I need to point out, however, that this movie was totally embellished. He didn't retire after the game where he hit three home runs; he actually played a few more weeks after that. And I highly doubt this bit with the hospital kid ever really happened.
This is one of my favorite scenes in movie history. It's really sad how cold the heart of man is. The "suits" loved Babe Ruth while he was in his prime, and then treated him like trash when he struggled. That's kind of the story of human nature: love em' while they got it, and spit on them when they struggle. And people wonder why i've lost ALL faith in humanity. Anyway, thanks for posting this scene mate. Great scene with The Bate and Johnny Sylvester.
I was shoping for groceries two days before Tjanksgiving in Metarie, La. and ran into John Goodman. I almost fainted. He is the biggest man that I have ever seen. Not unattractive, but goodness was he big!
