  • Hendrix e' l'allievo ed Yngwie e' il maestro Fucking Amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • i fucking loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee this best cover ever

  • a lot of ham and cheese, but some great playing and singing.

  • I saw this one. Has to be the best version of Jimis SCM. Jimi would have been proud!

  • 30 years later he's still the gold standard. he actually wrote albums worth of songs. all these youtube shredders can move their fingers but they can't write anything worth listening to. when all you "less is more" people order a pizza do you order just dough? why not? less is more. if you can't play shreddy stuff then you have absolutely no right to even talk about it. because if you could play like this you would.

  • Wow... this is awesome. Yngwie is so good...

  • if only everyone could be so sexy and talented once in their lives

  • that strat has awesome sustain!

  • I used to have this on tape back in 89-90. I now remember there was too much crowd noise in the editing and can still hear it 20 years later. It's cool to finally see that same exact recording live after all of those years. Yngwie is an amazing player.

  • This is an awesome Hendrix cover! xD

  • Very Peppy !!! Can I have some ??

  • Keyboards is awesome right here. pirate status

  • Yngwie Malmsteen is a little whore!

  • Dont know...timing of these high notes etc..not impressed...lots of notes...sloppy at times well 89 dont blame them for the looks..lots of hair.....timing and soul some of the assets of Hendrix..completely absent here...

  • @Dubaiman123 to be honest, dnt ever send a white dude to do jimi's lyrics, but always send a euro to do his guitar.

Just like jimi, it was at that time no one understood and it was the 80's man, it sounded like this.

both nvr needed to speak, they knew how to use what they were given and how to use it well. Dnt ever put dwn either because they're better than you.

  • @Dubaiman123 I know!!!!!!!! You would have nailed it though i bet!!!!!!! I bet you are bad ass!! No wait i bet you think playing fast means you suck!!! You would have played just six notes and it would have been a masterpiece right?? Right??

  • simply great cover..never seen so powerful spanish castle magic except from some fucking gods like Johnny winter or of course Jimi Hendrix!!

  • I'm a Wisconsin Metal chick, and I LOVE Yngwie. To me, he is over-the-top sexy. I'm also a fan of Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, and Michael Schenker. It's not an issue of one guitarist being fantastic and all the rest being garbage; it's about a fleet of musicians who give their all for us. Incidentally, does anyone know how Yngwie gets that astonishing long sustain starting at 2:20; is it with an overdrive pedal? Thanks.

  • @singeGBWI Depending on your setup, yes, a good tube amp, an overdrive pedal and a guitar setup halfway decently can have some great sustain.

  • pretty fucking killer

  • Hilarious....I needed cheering up.

  • wow they even managed to incorporate some of Hendrix's song Machine Gun. and the drums make this song "pop" even more. very impressive.

  • there is a ton of feeling

  • 3:42 RAPE!!!1!!!11111!!!!!!!!!!

  • i don't know - it ain't got no real feeling to it.

reminds me of a lot of cats in Boston from Berklee - lots of superfast noodling - no feel.

  • the whole band is flawless.

  • @crazedcatman1234 Did you know that Yngwie didn't know he was going to play this song? The band didn't know they were going to play this song. It was completely an impulse of Yngwie's at the start of this video. That's why he plays the opening riff for so long and then the drummer does a long roll to get the thing going safely spontaneously.

  • I bet Jimmy would have been proud to see yngwie ( what kinda name is THAT btw !??) do this AWESOME cover ...

  • @fritshits77 Yngwie is a stylized spelling of the Scandinavian name, Yngve. His full, real, name is Lars Johan Yngve Lannerbäck. It means, in general, Lord and is an older name of the Norse God, Freyr. Check Wikipedia under Yngvi and Yngve.

  • @ntk986 THNX for this info > cool to know!! this version was played often on SUPER CHANNEL , one of the early music TV channels, this was in `88/`89...still have VHS tapes from that , and every now & then I have it played in my local ROCK bar..called ROCKZ! still is a KILLER version...the guitar just screeeeeamz!!! CIAO

  • or even rising force~Peace~

  • /watch?v=Rpx0JAwph_c just didn't get it '-' yngwie said that he never played hendrix riffs

  • and LOL!!!!!! can't do away with those funny Ritchie Blackmore antics!!!!!!!

  • I JUST LUV HEARING THIS HENDRIX COVER.......simply one of the best....and a little different!!!!!!!

