Because people from Toronto very much admire and respect that New York style, sound, mentality, swagger, w/e you may call it . They relate alot more to New York and the east coast than to LA/ West coast or the Dirty south thats for sure. Plus Toronto's ethnic makeup is very similar to that of New York....large Italian, Irish, English, Jamaican, Chinese, Eastern Europeans communities....tho Toronto does lack a puerto rican or any other hispanic presence

There was some guy who battled kid twist in one battle who was as white and as nerdy as he was, I forget his name but he was from Rockford Ill. Chicago is also a pretty diverse scene with a lot of Latin rap, but I just don't know how many battle rappers there are here.
