This is an interesting upload. It must be a televised broadcast from the 1964 Visconti production of Il Trovatore at Covent Garden in which an indisposed Leontyne Price was replaced by a then unknown Welsh soprano, Gweneth Jones. The conductor was no less than Carlo Maria Guilini. Simionato, according to the reviews, stole the singing honours, no surprises there.
Bravo Prevedi!!! I've always thought he was a just a bit bigger voiced Bergonzi:) &, much better high notes too! Bergonzi many times sounded just a tad flat:( Bravo Bruno!!! Yes, he was very underrated! Maybe 2day he'll get what's due:)

Personally I have never heard the phrase : "Egli era il tuo fratello"..before the "sei vendicata, oh madre".... sung in a more compelling, wonderful, expressive way than Simionato sings it here.... what a genius.... Azucena's terrible destiny, torn apart between the love for her son and the promise she made to her mother, comes across so vividly, so clear.... the whole character represented in one phrase...and what a Si bémol at the end......Giulietta la Grande!
I knew Bruno Prevedi, if I remeber well I listened to him first in Don Carlos, to be honest in that circumstance I didn't get a positive impression, He was not in the character and seemed technically inaccurate, as a consequence I always underestimated him; now, after many years I acknowledge I was wrong, probably He was induced or obliged to accepte some roles unsuitable for his personality and his voice, today I regret He wasn't given the chance to develop his talent completely.
HI. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy great opera areas from IL Trovatore. I love Trovatore. This is a geme. I enjoy it very very much everytime I listeninf to it. These trio is FANTASTICO...
All three of them are just FABULOUS! Jones is a wonderful dramatic coloratura soprano and a convincing, impassioned Leonora. Prevedi has a wonderful dark, rich voice and awesome top notes! His Manrico is full of passion and his acting is expressive.I think he was underrated. And Simionato is a wonderful Azucena!
It's so nice to hear this kind of singing and know that it really did exist!!!! Oh what we wouldn't give to hear a Trovatore like this again... DREAM ON!!!!
You are right but she is a good Leonora too. Obviously her role is Brünhilde. Simionato is outstanding as always an Prevedi ha s nice voice and sigs good too. Wouls like to have the complete opera.

My favourite Brünnhilde as Leonora, yess! :D
And Prevedi. In those times there were a lot of great tenors.
Simionato is a goddess.
