How does Mays program the strings to match the piano without touching the keyboard? Is it backstage help?

that happen also in song for bilbao.. I think he must have a trigger in the piano or something..

The piano has a MIDI system installed which triggers the strings sound. The strings only come out when he hits certain keys in the lower part of the keyboard, and he uses volume pedals to mix them in. In Bilbao he cancels the piano sound and you only hear the brass sound. It takes great skill to do it the way he does it.

yeah, anyone who likes Metheny should definitely buy the Speaking of Now DVD. It's incredible musically and technically. The video and audio production is great, every nuance of the performance can be heard, and the music is amazing.