  • 1:35 XDXDXD

Joe, we all know you like riding Malmsteen`s cock, but you haven`t to show it on stage.XDXDXD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • its not about guitar gymnastics its about a musical adventure, tone and taste like Hendrix had is difficult to achieve

  • in an interview i heard Malmsteen say he did not like Hendrix music, he just liked his stage antics

  • In retrospect.. 80's clothing was so gay.

  • @TrebleFiend it was called baroque fashion style:) lol just saying.peace~

  • @notntusay lol you mean vampire pirate nutcracker attire?

  • @emericanchaos ~actually you might be right in this case . He was more baroque lets say in Lier or fury~

  • One of the reasons why Malmsteen gets bashed is because of his lack of discipline. Part of being a great musician is knowing when not to play something. In this video Malmsteen shows that he is capable of being great. He should play like this more often and not try to play a million notes per second all the time. That stuff gets old real quick.

  • @RebelThoughts was going by the comments again wen i caught this onein which you observe in yur opionion Inqwie lacks discipline.sorry it just struck me becuz it's a well known fact that Ingwie was one of the more disciplened in music as he practiced 8hrs. most days.not dissing you.peace~

  • I don't see any spanish

    I don't see any castle

    but I do see magic

  • sexy beast

  • 34 dislikes go do one and get back to listenining to that talentless twat bieber, this is music !!!!!

  • I'm not a huge Yngwie fan...He is a very good player and all, just don't dig his style..but here he shows to have some great taste in his playing. He'd do stuff that Jimi himself could've come up with. Props to Yngwie for this.

  • i can smell the drakkar from here.

  • Everybody knows how great Yngy is. But if you're a fan of Jimi and this song, you love what Joe is doing on the vocals here. Jimi would have loved all of it.

  • It takes two people to do what Jimi could do by himself.

  • @TheGallantGentry apart from the fact that Jimi could never in his life play like mulmsteen, even though Jimi was in my opinion a "Better player" in terms of taste and such, but he was nothing in terms of technique compared to mulmsteen

  • @jbarton2009 I wasn't looking for a debate. I was making an observation.

My fav is Jimmy Page anyway. :D

  • @jbarton2009 If we're talking about strat players then it would be David Gilmour.

  • Influenced by the best, Ritchie Blackmore!

  • Yngwie's vibrato is so fucking sweet! I could care less for the shredding but when he holds a note it just SINGS!!

  • Ynwie's vibrato is so fucking sweet! I could care less for the shredding but when he holds a note it just SINGS!!

  • Yeah this is it just ask malmsteen do an hendrix cover and this is what he did with spanish castle magic he should be very proud I know Hendrix would be my favourite moment is in 4:26 you really hear the Hendrix kinda of playing For those who think Yngwie is trying to copy and sound like Jimi They are wrong he just covered this great song to have a good show for his fans cause that's Yngwie Malmsteen Hope you have a very good year yngwie Cheers!

  • Shows that having a good understanding of the blues was also part of his arsenal Many of the later day shredders lack this lesson. They may have chops but no feel. YM has both. .

  • At 4,1o0 -4,17 he's really the beast...he plays 3 tones in the same time....this cover defilitelly beats Jimi's original!

BUT JIMI INVENTED IT ...that nobody could beaT..EVER!

  • @vasilijeb no way dude, this is quite good especially for Yngwie's standards. But it's still no hendrix.

  • @hesmon Oh my Gosh, I get so tired of hearing"It's not Hendrix" NO SHIT, Its YNGWIE FUCKING MALMSTEEN!! If he wanted to sound exactly like Hendrix, he would have been called a POSER and never gotten anywhere. Sorry for the tirade, but it really is pretty damn frustrating.

  • @NeufilmsInc I see your point. You are right. Hendrix fans can be very stubborn, as am I. It's a good cover. I just prefer Jimi but this is nice as well.

  • @hesmon Yah, Hendrix is amazing, sometimes I just sometimes take things a little too seriously! ;-P

  • I love that Yngwie laid back and put a ton of soul in the solo and did not try to burn the sun with million mile an hour riffs. I love him when he plays like this. I appreciate his chops as well but it take more control to play a solo like this than a super fast one sometimes.

