  • Poor kids today... thinking justin bieber is talented.

  • @4zt4r amen my brother!

  • So sad that all these great singers are no longer here and I mean great singers; with so much class and style, dressed well, acted well. You'll never see that armada of talent ever again.

  • Thanks for sharing that one

  • TALENT X2 - I am so grateful that this is posted - Kids and adults today just don't have anything like this to listen and watch - I wish there were a TV network or show called You Tube - where ecclectic array of classic artistry like this can be shown ... beats most of what is on TV now ... and all th ereality shows ... Thanks Ella and Sammy RIP to both ...

  • I met Ella after here TV show interview in canada(1980) during a stop at a CBC studio near me.She stayed behind and came out to meet people but most had left assuming she was off to the hotel in a Limo. I wasn't in a hurry, so i was there as she walked out to the seating in a nice Blue dress with low heel shoes because she was tall. My gawd she was so kind and spoke to me like a normal person,we talked about things outside of show biz and she loved it because i cared about her and not her job.

  • It don't get any better than Ella and Sammy. They were the tops!

  • Well, it's very interesting to see Ray Brown on bass with Tommy Flanagan + Roy Eldridge and Gus Johnson. Really Great !!!!!!!

  • ella is radiant in this

  • @miss30427...again u miss something...Ella did not cock anything but her vocal chords...S'wonderful"-Ella!

  • This is beautiful!

  • I love everything Ella! It is for certain that she will remain on the very top of my list of singers until I die.

  • Even the divine Ella had to cock an ear to herself to check her tune at the beginning of this song. Thank you for posting this incredible performance. Sammy gives it his all and has a grace note for everyone. He closes his eyes with pleasure when the drummer gives a nice fill at the end. He makes love to Ella during the song. He is just amazing, and Ella knows it and loves it.

  • PLEASE put the time up of these things!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nobody could swing Gershwin like the great Ella...

  • oooooh thank you, youtube, and of course rockinhillbillies, for providing the opportunity to see what I otherwise would've never seen

  • All I can say is woah.

  • unfortunatly this is the cut version and you miss some of sammy's best singing. Like cutting a picaso.

  • little by little he pushes her away from the mikrofone, not nice ...

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!

  • she's beautiful !

  • WOW is right!!!!! Fantastic!

  • And the two are backed by the marvelous Roy Eldridge on trumpet, Tommy Flanagan (p) Keter Betts (b) Gus Johnson (d). From the Ed Sullivan Show February 2, 1964.

  • Can you imagine being there when these two STARS sang together

  • I love it, R.I.P. Sammy & Ella.

  • What a great performance by 2 great singers!! I watched the Ed Sullivan show as a boy and never really appreciated some of the great jazz musicians who were guests on the show. Nice to get another chance. Thanks for posting this!!

  • Quelle classe! Je suis émerveillée : "Com on Sammy"

  • I love how Sammy says to her: "If the waters' nice i'll jump in" I think Ella took offense to him saying that, as if the water wouldn't be nice, its Ella for crying out loud! So she gives him the finger and lets him know that the water is and forever will be nice. She gives him the finger while pretending to scratch her face just as she says: "Its s'wonderful" @ 0:39 classic lol.

  • these guys had one thing that people do not have now "class"

  • The very first time I thought Beatles shouldn't have changed the world. What a coolness.

  • just so good to hear both of them together.

  • i love how sammy looks at ella while she is singing

  • Incredible...

    Fantastic..

  • This is just wonderful!

  • Chapeau! Love them so much!

  • No words only feelings great. Ella and Sammy

  • @donnajazz - perfect pitch, no autotune. The real deal back in the day and now were stuck with talentless freakazoids like Ms. Gaga and and rappers who can't and never could sing.

  • Unbelievable, a once in a lifetime video clip. I was fortunate enough to have seen BOTH of them live, but obviously not together. I saw Sammy Davis in his broadway show Golden Boy and I saw Lady Time, the first and always first lady of song very late in her career in concert. She was so frail, they helped her out onto the stage, but she sure still could SING.

    Amazing talents, both of them.

  • Lady Ella & Sammy...Now thats what you call you call T.A.L.E.N.T

  • Ed did ALOT for my folks.

    Thank you Mr. Sillivan

  • @tirayi nice sentiment my friend.

  • I can't take my eyes off of Sammy watching Ella sing that unbelievable swinging first chorus.

  • Wow.! I have no words to thank you enough.

  • Ella = Songbird

  • Ha, ha, ha, Sammy particularly liked that at 3:19.

  • Wow!!

  • Exactly...WOW!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ella gives S.D. jr. a little hell for "messing up" the ending... cute. I'd love to see the whole clip.

  • So beautiful.

