My heart goes out to all of them but especially Mark. I identify so much with him. My last day of drinking, three weeks ago, was just like we see him here. It's heartbreaking. I hope he managed to stay sober, and that Vanda found peace with sobriety eventually. I wish them all the strength in the world. RIP Toni and Nigel. An excellent documentary. Please, show it to teenagers,
I was so glad to see that Mark got into recovery. I hope he still is and that Vanda finds her way there, too. Doesn't have to be AA but it has worked for a lot of people. Whatever one's problems are with it, it's infinitely better than the lives these people are leading.
"What would stop you drinking?" A pill that makes you feel happy. Or plenty of exercise. I'm not being flippant, but that is what worked for me. I had to realise I had a drink problem first to get to that point though.
Such an important documentary I would also love to know how Vanda and Mark are doing now... Also, although I've written this on all the other parts... everyone should see the film "The Lost Weekend". An incredible film about alcoholism from 1945.
Some people myself included must not touch the stuff. Lots of A.A. does work, and actually a better life awaits, even better than the life before alcoholism.Well done Paul Watson we need that graphic detail as a reminder, never to go back there. I wonder how Mark is now. My heart goes out to the families of those in the documentary, and anyone who is currently suffering with this disease.
Having just watched your film in it's entirety, I would like to congratulate you on making a sensitive, incredible piece. Coming from an alcoholic family myself, I found it hard to watch at times but equally important to watch. M
very moving documentary,i think this should be showen to children in schools before the age of 13 to teach them the dangers of alcohol.i myself am a recovering alcoholic and think the sooner we teach children the better.good lick to mark on his recovery, its long and hard but worth it in the end.after begining recovery you CANT have just one drink,it just doesnt work.stay alcohol free and you can lead a normal life.im living proof!!!
extremely fascinating and touching documentary, i'm sure this will affect a lot of peoples lives, hopefully for the better, in my view this should be shown in all schools for teenagers, maybe without the bad language though, thanks for taking trouble to upload all this snowskate, regards and good luck from bungalowlegs, west yorks
im goin through this battle now and it aint 1 bit easy the vicious cycle of waking up feeling shit and having crazy panic attacks thinking my heart is going to explode drinking to calm down hiding drink around my house making excuses to my parents and its hurting them seen me hurting i am making an effort tho its just really hard drugs and alcohol fucked me up i hope to find some inner peace and never have to go through this hell again. aa rr it dont matter the only person who can stop is me.
Read Allen Carr's book "Easy way to stop drinking". It puts EVERYTHING into perspective. Easy read and a real eye-opener. You will never want to drink again.

@aliagora I quit drinking for 6 months with that book on my own. I'm back on it now, but I have never looked at drinking the same way again. I'm going to read the book again. If I go another 6 months without drinking, it'll be worth it. I think I just need the information to stick with me a bit more.
Yes! Thats what finally sank through to me! I found Rational Recovery 8 years ago and Ive drank twice since. With AA I never stayed clean a full year. Rational recovery works for me because you do it yourself and dont depend on a higher power. Also none of this one day at a time stuff, you put it down and you leave it down.
I hope this film has managed to help somebody. My mother and father are both alcoholics and amazingly still alive but I know it's too late for them to change their ways.If you're watching this because you have a problem with alcohol and you have children either stop boozing or put your kids into care because they don't deserve to feel your suffering.
@forestskog My mum's 58 and dad 71. Mum is definitely the worst - she hasn't left the house in years and barely eats but she can still get through a litre + of vodka a day. Since my last post my dad appears to have cut back a lot which is promising but he's still the one who buys all the booze. I hope your parents find the strength to quit.
Thank you for showing the true nature of Alcoholism. I needed to watch these 10 videos because I am probably/ most likely in denial and trying to use will power, It's not working.
All i need to say is that..........there before the grace of god go I. My sister is alcoholic and i feel she's now coming to the end of her journey. This video really tells the truth, and shows the pain that the individual, family and friends go through. Let us show this to kids in primary schools....health care lessons, stop them binging please.
This is so depressing. Alcohol causes so many problems. I've experienced some first hand in my family. Its probably the number one reason why I myself don't drink. The number of drinks I've had in the past 5 years can seriously be counted on one hand.
If you are an atheist and have an iq over 85, you can interpret the 'higher power' aspect into whatever works for you. You'd think even the simple minded would understand that.
Getting drunk is abusing alcohol don't ya think? The video is showing what getting drunk can lead to. If you aren't as bad as the people in this documentary, it doesn't mean that you don't have a problem. I can see how you might interpret AA as cultish, but all groups are different. AA is one of many resources to help people quit drinking. Lighten up dude =)
AA will say its the only way and in a sense I sort of begrudge them for that.If I would have been exposed to RR before I maybe would not have went through as much shit! The final blow for me,dont know why this hit home but I woke up with a smashed ankle(now it has plate and pins in it)having no idea how it happened.I twisted it several more times trying to get somewhere!

wonderful documentary, and what wonderful brave people who took part as this is such a shameful and stigmatized subject still.

What is missing is that you can give up alcohol, but you need something else..Why many of us fail is what is that something else`?

Because so many of us like to drink, documentaries like this one are rarely made and hardly ever seen on TV. It's the unpleasant shame we all feel.

Amen to that. This really should be shown in school. It would have made a major impact on my brothers, husband and I as kids.
