I remember The Incredible String Band and one time had one of their cool albums. Lost it in a fire though. Haven't heard anything from them since though. Thanks, Rachel, I hope your wounded puppets are doing better today!
glad you enjoyed the video. Just not convinced about its 'Jesusanity'- i'm a jew! i attended Christian schools asa kid & was taught that Jesus sprang the principles of love and justice on a world that had never before known such things. apparently His dad, God of the Jews, forgot to mention these cornerstones of spirituality to us OT Jews. this attitude that christians often tacitly uphold, of somehow having attained a higher moral ground than other faiths through faith in Jesus offends me.
I feel and respect that your journey too has confronted you with spiritual, intellectual and somatic oppression. Mine have been different from yours in the minutia. But I think in the end we are as alike as different. I profess not superiority nor inferiority to any person, including Jesus.
spiritual oppression? me? my spirit is undaunted. intellectual oppression? actually, i've been gifted with the ability to think and, with a great educational foundation. plus i READ, which makes of me an independent scholar for life. somatic oppression i can relate to, some. i live with chronic disease and pain-- and poverty-- on a somatic level this is indeed oppressive, but it doesn't make me feel any more superior or inferior than you feel.
i feel and respect your journey as well, EOeT. i could tell when i read your channel profile that you're my kinda spiritual seeker, we've read alot of the same christian mystics, in truth, i'm delighted with you and interested in the progression of your ideas. i just make inroads where i can, challenging the christian assumption that accepting jesus-as-savior somehow trumps all other paths to eternity. jesus as farout hippie, and as meshpuchah (yiddish for part of the family, kin) works for me.
furthermore, if given a choice, love or fear, who wouldn't rather love? nonetheless love and fear are not opposed elements in my psyche- not at all. they co-exist handily and one does not negate or cancel out the other.
hmmm where did my response to this comment go? i tried to tell you earlier, hh, thanks muchly for visiting and, doncha know the neighborhoods of make believe and making do are right next door to each other!
I always hear a lot about the lower class and corruption in the government and how few they care about serious people with serious issues...It's always about the working class, and I may get the interpretations mixed up every-so-often and get something other than what the artist intended, but I enjoy the idea and the sound that I get from your art.
thanks for that very thoughtful response. wow! when i make videos it always surprises me as much as anyone else what actually happens in them. the "message" element seems to creep in of its own accord. the beauty of art is that it's not only open to interpretation, the eye (and/or ear) of the beholder is essential, absolutely required to give a work of art any life of its own, any meaning. the works of art i love the most keep revealing new and different meanings over time.
That is an aspect of great art, and in your work, I find that it does reveal various meanings the more you hear it or go over it. Art such as yours is rare, and sadly unappreciated by most because people do not want to hear a message or own up to any truth, but it should be valued, it's beautiful.
thank you! it vexes me that when i upload to youtube it deteriorates the visuals so much and jacks with the timing. i don't know how to deal with that. since a lot of the visual input is illustrative or riffing on specific phrases in the song, from an editor's standpoint this is really troublesome... but somehow the piece manages to knit itself back into sync at least few times, so all is not lost...
this one was just weird. lord knows what prompted me to start it-- tinySpectacle mentioned she loves the incredible string band and i think that got me going-- but every few minutes as i worked on it i'd be fairly stumped, unsure quite where to take it next, and then ideas would flood in. it took four days to produce, during which i teetered between dismay and delight with the project as a whole. i'm glad people like it now... i'm still not sure what i think except i love norm's part. he rocks!
thank you jana... did i mention that your english pronunciation on the hesse readings was perfectly lovely? yay for multilingualism! it's amazing how there's actually a movement in this country to make americans even more willfully ignorant of other languages?! such dumbing down, tsk tsk!

What an excellent way to tell a story. The casting, the lyrics, the production--all compelling.
