  • you state yourself it does not work....make it private for your own records then.... thank you

  • Oh wow I completely forgot I had posted this video. Checking back in like 2 years.

People this thing doesn't work any more (and I'll bet half of the links in the description are dead). I should really remove it but I'm just gonna leave it as is.

At least youtube levelled up somewhat since I posted this in terms of quality/video duration etc etc.

  • OH MY GOD WHAT THE F*** IS THAT ITS TOOOOOOO HARD NO THANKS

  • why isn't THIS video HD? It sure could use it to read better :/

  • i dont understarnd this.

  • This is a zelda theme music remix, is it not?

where did you find? :D I absolutely love zelda!

  • My problem is the words appears on screen are not clear could this solve the problem?

  • I've always thought in order to make high quality videos, you just have to have a high quality camera.

  • Song name? You left that out. :P

  • hmm... I've followed your instructions to the letter, but no mather what I put in into the hexedit the result is a bitrate of Riva's bitrate +2... For example, I tried with my vid that's 3:48 long. At bitrate 700 MediaInfo says it's 702. After hexing it to 1 min it's 702, same with 11 min.

Same happens with higher/lower bitrate in riva!

  • It doesn't work anymore. Read the description. :O

  • so this method doesn't work now???!!! plz answer ASAP i need the help, thanks.

  • Could you please give me the info about the song? I really would love to have it.

  • Man, fuck youtube.

    Bitches won't fix their problems

  • Thx for the Great illustration.....

  • wow complicated way

  • where's the friggin parametre button??????!!!!!!!!!!! it's not on the right hand side for me

  • Eu Enviava Videos Em AVI, Flash video À 50FpS

    Mas Agora é Só Tristesa :( :( :(

  • ontinued..,check some of my early music vids out to the ones i do now & you'll see no more pixelated video's.

  • if you want info on how i did it just let me know & i'll get back to you

  • Man i tried every format to upload to youtube good video's, i tried Avi ..WMV.. FLV Files & still my video's look like pixelated garbage, they are good quality files but as soon as youtube process them they are total crap..i tried everything & nothing works it's driving me mad!!!!!!!!!

  • same here! did you get to fix the problem?

  • is it just me-or did the quality on this vid nao just drop like by 90%?

  • whats the name of the song??????

  • you say the method stopped working on Feb4 08 but this guy uploaded a video with a hexed duration on July 9 08, heres the video v=TLd9F2yKnFI does this mean we can still hex edit for better quality!?

  • what's the song name on the video ?

  • as long as u post ur video in high quality, u will get a high quality option

  • Just a question:

If I lowered the quality would that allow me to make the video longer?

    Just asking.

  • yes or reduce the bit rate

  • k thx man.

  • any know how to upload vid over 1hours?

    or am must pay youtube?

  • To upload videos over 10 minutes you had to be an accepted directory before 2006 (Which is when Google bought YouTube), now you can't get longer than 10 minutes. If it helps, YouTube doesn't care if you upload 10:59 min videos though XD

  • Awesome

  • how do you put videos in files someone I'm begging you to reply.

  • I have no clue what you're asking.

  • dude! when i encode my it allways fails now what?

  • read the description

  • WTF are you asking?

  • You know when your uploading you have to chose a file with the video in it so how do I get a video in a file.

  • wtf????

  • When you upload videos, you choose the video file - the video is a file itself.

  • fuck the video.why stere no stereo.dont"stereo

  • Touhou!

  • so,anybody has a working method for making HQ videos?

  • Click "My Account" in the upper right and then videos. Then there should be a button saying remove video somewhere.

  • Haha that was a nice in depth tutorial!^^ I just wish it still worked.T_T The song was cool too^^.

  • i have a question if i have done a video and format is right for the youtube which steps should i skip ...

  • Thank You Very Much

  • And Im not finding the sorenson program

  • Why it writes: Encoding failed! I have an MPEG

    video?

  • youtube is crap man, is not worth the hassle trying to get high quality. theres better places for that. youtub ejust want girls talking about their makeup at 300bits per secnd not i only upload things here that i havent got the heart to delete of my computer.

  • hello, why do you have to upload this vide if it doesn't exist, you should delete it,,lol

  • The video was uploaded way before the method become obsolete.

  • do you have any idea how to upload high quality video!? LOL

  • I surely don't :p .. That's why I searched for a method as well.

  • me too,, three , four, five, six. ,,, LOL

  • okay dude. nice video. i have sony vegas and dude, wats da best bitrate for a 480x360 video?

  • Why would you thank for info that doesn't work?

  • I think a better question would be: Why do you have a video on YouTube that doesn't work?!

  • That's for me to decide.

  • BECAUSE.......

He uploaded it when it did work but if you read the description you would no as of February 4th this didnt work anymore.