  • @SIXSTRING63 amen to that...I wish a bunch of kids thought that. It's all speed now. No rhythmic phrasing

  • classic joe lynn turner and malmsteen

  • the singer moves like a stripper and @ 0:42 was the gayest kick I've ever seen. I see this more as a lesson on how not to look and play. The solo flashy, but boring. yngwie should stick to the neo classical stuff, his volume swells are awesome. He just doesn't do rock n roll well. There are a ton of players out there who have really learned the guitar and chords, not just a scale or two.

  • @loudrussell LOL! Nice dude! Really gay... :-)

  • @loudrussell I dont like ur kind around here...

  • @loudrussell alright 2nd of all you gotta understand this is like 80's metal. The glam scene was hot dude and this is a pretty dang good band performance. Theres definitely a lot of gayer fucking bands in the 80's. And last of all this was a HENDRIX cover. do you not understand that lol.

  • people love to bust on Yngwie - they say he doesn't play with soul. c'mon, this shit is fucking madness.

  • coming from someone who hates yngwie this is very hard to say, but that was a awesome cover

  • oo:34 rotchie blackmore's signature move

  • SIMPLY THE BEST!!!!!!

  • This is some serious S...notwithstanding the earlier comment re;Mitch Mitchell.

  • and the sustain tone is in sane ,, bro love him, besides he is excelent w hendrix stuff thnx to hendrix,,, lol.

  • Yngwies absolute best performance at the top of his game!!!

  • That was a Yngwie's magic moment of inspiration. A great show. Both Trial and Inspiraton's versions of Spanish Castle Magic are MAGICAL.

  • I always thought yngwie was a bit of a showoff, after this performance i guess he could show off if he wanted to cause that was just nasty (in a good way)

  • 2:27 great note!!!!!!! very reminiscent of THE note Jimi played in Machine Gun!!!

  • @joeylodes

Yeah but it dosent have the same emotional power as Hendrix's

  • The drummer ain't no Mitch Mitchall, thats for sure.

  • @IDontLiveTodayJH Right on, and Yngwie, aint no Hendrix!!!!!!! great cover, but Yngwie cant help but OVERPLAY, great tone , great chops, but he overplays, sometimes he doesn't let the music breathe, you cant live without air, and either can music.

  • this is the best tone ive ever heard from malmsteen. his tone nowadays in my opinion doesnt come close to this.

  • just plain out awesome !!

  • fuck this guy

  • Amazing..

  • drummer is lacking

  • He has the swagger of Jack White in this Video. When he slows down and plays blues he blows me away. Lately he seems to be trying to hard to play super fast and it sucks ass. He has such a killer tone and emotion in this video. Thanks for posting!

  • @814mfg I think he's trying to relive his glory years of the 80's. Now he's just an arrogant, ego-crazy older man. He's lost a lot of respect or being so into himself lately, and now he is the the subject of many jokes about his weight, his drop in popularity, stuff like that. I think he's just trying to stay young and similar to how he was in the 80's, when he played really fast.

  • He is the shit if you don't believe just ask him lol.If I had that kinda talent I would be much worse than they claim he is

  • Guitar flip at 1:34

  • Comment removed

  • no feeling just notes played fast and hair.

  • Aside from him being his self..... this is true greatness.....straight dope. Looking back on this preformance with my older , yet still some what star struck peepers..... he was very special here. Great fucking song played with attitude . Yngwie attitude dude. He seemed so super human back then. Then he ate a super human or two.

  • Not sure if i have ever seen someone own the moment like Yngwie does!!!!

  • How does he maintain that long sustain starting at 2:30? Is it with an overdrive petal?

  • @gbwisconsin No, it's with 6 marshall stacks.

  • @Dephfektive, how exactly does he do it without distortion or feedback setting in immediately?

  • @gbwisconsin it really depends on the guitar with feedback. ive found that you cannot get as much feedback from strats, especially if youre using 2 pickups at once. LPs have feedback on some settings, you can get almost nothing from SGs.. however it depends on the amp as well. also how far away you are from the amp. theres really so many factors involved with feedback its an almost impossible art to study. so any of those reasons are why Yngwie isnt getting much feedback.

  • @hurricaneofrock The in-between pickup positions on strats are hum-cancelling, meaning they cut alot of the extra signal (feedback). Yngwie doesn't use these positions, but he does use noise supressors with very little decay, meaning the notes are cut very clean, for his trademark precision I would imagine.

  • @METALHEAD5396 ah ok, a noise gate makes sense.

