I honestly believe that Babe Ruth could not have success today. Why? Because look at his swing. The most important thing we were told in AA ball was quick bat speed. If you didn't have it, you had no shot at hitting. Well, Ruth's swing is very long. He takes a very long leg kick instead of a step like they do today, he cocks his bat with a long loopy motion. Back then, they didn't throw 97 consistently. They threw 88-91. You can disagree but, in all honesty, it's just my opinion.
By the way, I really believe that Charlie Roots was full of shit. Saying that if The Babe showed him up by pointing to the outfield he would "put one in his ear (LOL!) and knock him on his ass". Well, The Babe was easily pointing at something out there. And unless there was some nutty-ass cubs fan with a small mirror or small piece of glass out there shining it in his eye, he WAS pointing to the seats--calling his shot. No doubt about it. And Charlie Roots never nailed him in his ear! :D LOL...
Man! It must've felt so good for that man to do that to those crummy-ass cubbies back in '32! The team and those so-called "friendly fans" of the "Friendly Confines" shouted racial slurs at the man, AND the fans supposedly threw lemons at him (as portrayed in the pretty good 1992 bio-flick, "The Babe"). :D
I'm tellin' 'ya, man--the '32 Series is the REAL "Curse of the Bambino" (fruity-ass beano-town's was "The Curse of the DEAD-sox management"!). The Cubs will NEVER win a world championship!
Charlie Root (the pitcher) met Ruth a few years later and said "you know, you didn't call that shot". The Babe said "I know, but this makes a better story". Root said "if you did, I would have thrown it right down your throat."
The wimps of today would issue intentional walks to Babe just as the did to B. Bonds in his latter [juiced] days. Can't smoke a smoke, the stadium announcer is a female and rap music played between innings Not to mention the phoney God Bless America interlude.
@TWOhits6 Jealous Because He is a billionare Even tho he's Dead? and he has his own Candy Bar? this MAN will have more money then you will ever have And Mark Mcquire He owns the Big mac so GTFO
@TWOhits6 Talk to me when you Grow up and become Mature and If i killed my self you would be but in prison because you were the last to talk to me so please grow up
The player who was physically closest to Ruth in that moment was Cubs catcher Gabby Hartnett. Hartnett later stated that Ruth did not in fact call his home run. Instead, he said that Ruth bellowed, “That’s only two strikes,” while pointing at the Cubs dugout.
I think he was making a gesture saying something like let me do my thing because at 0:20 he looks at the thirdbase direction and make another gesture at him again.
@tpalomarez01 I think they would be calling him to run faster and stop the showboating jog. Sideline coaches always say to run faster... You even see him a few seconds later signaling the 3rd base coach to back up so he could do a brisk curve onto the grass. He was showboating like a boss :D
Almost all of the video retrospects of the Bambino's alleged called shot are idiotic. This one is easily the dumbest because of its brainless film editing. The most diabolical visual bit is the three ugly brats at 0:29-0:31. As far as I'm concerned, the Bambino probably used the middle digit and not his index finger.
