  • I have to say that I totally agree with you last year I did all right with the stock coil on my etrac, but I did switch to a 10x12 SEF and I have found an 1781 reale, 1729 King George II, a merc, a couple of shield nickles great coil.

  • "Unbelievable" & "Wow" - I think you got that right! What an awesome find - Spanish Silver. 1788 - a legendary moment - relive it it a lot when you tell anyone who asks about your hobby. Well filmed too! Cheers.

  • You make some great videos! By the way, if you cut larger plug circumferences and flip them over, you'll have a better chance of getting your coins out without scratches. Thanks for the great hunts.

  • Dan you should be very proud of that one. I have yet to dig one. My brother dug a 1783 half reale this summer though. My oldest american coin is a 1833 half dime. So you got me beat by 50 years. Congratulations.

    John

  • Nice coin! I bet you would have been happy to see a seated coin, let alone a spanish reale. Good job!

  • I'd love to find a Seated Liberty coin! Haven't found one yet.

GO E TRAC AND THE 10X12 BUTTERFLY COIL. LATER. JD

  • Nice finds OhioCoinHunter!!!

That Carolous III coin could have been minted in Mexico, because... the picture you found of that coin had the Mexico City Mint Mark on the back after the reading "HISPAN ET IND REX ... then should be the mint mark "M" with an "o" on top, but it is vanished in your coin.

    Regards,

    Greetings from Mexico!!!

  • WTG on the Spanish silver and yet another cool silver thimble.

  • Awesome and super don`t decribe this video ! I can`t put into words my comment . i think evrybody else has said it for me. Your not lucky, you have right tools to find a coin like that and it couldn`t have happen to a better person. Excellent job and good luck on your next hunt. Again Dan Congrats on a great find even the thimble is a great find. God Bless and i hope you have a restful night of sleep.

  • Yulelah, thanks so much for the good words. Happy Hunting!

  • Nice !

  • OMG.....What an awsome find Dan, that;s one to be very proud of. what did it read? I can't wait to feel what you must have felt when you saw the date. A huge congrats to you my friend..

  • At 5 inches deep it read 12-44. I thought it was going to be either a memorial (because I just dug one close to that spot) or a clad dime. When I saw the date I just couldn't believe it. I was shocked.

  • Dan, It is just incredibly rare to find anything 1700's in Ohio. Congrats my friend, this one will be hard to beat! Hell, it isn't even my coin and I stopped the video to do the happy dance in the middle of the room for you. Then I watched the video again, just to make sure I hadn't imagined it. Wow......I just don't know what else to say, that is just one incredible find!

It could't have happend to a better guy!

    Tim

  • Thanks, Tim. I'm still in a state of shock. That coin was dropped before Ohio was a state. There were nothing but settlers, soldiers and indians here then. Ohio was wild frontier. It's a rare find. I do know that a spanish gold coin was found two miles north of that site. So they are around.

  • Hang on mate, it was quite common for old silver coins to be legal tender right up to the 1900s, so why could it not have been kept, say as a toke or keepsake, and then dropped over a hundred years after it was minted, say in 1888? You have to consider that, nice find though,

    vespasian from uk

  • I've been wondering how that old coin came to be in that spot. Yeah, it certainly could have been dropped much later than when it was minted. I'm sure if that reale could talk, it would have quite a tale to tell. Thanks, Vespasian12345.

  • Great hunt.That's a awesome old silver coin.Congrats!

  • Fantastic Reale! That is such a neat find WTG! I know I'll never find a coin that old unless I head east or go to Europe somewhere. You are having a great start to 2010. By the way like your hat, I visited the RRHofF around four years ago what a special place. HH

  • Way to go buddy ...You deserve it ..after the E-trac died last year it's good to see the great day you have had ..wish you many more and HH

  • Awesome Dan!!

Thats A Reale Good Find LOL!!