  • the singer is soooo gay

  • @DaveGrohl85, actually Joe Lynn Turner was regarded to be quite attractive by the ladies and to have wonderful bedroom eyes. He's performed with Yngwie, Blackmore, Schenker, etc., and that's an impressive track record. Anyway, I defend your right to express your opinion.

  • @gbwisconsin i Was ironic....no problem dude

  • This speed-wanking poser desecrates a great Hendrix song. Go hear the original or even Hendrix's Isle of Wight performance here.

  • Fantastic.

  • Agee with "mKreifeldt"! Want to add though I think Y should give more credit to singers and others,,, Je jad some food through the years:)

  • jimi would be proud to here such great people playing his legacy.love yngwie and well jimi is just in a another catagory.since he had only low tech equipment.but still killed it any way.if jimi played it it got tore up biotch.badass.peace

  • what if the guitar strap broke at 1:30 when he made the guitar go around?

  • @maikai196 die

  • @maikai196 That's why you don't use a fraying strap at a show, and always use strap locks. Anyone using a strap in danger of breaking is an idiot.

  • This is an awesome version, the outfits and gestures are a little Spinal Tapish though.

  • hwhahahahahahahahahah He made the kick, that's so ahhahahahahaha XD at 0:42

  • started as spanish castle magic then decended into guitar shreddin pish !

  • jimi hendrix is way better then this shit!!!!!!@!@!!!!!! this is pure crap not even worth my time!

  • i love the solo at 1:45

  • My god the vocals are closely similar to Jimi's. Greatest cover ever seen in youtube right here.

  • I started crying when I saw and heard this.

    Yngwie does Hendrix!

    The Best!

  • Fuckin-A

  • Excellent cover of a fantastic song!

I love the comments section for Ynwie videos. Wherever there is a Yngwie video there are also hordes of nobodies, consumed with bitterness and jealousy, embarrassing themselves with silly arguments.

Everyone knows Yngwie Malmsteen is one of the all-time great guitar virtuosos, but sadly it appears that not everyone is emotionally equipped to deal with such a simple fact.

  • Funny to see 80's glam doing Hendrix.

.....but Mr. Malmsteen and company do a fantastic job on this one!

  • Playback! Sounds exactly like the studio version. At least the singer. But that was somehow standard in the soviet union back then.

  • @DavidVanPatten Which studio version did you listen to?

  • @LabConf

    His Greatest Hits Compilation.

  • @DavidVanPatten Collection? That's the live version as well...

Live in Leningrad was recorded with former Rainbow vocalist Joe Turner. The same version appears on The Yngwie Malmsteen Collection, 1991.

There's a studio version on the Inspiration album, 1996, also featuring Joe Lynn Turner, but the vocals doesn't sound very much like the live version.

  • @LabConf

Oh well than its obviously my bad. Should've known that :) Thanks

  • lol rock in USSR !

  • 1:33 absolutely epic¡¡¡¡¡

  • Jimi would have been proud..

    excellent...

  • ive loved jimi since my dad introduced me to him and ive listen to malmsteen but i did not know malsteen was a hendrix fan good to know

  • Yngwie claims he picked up the guitar the day Jimi died. He's one of his biggest influences along with Pagannini, Bach, and Blackmore..

  • Yngwie plays this because he loves hendrix.

No other reason should be needed.

  • Usually Malmsteen rapes Hendrix covers, but this was pretty good

  • yngwie at his absolute zenith in my opinion: the tone, the attitude the tone the chops the attidude..and did I say TONE? If anyone can find a more rightious strat-Marshall tone i'd love to know about it! Clanking Iron! Somewhere in there the spirit of Jimi was alive and well...Ygnwie style of course

  • @mKreifeldt I can think of a lot better Strat/Marshall tones. Jimi for one, and Stevie Ray Vaughan (he actually used a Marshall Town & Country at one point of his career, and he sounded great!). There are lots better tones with a strat into a marshall than Malmsteen's. The massive amount of distortion kind of ruins the Stratiness of his Strat. It lacks the Strat single coil sound, especially since he has stacked humbuckers intsead. It's not a true Strat, therefore not Strat-Marshall tone.

  • @hvrock13 There are lots of great strat Marshall tones and the tone YJM got in this era is one of them. I personaly HATED SRV's tones, sounded like a piano mixed with a dying water buffalo.

  • I liked this video so much!

    Mr. Malmsteen is awesome! ;)

  • I once read that Malmsteen said he didn't really get into Jimi's music that much. Seems like he's "into" it right here. Nice.!

