kept going into the quick replays (which i did because it was always so funny watching death from the peds view - something you didnt show any examples of in the video).

  • Just seen something interesting.. In your review you named "Mad Mike" as the male driver (red car). In my version of the game and referenced on line his name is "Max Damage". Not exactly sure if its a mistake or you simply have a different version of the game then any one els. lol

  • Der. You got it, it's Max Damage. No idea what happened!

  • I still have the disc, but have no idea how to play it on my new pc.

  • Great review, I still occasionally play this and Carmageddon II on my old pc

  • Good review mate!

  • Best game series, ever. PERIOD! (Except TDR2000)

It also wasn't made by SCi, it was created by Stainless Software, both the original and the incomplete sequel (Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now!) were Stainless Software creations, the third installment (TDR2000) was a Torus Games creation and was awful, boring and lacks the ability to create your own maps for it.

  • Ah yes, my bad, I meant "published by"

  • @WarriorRazor Not if you downloaded mods for it, it became kind of awesome

  • So I guess I owe you an apology, mr. Phreakindee! I am sorry, I thought of that too late that it might actually HAVE been the game's actual soundtrack there on the background. Never mind my criticism then, it's just a great and inspiring review!

  • Btw, I just had to play this game after viewing this review.. then I played Carmageddon II later on that day. What superbly awesomely great and humorous games! It's so funny to watch people get splattered all over the place especially with 'helium filled zombies' (or people - I have a weird version which says 'zombies' but has red blood and human characters, though 'zombie' is pretty descriptive for the regular human anyway..)

  • Haha, how very true about the human/zombie connection, especially the working-class citizens you see in the game...

That's very odd there would be a version like that which refers to zombies yet with red blood, don't think I've ever seen that.

  • INTERPLAAAAAAY!!!!

  • Another great review! The only thing that disturbs me personally is the heavymetal background music you have sometimes when you talk about a game. Urgh. Why would you need any music while you are talking anyway? You could use the game's music and sounds while talking if you really must have something. Otherwise, wonderful review, I feel exactly the same about this game - the rawness is just so great, but I love the sequel a bit more in a bit different way.

  • The music -IS- actually the soundtrack of the game, directly ripped from the audio tracks on my CD. It's why I used it. Otherwise, I wouldn't use metal for my reviews, but this one felt appropriate for it, since it was the music from the game.

I see your point though, and it is a bit distracting honestly. Still, I use music at low volumes to set a certain tone. Still, it doesn't always work for everyone's taste!

  • Yes, I thought about that after I wrote that and remembered this game has really awfully distorted musics, hehe. I think you used metal in some video on the background on your speech too, so then I wasn't sure if it was just your taste in music or just that the game musics -are- that type. You are right, you can never please everyone, and I don't mean my criticisms in any bad vibe, I just like to give criticism with the compliments so it balances out..

  • Oh my goodness. I've remember this game when I was 9 till 13 i've played carmageddon 2.

  • *GASP*!! CARMAGEDDON! YAAAAAHHH yeaaahhhhhh!! Oh goodness, I had no idea you were going to review this wonderful, great, splendid, superbly awesome game! Oh man, I can't wait to stop typing this and start watching this video! (-8

  • Carmageddon is on of my favorite games. Some of carma 2's levels are really hard and dumb.

  • You really do have to play both of them to get the full experience, IMO. I love them both, and each of them have their strengths. C2 for sure had some annoying and stupid levels/missions though, and that's my biggest complaint about the game. I love how C1 just had pure deathmatch-style racing, without the stupid interludes between track sets.

  • So are trolls.

  • Thank you so much for the review! I love that game! It's a must-have and must-play.

  • I remember this but for some reason I remember playing Carmageddon with much crappier graphics. It was also 'overhead' as if you were looking down at it

Or maybe that was GTA? Haha they get mixed up in my head so often xD

    Another great review!

  • Haha, yes that's GTA! They are both quite similar in some ways, now that I think about it... both from the same time period too.

  • I love Carmageddon 2 however the one thing is weird atleast that I noticed is that the soundtrack is like 3 iron maiden songs. I mean its cool but there should be more than three songs only on a whole video game soundtrack.

  • And Excellent game :)

  • Excellent review!!!

  • I know this is extremely nitpicky, but Eidos is pronounced "Eye-DOS", not "E-Os" Sorry. :P

Great video, I'll definately try to check out this game. You mentioned that the American version is the uncensored version, so was it censored in Europe or something? Is it worth tracking the American version because of it?

  • Ah, somehow I totally forgot to mention that. Yes, some Euro/UK versions were censored and replaced the red blood with green slime and the peds with zombies and aliens.

  • Haha, I collect games too, just like as you. I have this game (UK censored edition) and wanted actually mainly on ebay uncensored version, Carmageddon splat pack & Carmageddon 2 uncensored & censored versions :)

  • Very nice. I have the uncensored UK edition of Carmageddon 2 myself. I got it because I like the box better than the American one!

  • I see ABUSE on your shelf! Please review that when you get a chance ^_^

  • That's a game that is certainly on my list to review, so don't you worry!

  • Man it was a blast to play this a long time ago. I remember how much fun it was to play this game. It's defenatly not a kids game, but did I care? NO. >:D

I have played both Carmageddons and I totally recomend it... of course if your old enough to play it. I wish I would have either one on my computer.

Thank you for this video. You brough back some fine memories.

  • Awesome review there phreakindee!

I remember playing Carmageddon at my friends house a lot years ago.

  • Three cheers for Lazy Games.
