I played through this one and the second one again recently, awesome stuff :) To those who want to play it: What I did was installed DosBox (free), grabbed a copy of windows 3.1 (google) and installed it and ran CoTW in there that way. ran great :)
and would play again if there were additional versions, quests, spells, items and monsters.
I was expert at wasting time by Save/Load Game before going downstairs in a new dungeon floor level and detecting objects, because the entire map level (items included) is randomly generated the moment you go downstairs. Exemple: WTF!! No "Spellbook"?? Load!
how do you find all these secret doors?! I never found any so the first thing I used to choose as soon as I could was Phase Door to get to the secret rooms.
back when i played this i some how manage to glitch the hp, i think i some how went into negative constitution and then slept my way to infinite health.
loved this game, it was like a really old antique watered down version of WOW if you think about it, knowing Blizzard, this game could of been where they got most of WOWs ideas from.
@Litox1303 there is a way...but it is INSANELY difficult. I decided just not to bother.
It involves getting ahold of a windows XP disc, then partitioning your hard drive to allow a portion of it to be installed with windows XP...just to play CoTW.
The other way is to use virtual machine, which is a major RAM eater.
At this point...I would say it would be simpler just to go buy a junk computer with windows 95-XP to play it.
AMAZING game though...really wish I could play it.
i remenber this game and i play when i was a kid, but i never understand of all, first, bcuz the only way to attack was with spell, second there is no more information npcs... and the most important reason the game was in english , and i speak spanish so i never understand of all the game , but was really fun for me
I used to play this game so much when I was little. I must have been about 10 when I first played this, and I was obsessed with it. I still have fond memories of the hours and hours slogging through dungeons for minimal story. :)
Man, I was obsessed with this game when I was a little kid (that was back in the days when dial-up internet cost $2.00 an hour, so what else was I going to do on a computer). By the way, I was also never able to get the custom character icon feature to work, either.
hehe dude, i remember when i was about 10, my dad bought me my first computer, a 486 and it came with this game, it was awesome! it was my first pc game, this and commander keen =D

I've played so many times this game;
and would play again if there were additional versions, quests, spells, items and monsters.

Aha, so there is someone who has done an LP of this game! I am planning to do one myself at some point, and I am also wondering how to record it.

Does anyone know how?

@AngrySkwerl I just wanna play this at work...it gets really boring when there's nothing to do. lol
And RAM's not an issue here; the "lamest" laptops have 8GB of RAM. But dude, that does sound difficult...
Thanks for the reply tho. :)

I loved this game when I was little. I used to watch my dad play it all the time, until one day I tried it for myself. Great sequel too.

You can download it from Rick Saada's website. He was the developer, just Google him and it should take you right there.
