  • Two years ago, the BBC aired a tribute to Victoria Wood, including a selection of her best sketches across the years. A selection of celebrities were interviewed who were known to be VW fans. Who knew Michael Ball can recite entire sketches word perfecct? The interviews then jumped to Richard E Grant, whose favourite VW line is "We think we've got hens in the skirtingboard", which he found very hard to recite and broke into laughter several times. It has to be the most surreal line ever.

  • we think we've got hens in the skirtingboard

  • Victoria Wood is trying sooooo hard not to laugh at most points in this, hilarious.

  • I watch this video every night, and it still makes me laugh!

    2 comedy geniuses :)

  • Julie Walters deserves a special Bafta for her funny walks alone (1:01).

  • i love these 2. im actualy studying drama at the same uni as they did.

  • I'm 5 and a half. You're very tall do you take vitamins!

    Legendary

  • HENS IN THE SKIRTING BOARD! genius!!!!

  • ...she was like me... broad footed LOLOL

    classic

  • Classic. Love the "We think we've got hens in the skirting board" line!

If you want to see some really old classic sketches with Vic and Julie, check out the Wood and Walters dvd which has just been released at last after almost 30 years. The three plays she did such as Talent have also just been released.

  • Makes me laugh everytime and never fails. Victoria Wood and Julie Walters are so good together in any sketch. Just brilliant.

  • The best Victoria Wood sketch EVER!!! and according to the message on the back on my signed photo, one of her faves too :O)

  • My mother regretted introducing me to this show. I first saw this sketch when I was very young, and whenever I went into a shoe shop (or any shop, really) I used to scream at the top of my lungs, "LOOOOOK AT MEEEEEEE...!"

  • This is the best Victoria Wood sketch! Julie walters cracks me up!!

    "I'm 5 and a half"

..."you're very tall for 5 and a half...do you take vitimins..?"

    hahahaha

  • "We think we've got hens in the skirting board!" ... haha!

... Julie Walters = My Idol!!

  • Ah classic! sooooo funny....

  • "Can I try on the black lace ups in the window?"

"Well you can but everyone in the street will be able to see you!"

    Classic!!

    Absolutely love this sketch!

  • "I know, I can never get what I want when I go shopping!"

"Well, he's not my husband, but he rubbed up against me in a sports jacket, so he's as good as!"

  • So you can STUFF IT!!! Ha then her wig nearly falls off. I've seen this many times but its alway hilarious!

  • Iconic sketch. A masterpiece.

  • I burst out laughing when she breaks off the heels! "Flatter Now"...Julie is hilarious!

  • Lol - great to see this

  • Hehe, the two best comedy actresses we've ever seen...and pretty damn fine serious actresses too!!!!!! Love them!

  • laaaav it, am doing this sketch for my drama competition :) i love when she runs across all the shoes :L xxx

  • Not seen this before ! Utter madness and utterly hilarious !

  • Flatter now! Ha Ha

  • The way she walks back from the window after she tells the story about the skirting board ...

  • Hilarious from start to finish! What seems like total idiocy is in fact very clevery crafted humour - these two ladies are amazing. I love this sketch!!

  • i love how the shoe she puts back just after cleaning it falls, at 0:05 rofl

  • We have hens.............

    random!

  • Comedy is or can be random, in this case that's obviously impossible, and an odd thing to say, so therefore funny - the delivery seals the deal.

  • Absolutely Brilliant!! Love both of these fantastic comedians.

  • This is one of Victoria Wood's iconic sketches, simply and utterly brilliant. Those two ladies make a very formidable pair. Combining Victoria's sharp and funny writing with Julie's portrayal of 'mad' characters makes for hilarious results. NOBODY plays 'mad' like Julie Walters. When her wig slid off I burst out laughing. A most amazing pair of talents. Singly they're fantastic, but when combined they're pure gold.

  • sorry im new here why the video it'a called victoria wood..if julie play in this sketch?

is that show called victoria wood?

  • Victoria Wood is the customer in this sketch - I think she wrote this as well as lots of other comedy material, songs, etc. If you don't know her, check out her other material - she's a very funny and talented lady! One of my other favourites is the 'University interview' sketch.

  • "Well those aren't flat!"