  • I don't find the word duration..:(

  • found!

  • You might want to note that this thing doesn't work anymore :p Check description.

  • I saw...it was my only hope! I wanted to try

  • What kind of screen record did u use to make this

  • SUPER is just one of the many video transcoders (frontends). Search "SUPER ©" and it should be first result.

  • By download I think you mean upload. Anyway, usually it does take a while for files to upload so give it some time (has to be under 100 megabytes). Upload should work even if your file is not compatible, in which case Youtube will say it's not allowed or whatever in My Account -> My Videos (or something like that). Riva is free but it won't help you with your problem. If it says video rejected, try converting your video to another format using some kind of transcoder (e.g. google SUPER)

  • This method is toooo long.. geez

  • In the description it says, "This matter does NOT work"

    Geez....

  • I know it doesn't work anymore. I'm just saying even when it was allowed, it's way TOO Long.

  • Ya and it didn't usually work even when it was allowed.

  • The &fmt=18 appended to the URL is h.264 aac lc stereo - quite good for the ~400Kbps vid IMO. Problem is YT's audio "compressor" that makes everything loud - perhaps they have their reasons...

  • Holy shit, thats a lot to do. What if I just export it from Windows Movie Maker in high quality format, will that be ok? I don't care if it great, but would it help?

  • wont be that good as in vid but w/e finally found out a easier way :D

  • Hey MisterSmartalick i tried to export from windows media and it was horrible when you moved around. It looks good on the little screen until you make it, it stinks.

  • I actually had a rather good experience with it. If you are exporting it from Movie Maker, make sure you select "More Options" >> "High Quality" , then publish it. After you have done that, convert the bit rate to 350 using Prism Video converter (nice freeware, google it) Try it out, that is what worked for me.

  • Hey xtmnx so this method is all done and cant be done again, well that stinks?

If you find another way to upload high quality videos please let me know.

  • Yeah this method is gone. For another HQ video uploading method, check one of the recent vids I favourited (watch?v=9UnQWdPhU8Y for reference)

  • alright, thanks

  • i heard theres a new way to have high quality vids on youtube

  • Youtube is offering "high" quality video with dropped framerate caveat. Try appending "&fmt=18" (without quotation) to the end of your video URL.

Besides that, there's another way. Look through the favourited videos on my page.

  • That do not seem to easy and seems that it will take forever to do. Not sure about this sorry

  • this don't work anymore??? D:?

  • Yeah, Youtube blocked the method.

  • Good job, but I don't know why what ever I do the Mediainfo still shows the original video bit rate which I figured it exists when I looked at the hex file, and when I upload it gets recompressed!

  • This method doesn't work anymore. All videos over real bitrate over 350 will get youtubified (which is a bad thing).

  • easier said than done...tnx

  • xtmnx, can youtube videos videos be burned to a dvd to watch in a car dvd player?if yes, how plzzzzzzz?tnx

  • Simply download Youtube flv files (Google 'youtube download' if you don't know how) and burn the .flv file to the DVD. Shouldn't be different from any other video file.

  • does it work now?I didnt try it yet

  • I saw this on AOL Video...

  • As of Feb.8th in certain areas of the world. If you upload a.wmv video to youtube with 850 kbps and under it will post as a regular quality vid But,when you add :

    &fmt=6

after the video address onyour browser, it will show you the same video in the original high quality you put it in but will NOT work with flv or any other format ONLY .WMV

BY the way it will not be in stereo only MONO ...(for youtube Copyright issues)

  • i do with out that and wen its done it say 0:00 secons.......... i need help

  • when i open the the file with mediainfo it always crash with "Floating Point Overflow"

    Any idea?

  • I repeat "WARNING: This method does not work as of February 4, 2008"

  • This doesn't seem to work anymore. YouTube can't be serious. It's madness for ppl to do all of this stuff just to get HQ video. SMH.

  • It didn't quite work for me, I think I might have done something wrong at the hex editing part, because when I uploaded the video to youtube, it still said 29 sec instead of 10 min, or whatever it should say.

  • Youtube might have introduced measures to block the method. I'm gonna check after I get the badly needed sleep :p

  • Seems like youtube made something somewhere in the last 12 hours to prevent this method, i just uploaded a HQ video 12 hours ago, but i cant anymore.

  • You're right, they did. If I remember correctly this is exactly the same date they introduced the 350 kbps conversion last year.

  • now, i got it to work, but it fails when i try to encode. what a shitty program

  • i can't open riva with this shitty vista. fuck it...

  • This way doesn not work for. youtube encodes my video, only way that worked for me was Freez's Video tutorial using VirtualDub

  • If you put in a >320x240 video it won't reencode? Since I know the YT systems run on 320x240 displays.

Interesting, I've done .flv uploads, but it always reencoded.