  • I grew up in the 80's so missed all this. But I used to go the second hand record shop and buy records by Ella, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Motown. My friends thought I was mad. There is no-one as beautifully talented as Ella and her peers. I was born in the wrong era!

  • yeah! i know what you mean!

  • There are no entertainers like this anymore. Untouchable

  • Ella can sing to me anyday. Her voice is divine. She best be singin in Heaven.

  • all i can say is beautiful music

  • I really like how all those oldies enjoyed eachother's succes.I mean..Just look how Sammie is glowing in the back and smiling and how much fun they ALWAYS have on the stage together.Who does that these days?

  • Sammy's so cute...he was such a fanboy of Ella. :D

  • Oh I ♥ it : )

  • You should see the whole clip of this...It was up on youtube briefly...Sadly this clip is cut to pieces as they both sing it then scat it... Then Ed Sullivan sings a verse to them.....It was truly amazing ...shame that this isn't the full clip :(

  • Thank God for Ed Sullivan for bringing so much joy and talent into our homes. Sammy! Ella! It doesn't get any better.

  • This is pure a pure joy to watch, they exuded such quality of musicianship, this hasn't been surpassed. What's so admirable about good jazz is that improvisation is based on serious & deep musical knowledge, even classical musicians envy those xtra-cool cats & respect them 'cause they're a tough act to follow. They forged a legacy & are forever in our hearts. True art is a savior of hearts!

  • gosh i wish so much i could scat like that, dang, the pair of them are pure geniuses

  • It doesn't get any better than that.

  • Can you imagine how wonderful it would have felt to be in that audience? I saw Sammy Davis Jr. live once, and I'll never forget it.

  • LUCKY!!! I'm too young to have seen him live.

Definitely born in the wrong era.

  • I always thought that I too was born in the wrong era, but thanks to YouTube we can be there. I don't know why, cause I grew up in the 60's 70's, that I should love these old cats like Sammy, Dean, Frank, Mel... I enjoy everything from The Rat Pack to ZZ TOPP. Just sit back, Bro and take in all the greatness you can. There's so very much out there!

  • From an era when people really knew what "cool" was.

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!

  • Now THIS is music! I wish they did more music together.

  • Sammy Davis Jnr The greatest entertainer ever to grace the stage. Lady Ella what a voice, pure class.

  • Tommy Flanagan, piano; Roy Eldridge, trumpet. Bassist and Drummer, unknown. When I first met Ella (1968), Frank Delarosa, bass; Ed Thigpen (Oscar Peterson Trio, in its heyday), drums.

  • Ella the first beyonce......are you serious. Beyonce couldn't hold her microphone.

  • LMFAO! Soooo true Jay. Well SAID!!!!!!!

  • Pure Talent! the both of them T.A.L.E.N.T!

  • Who wouldn't simply marvel at these two, Ella makes it look so effortless, wow!

  • Beyonce learned from the First Lady Of Song... Get the facts RIGHT!!!! :-)

  • Perfect

  • That was really good!

  • absolutlely magnificent!!!!

  • Ella Fitzgerald is the Queen, the one and only, First Lady of Song. What musicality. She's sooooo cool... you can see wonderful Sammy is just completely dazed by her... those were the days!

  • S'wonderful. Marvelous. Thank God for videotape.

  • professionalism at it's best

  • Sammy Davis Jr & Ella Fitzgerald on the same stage, is a dream come true. You can tell there is a deep admiration for each other. They gave each other enough room to sing their best. I wish they would of done an album together. I guess this video will have to suffice.

  • if anyone has it please post the uncut version.

  • WOW, thanks for posting this! First Lady of Song Ella and Sammy! WOW!

  • Fabulous. Thanks for posting this!

  • that was crazy astounding

  • Ella just has a joyful voice whether she singing or just speaking

  • It continues to be my hope that someday I can finally see the whole video of this again.

  • this video is cut. Sammys's first verse is left out and that makes the second half of the piece completely off. Too bad because this as a rare and great performance. too bad it was basterdized.

  • This is from the documentary of the Ed Sullivan show of all the great clips of great talent Ed had on his show and those 2 Sammy Davis Jr. and Ella Fitzgerald, they are both legends and two of the greatest singers.

  • yes this is from the documentary about Ed Sullivan. with loads of clips . This one is edited of Sammy and Ella. They had the full clip up , but it was taken down. The point before Sammy scats is where they cut where he sang a chorus first

  • Oh wow, someone had the whole thing up? I've been looking for that for years.

  • I saved the FLV of it. Its on my hard drive or burned on a disc somewhere. I can't repost it obviously. Sofa Entertainment were the ones who put it down. So they may spot this one and take it down. Also Ella's portion singing Them There Eyes was up on youtube , may still be

  • Oh wow...I'd love it if you could email me that!