  • I liked this cover very much

  • this songs about jimi as a kid and his mom, awsome cover malmsteen did here, the singers pretty good

  • Comment removed

  • Pretty good communication between soloist and drummer here. Marks of a good band.

  • Yngwie Malmsteen is awesome!

He plays guitar like a God!

    Keep Rocking! :D

  • Yngwie Malmsteen é impressionante!

Ele toca guitarra como um Deus!

    Keep Rocking! :D

  • Yngwie's guitar playing in this video is good...but what the fuck is up with this singer? Seriously. I know that in the 80's people "did things differently"....but this guy has no excuse for being as useless to this song as he is. I'd rather listen to Jimi Hendrix mumble this whole song high on acid.

  • the singer is awesome dude. I dont see any problem with him.

  • That's Joe Lynn Turner....most notably of Rainbow.

  • ah nice! I thought I recognized his voice! thanks!

  • @hurricaneofrock Joe Lynn Turner,an old Rainbow singer.

  • @hurricaneofrock joe lynn turner.

  • @hurricaneofrock other than his eighties hair

  • @codyahernek WHAT?! The 80's hair is like the icing on the cake!

  • @hurricaneofrock hahahaha i suppose so.

  • @ccccorde, just remember that by the point in the live set that this song was performed, Joe Lynn Turner had been straining his vocal chords a long while. If you'll check out the Odyssey album, along with the 3 disks he made with Rainbow, you'll find JLT is a powerful vocalist.

  • is that david lee roth lool?

  • this is how Yngwie should look like thru out his life...he gotta lose more weight, and I mean MORE weight....!!

  • Hendrix inspired theee best guitarists.

    Whats that say about Jimi?

    God.

  • what key is this in? i wonder. is it A minor harmonic or is it closer to the SCM key C# but in harmonic minor?

  • yngwie is obviously a very good guitar player... but he just looks retarded on stage... why does he keep kicking the air? its like a 12 year old told him what was cool to do, and he was trying to do exactly that

  • You should try playing a live show sometime. Whether it looks unbelievably stupid or not, it's just fun!

  • @mellamosean

then again what stage tricks do look cool?

    lighten up.

  • i'm plenty lightened up, i think plenty of stage tricks are cool... playing with your teeth, behind your back, "the who" guitar strum (the one where you rotate your arm all the way around)... i normally don't question the guitarist who is playing, they can do whatever they want. but watchin yngwie play just looked stupid to me. personal opinion, i'm sure many would agree... anyway i thought he looked stupied, you might not, thats as far as this conversation goes as far as i'm concerned haha

  • mellamosean, full agreement here pal. This is the most pathetic piece of shit performance video I've ever seen. Doesn't matter how fast the guitarist is. "Hair bands" should not attempt Hendrix. Garbage.

  • glad somebody agreed... i never really understood the whole "hair metal" scene anyway

  • Yeah and we should look for your epic album and dvd in what stores? Oh, and when will your wourld tour be stopping in Russia....LOL stop taking up valuable oxygen that a productive human being could be using.

  • hey saicosis2, remember that Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and many other "artists" have had millions of records/dvds put out to the consuming public y the huge corporte entities behind them. I do play and love music. I acknowledge that Yngwie obviously spent much time learning to play fast, but the songs on his records pretty much suck, as does almost all of the "hair" era music. Sorry if my expressing my opinion offends you.

  • Well, not only did you manage to not answer my questions at all, you also managed to name 3 artists without mentioning one that had the ability to play any intrument what so ever. You obviously have no credentials or taste. If you don't like intrumental artists then don't come on pages where they are featured. For you to say that YJM's songs suck is just assinine and proves that you are a mindless idiot. YJM has sold millions of records himself, if that is all you can compare with.

  • BTW, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga are both cover artists. They have yet to write any of their own material which would automatically discount them from even being comparable to someone with the writing and composition talents of Yngwie. DO YOU EVEN HAVE A CLUE ABOUT MUSIC TO ANY DEGREE???

  • "writing and composition talents?" Writing sterile music counts technically as being a composer, I guess.

I haven't sold millions of records or toured Russia, and I still love to play music. Hair bands shouldn't play groove-oriented music like Hendrix because they don't know what groove and feel is. Sorry. Malmsteen definitely does not have an ounce of groove or soul in his playing. Stick to covering Deep Purple Ying-Yang!