  • your video makes no sence first you say to put the bitrate for video at a high number if the video is short minutes then u say it has to be under 350 ? at 350 its already youtube quality lol

  • read again.

  • Click here if you are having problems with the uploader. Woould that be the reason why my original flv file has more higher quality than on youtube?

  • But, Problem is. The flv file that riva concerted was smoother and had more better quality, then when i uploaded to youtube. Is this normal? i thought the same flv i get , would be the same on youtube.

Only thing different i did, when uploading to youtube, is i always have to use that button that says "click here if your having problems with youtube uploader". I always get that problem with firefox and internet explorer, So by clicking on that

    Having trouble?

  • Heres what i did. I had a clip from a dvd, vob file thats about 150 MB big, i renamed .vob to .mpg so that riva flv encoder, could encode it, and it said completed successfull. The original vob, attribute was like 720 x 480 and 29.99 framerate, So i used the same exact settings, you used on your video tutiral , which is 480 x 360, etc, after it was all done. i did the same hex edit, and it was 325, below, 350, so i guess it was ready to be seen on youtube

  • nice video , annoying thing is the ten minute limit though as it turns away a potential audeicne. I would like to see what actual fotage looks like this way. Oh and whast the music? :)

  • Music is called "Reincarnation".

  • I put in everything on Riva FLV Encoder, but I keep getting this error when I press Encode:

    Windows:

    "ffmepeg.exe has encountered a problem..."

    Riva:

"The encoding of your video has failed..."

    Any suggestions?

  • Try converting your video/audio to some other format before feeding to Riva.

  • First convert it to AVI using Any Video Converter and then convert that file in to FLV using your very own RIVA! ;)

  • Thank you, I will try it out.

  • Yep. You know, you can use Super Video Converter for this, infact that is the one I used but the fact is I don't understand or doing something wrong, that my videos still end up having "YouTube" quality!

  • I rendered WMV file in Vegas 7.0 then encoded it in to FLV using Riva. then edited the 8 Hex with XVI32 and Uploaded it to youtube, but I still have the LOWEST QUALITY possible and it shows the ture lenght of the video rahter than the 10:00! Help Please?

  • You probably changed wrong hex values. Take a look at the image linked in note 7 in description.

  • I changed 8 HEX that's 16 Char. right after 40. And I still have the same problem.

  • Ok, for Encoding in Riva- My video length is 240 Sec. So, am I to Divide 240 from 600? What's the 350* you have for?

  • Maximum bitrate Youtube accepts is 350kbps. This method fakes the video length so that bitrate appears spreadout to Youtube's system. If you're in doubt, just put something like 700 to 1000 for bitrate, do the xvi32 thing and check with MediaInfo to make sure it's below 350.

  • Can I use the second upload method rather than the default One. Because when I use the default method, it seems to me like, I am not sending or receving any Internet Traffic(sending and receving bits aren't changing) eventhough I have clicked on Upload!

  • I tried it with SUPER.. since Riva wont work on me xD.. it worked though

  • how should i do this if the video is only 2:30 and i don't want it to appear 10:00?

  • Check note 4 for other hex values you can put for other times (you'll have to lower bitrate accordingly).

There is no way to make Youtube player not display false duration.

  • I have Sony Vegas 7.0, FRAPS Video Recorder. Are these enough to make and upload high Q. on youtube? Or Do I need anything else too?

    Thanks.

  • the # that has to be under 350 is under "first video stream" right? that number doesn't go down no matter what i do. I changed the bit rate over and over again, and it's never under 350 after i do the thing in xvi32.

Actually the kbps # doesn't change at all, it stays the same even after i do the thing in xvi31.

  • Yeah, it's the first video stream one. Weird. Check note 7 in description (which I just added) and see if you've done everything right.

  • nvm, i fixed it. I changed the view mode in mediainfo, and turns out it is under 350...

  • What do you mean by "look for the 16 characters"?

  • I added note number 7 in description. That might help you.

  • Oh ok but when i compared my "Meet the Spartans Trailer" with my HD, they're still the same. Look at my video. What is wrong?

  • If your original video has higher resolution than 480x360 (e.g. 640x480), try keeping that resolution when encoding with Riva Encoder.

  • ok ty

  • nice thanks, and nice song too or music...lol

  • thanks man

  • do you happen to have the codec I require to allow it to encode? or do I just google H.263 codec?

  • is that what you need to get it to work?

    just download a codec?

  • thats what it says for me, I followed the parameters of the vid (for riva, since I can't continue past that if I can't encode)

  • oh right I found another progam which allready has the codec its called "Super"

I allready converter 1 video with it and the quality is superb.

if you cant get riva to convert then try that progam

  • I found it, will try now hope it's similar.

  • what did you find super or the codec?