    "Flatter now . . ."

Always makes me wet myself!!! So many great couplets and 2 ladies at the top of their game.

  • @JarvisBoots1

"Flatter Now" has to be one of the shortest funniest lines EVER!

  • Two very clever ladies!! I love the way Julie Walters can so convincingly play insane characters like this one, yet in interviews she is so natural, and seems to be a really lovely and modest person, as well as being a respected 'straight' actress, as is Victoria Wood, of course.

  • julie walters is hilarious here! i was in stitches!

  • I am laughing so hard it actually hurts!

  • Soooooo funny!

  • Lol julie walters i so so funny i never knew that she was in this until last night when my friend showed me all these vids and now i have to keep on watching them and they make me crack everytime!!!!!

  • I can quite easily imagine the uproar. Absolutely bugger all. NOBODY likes the black liquorice allsorts, they're horrible tasting. No racism involved.

  • I quite agree! The use of the word 'black' in any context makes cretins think of political correctness and rascism when really it has nothing to do with it!

    x

  • Funny As Hell

  • I met Julie Walters earlier today at a book signing for her fab new autobiografy " Thats another story "

she also signed a few Acorn Antiques the musical dvd covers and leaflets for me to aswell!

    lovely lady !!!!!!!

  • You're so lucky you met her...big fan of hers

  • FLATTER NOW!!!

SO YOU CAN FORGET IT!! *queue the hair going all over*

  • LOL! those parts are hillarious!

  • we've got hens in the skirting boards!

  • This clip was on a UK program called 'This Morning' today and I was in histerics laughin. So funny.

  • Julie Walters is the best comedy actress ever, combine that with the best female comedian and comedy writer in the country you get this sheer and utterly genius. Both are a really inspirational to me as a comedy writer myself and may they both continue working together and making us all laugh.

  • FLATTER NOW!!

  • "WELL YA CAN STUFF IT!"

    Classic. Love them!

  • I just love it when she breaks the heels off - "Flatter now!"

  • Julie's hair LOL

  • its a full on mess. she is brill. love how she trashes the stock room.

  • Greenzink = Prick! with no sense of humour!

  • "we think we've got hens in the skirting..we've found droppings by the popsox".....one of the funniest sketchshow linesever.........

  • " Can i try the shoes on in the window"

" You can but everyone in the street will be able to see you",lolol...classic

  • Victoria wood...

    one word

    legend!

  • ye very true!

  • This sketch is HILARIOUS! Victoria Wood has a fantastic knack for writing, add Julie Walters and you get the funniest comedy duo of the 80s.

  • things like this make me soooooooooooooo proud to be English it is amaing =]

  • Outstanding....thank god the Americans never understood Victoria- she's a national treasure!

Uniquely British humour.....almost make you feel quite nostalgic about the 80's in Britain, until you remember Thatcher, the miners and the IRA!

  • I feel duty bound to say..."Thank god the Americans with a retarded sense of humour and a fancy for fart jokes and a woman with no knickers on never understood Victoria."

I may be American, but I love British comedy just as much as any sane person would loathe a living Bucket woman :P

  • at least the IRA were polite terrorists.they would always make a phonecall to say they had planted a bomb......

  • classic!

  • "Look At me i'm as free as a.."

"we thinkwev'e got hens in the skirting board"

    love this sketch

  • I know - I can never get what I want when I go shopping!

    LOL!

  • wow

  • a classic!!!! i wet myself every time i c it!!!

  • well ur sad then aren't yer!!!

  • I'm the same as Keef - know everyword - nothing has ever made me laugh as much as this did the first time I saw it - I pissed myself laughing!

  • Absolute genius. Both are amazing!

  • This Is The Funniest Sketch Ever!! I know everyword, every action ... I just laugh everytime at everything!!

  • excellent posting - "we think we've got hens in the skirting board"

  • Fabulous!!!

  • So funny,!!! Love it.

  • Flatter now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I did this sketch for a drama piece in a fetival and it ws great to do!!!! Couldnt have played julies part that well tho!!!

  • Brilliant! haha! Love Julie Walters!

  • This is a total classic, Julie Walters plays the perfect, "woman on day release". Love it!

  • This is a great sketch really funny!!!
