  • Do you keep all your baits close to bottom, or do you stagger your depths?

  • @koawaconorth , I have staggered the depth of the baits, but most time I get lazy and 90% of the time I just let the sinker hit the bottom and then turn the reel once or twice to tighten the line a little. The drag is set very loose so the fish can snatch and run. The two oz weight seems to be enough to "set" the circle hook. When the bait clicker starts singing, we tighten the drag and then start reeling :-)

  • i feel bad for the fish... but good catch! :)

  • @Way2CoolXD Thanks for the comment. Happy holidays !

  • Did y'all catch that 7-8 pounder near the island by the boat ramp?

  • Panttera, Yes, we had drifted past the face of Beaver Islands about 500 yds out when the bait clicker started screaming... gott'a love that sound : - )

  • Cool!

  • you should try some live bait instead of cut bait. The more mature fish usually dont eat the cut / dead bait. they prefer the live ones more.

  • Guru, Thanks for the suggestion. We went out MLK day but couldn't catch any shad - but you can bet as the water warms up this spring, we will be catching and using live perch and shad. Thanks again for the tip. Have a great spring !