  • super, still haven't found a codec really want to cause I checked after using super and it wasn't even in output folder *sigh*, so hard to find a working encoder.

  • yea there is its in you local HDD\progam files\erightsoft\output.

you'll find your file in there :)

  • yeah found it, but I wanna try get riva to work.

  • same if you get it to work please tell me or send me a PM.

    thanks

  • When I try to minimize the video it increases.

  • The second from right button on Youtube player is actually 'display in original resolution', not minimize. Normally Youtube converts everything to 320x240 but if you submit larger video through the method, it would try get bigger when you click that button.

  • I have just finished and am about to try and upload. If it works mate, I just wanna say I love you.

  • Hi Guys, I don't need sound. Can I get extra bandwidth for better quality video this way?

    Cheers

  • none of the programs works on my pc o_O is it because of vista?

  • Riva conveniently lists spec as Windows 98 or better, which would mean they think Vista is worse than 98 (and probably for a good reason!).

Silly joke aside, yeah it's probably Vista. Try running the apps in W2000 or XP compatibility mode. I don't know how that's done in Vista but in XP it's right click - properties - compatibility tab - compatibility mode.

  • well it works now, since i extracted my files to somewhere else and runned as admin, but i still have trouble of using XVI32 i dont how it works o_O looks so complicated... also somebody else is writing down a guide with the similair tut. so far it goes well, btw does it matter if my bitrate is over 350 since i can only choose 48,96,160 and 360 etc..

  • Yeah your video will get reconverted (as far as I know) when it goes above 350. As for XVI32, you can use any of the hundreds of hex editors out there. Search 'comparison of hex editors' on Wikipedia.

  • well that's the problem i follow the tut from strip45 and still i dont know what to do, ques i have to wait until the other one is done with his guide ;)

  • hey man I need serious help when ever I go to convert a video i allways get an error scrreen it says that the video permenters are not supported I've tryed what you said by converting it I've tryed divx, VD and even exporting the video as avi before converting it into FLV what can i do???

  • Make sure you didn't touch the stuff about padding and crop. Try different audio bitrate and try disabling deinterlace. If all else fails, use fir.. er different encoder.

  • thanks for the help but still nothing works I mite try to have another crack at mencoder.

  • what other encoder can I use I've tryed a few but none of them allow me to change the size of the video to fit on yourtube without youtube re-sizeing it?

    what one do you reccomend?

  • MEncoder should definitely be able to do everything you need if done right. Anyway, try using MediaCoder (google it, should be first result). I don't really like it much for different reasons but it should work fine.

  • yea I dont like media coder much either I allready have that on my computer its the trail and I just updated it but ever since I've gotten it, it hasent let me convert a single video. Also I cant find a working verson of mencoder which isent courrpt or anything.

  • God, you rock indeed! You put a song from ZUN's album... I think it's Dolls in PseudoParadise. Whichever it is, I love it. Yes, thanks for the tips too. Insta-favorite.

  • You rock.

  • Hi - Thanks for doing this. In your vid you say it make youtube think the video is less than 10 minutes, but is it also making it think the bitrate is less than 350kbps. I assume you still have the 100MB file size limit right?

    Thanks again.

  • Your actual limit is 28MB, you can only upload up to 11 minutes, unless you have an old director account, then yeah, your limit is 100 since you dont have a time limit.

the thing is a 28MB 11mins video is 348kbps, which is pretty much your limit.

  • Hey man! I get it work. The promblem was encoder :/. i used mencoder and it worked. but anyway thanks of the tutorial

  • Thanks, this method is awesome =D

  • Hey! Nice video! I got a quite good quality coming out, but not as good as you. And that is because the FLV. file I created with RIVA is bad quality. Can you please help me getting good quality?

  • The longer the video, the poorer the quality quality will be, ceteris paribus. Riva only does single pass encoding so you want to try two pass encoding through more powerful tools if you want higher quality with the same file size. Hard to describe here so look around :)

Also, if your source video is bad, your FLV will be bad. Not an exactly earthshaking fact.

  • Well, I made the video with Sony Vegas best rendering settings so the video quality is absolutely nice and quite big.

But how you mean in 2 passes?

  • An d ohyeah, my video was 40 seconds long so not long

  • Riva encoder might introduce crap on your video when it takes the big video and resizes it. You could use the MEncoder parameters in 45tripp's post (see description) to get higher quality.

I've seen your vids and they look pretty good to me though :P Youtube is still Youtube after all.

  • Thanks! It worked beautifully!

  • Thanks, it works really well.

Ive posted it as a video response.

  • I tried that but its the same. the program works, but my video have wrong codecs or something like that? what codecs did you used and what format (avi. wmv.....)?

  • Xvid avi works perfectly, among others. Try converting your video to xvid first then go from there.
