  • What i respect about the Irish in the Civil War is that even though they weren't exactly for emancipation (because they feared blacks would take their jobs) and were treated like crap in northern cities, they answered the call and fought bravely for the Union.

  • As they have since the nation's birth, Irish-Americans continue to fill the ranks of the armed forces. In Iraq, the outfit with the strongest Gaelic roots, the old Irish 69th New York (165th in World War I & II) & now the 1/69th was given the place of greatest danger --- guarding the highway between Baghdad Airport and the city. For the unit's bravery (which ranks remain some 30% Irish) Congress passed a special resolution of recognition & thanks -- the only time it was done in that war.

  • Polish&Irish 4ever ;)

  • Great for them! Irish soldiers bring hell upon those rebel bastards!!

  • The SOUTH will rise again

  • @wmims55 We're waiting! greetings from a northern Irishman :)

  • Just my experience in school bias.

Southern soliders are not remembered as they should be.

They are remembered as the bad guys.

We decendants are tought our ancestors were monsters, they talk about Andersonville but ignore Camp Douglas. Talk about the Union soldiers who die as prisoners but ignore the 26 thousand Confederates who died as prisoners.

    This is bias.

Talking about blacks fighting for the north.

Ignoreing Mexicans and Indians fighting for the south.

    Do you understand now?

  • @TexianPride We're Americans, we must talk of both sides and teach our young both sides fought like Americans should, for what they believed, for Nation and for State, never shall we be bias of our own, too much good men died and blood was spilled for that to happen, United We Stand Divided We Fall, I fight for both sides and am hurt to see being hated by another.

  • @jacobwolf124 I respect you and your view but I cant help but wonder if we should be united with the rest of the United States.

After all the US is going to hell in a handbasket and there draging us with it.

  • @TexianPride Falling apart would only make it worst, we must stop the evil in our government, someday we will be better off but only time will tell, we've had worst before so I think we can make it.

  • @jacobwolf124 Maybe I dont know what would happen.

I do know I love this country for what it is supposed to be not what it is.

I hope one day we will see this nation become more of a union of nations rather then one nation

  • @TexianPride When we won independance from Great Britain Congress made states stronger than the National Congress, like nations, but soon the Nation was deeper in dept and had no Army to defend because states were to give money to Congress when asked and supply an Army in war, so that didn't work as well as it sounded.

  • @jacobwolf124 Todays a bit different, were no longer tiny rebelious colonys we are now full fledged nations in size with massize ecomonys

  • @TexianPride Texas likely owes its very existence to the federal government. Texas submitted several annexation requests to the US. Lets not forget the "Texas Committees" from the North that fought to protect Texas before it was a state.

The US congress approved of a resolution which Polk presented to Anson Jones. Polk required that the Rep. of Texas vote in favor of annexation before they are admitted. All but ONE member of the Rep. of Texas govt voted to join the Union. Nothing was forced.

  • @TexianPride You are suggesting that Southern Caucasians are demonized? What type of proof do you have? American children are taught about the civil war starting in grade school.

Or are you upset at how the information is presented? That the South fought for the right to enslave human beings? That they lost? I don't get it.

If it wasn't for the Federal Government, Texas might not be a state today. Surely you heard of the "Texas Committees" created in the North that came and fought.

  • Umm I have ancestors who were involved in the confederacy, while they may have had the right to leave the union once they fired on fort sumter well the rest is history.

  • God bless the 10th Tennessee and those Irishmen that fought for Freedom.

  • Im done I no longer care.

You will defend the Union and there imperialism and greed I will defend the Confederacy and there slavery and dreams of independance.

But I will say this, 150 years later the south has changed the United States has not.

  • @TexianPride The United States hasn't changed socially in 150 years? What the hell are you talking about? That is absurd.

No offense, but the South seems to fight every major social change. Where did federal troops have to go to protect African American CHILDREN walking to school? Hell, even today most opposition to gay marriage (our generation's civil rights struggle) occurs in the South.

  • @815Sox So imperialism and greed is no longer what drives the United States government.

Gay rights occurs all over the world especially in socially conservative regions of course the south and midwest are not for gay marriage there are no gays in these regions to speak of.

Personally I believe gays should have rights equal to marriage but not acually be married.

This is the common way of thinking in the South.

To compare gay rights to black rights is offensive.

    Gays have it much better

  • The south will pay back the US someday.

The union will break and when it does, I hope God is as mercifull as they say he is.

We may disagree but thats how it is after all your people are murderers and rapists Im sure you feel obligated to defend your murderous ancestors

Have a good day and God Bless

  • @TexianPride Yeah. My great-grandfather was from South Carolina, by the by. 'My people', indeed.

  • @Ares99999 A traitor to your blood line then.

    Much better lol

Im sure your grandad is real proud of your insensitivity toward your kins suffering.

  • @TexianPride Delusional. Not denying that some bad things happened during the Civil War (as they do in all wars), but both sides committed them. The south will not rise again, and if the Union does dissolve someday it will not be because of a second Southern Secession.

The South made the decision to secede from the Union because the rich southerners wanted to protect slavery (free labor for them). Like all wars, the poorest ended up doing most of the fighting.

    The South started the war.

  • @815Sox You have said the same things the last guy said if you want answers to your questons read my old comments.

You are either playing dumb or ignoreing the facts.

Southerners are not portrayed fairly in hollywood

In schools we are remmebered as the "bad guys", as a boy our class in 5th grade was seperated in to north and south.

The teacher then asked for two vollunteers to be Lee and Grant when my good friend Lee vollunteered to be Lee she said he shouldnt be so proud to be a traitor

  • The fact the presidents could win without the souths vote proved to the south the US was no longer equal the north could out vote the south every time.

Northern laws in the south and the south cant do anything to stop it.

That was a huge controversy in the south.

Which lead to the ralleying cry States rights.

  • The southern fighting man was a poor man they had no slaves to fight for.

They were poor men fighting for there homeland.

After all the number of vollunteers jumped the the hundreds of thousands after the Union delcared war on the south and began there invasion.

This is somthing that should be apparent to anyone with any grip on history.

Theres a reason why dissertion in the Army of Tennessee was so high after Tennessee fell.

Because there was nothin left to fight for. There home was conquered

  • @TexianPride Nope. It was the south which fired on Fort Sumter. The South declared war by trying to take clear federal property by force.

Obviously, you have a very deep 'Lost Cause' affinity. Nearly 150 years and still can't live defeat down.

  • @Ares99999 Rofl you completely missed my point.

    I said

"Let me help you understand this I must have been going to fast for you to keep up.

After all the number of vollunteers jumped the the hundreds of thousands after the Union delcared war on the south and began there invasion."

I was talking about the number of men who vollunteered in response to Lincolns announceing the invasion of the southern states.

Id also like to point out 4 states also seceeded AFTER lincoln declared war

  • @TexianPride Ah, I see. Heh. Such sore losers. Unable to live defeat down.

I'm done. Have fun fighting for a cause that General Lee himself didn't believe was anything but a mistake to begin with. Ciao.

  • @Ares99999 Im sure if it were your ancestors who were unjustly invaded and conquered then forced to join an empire at gunpoint.

If the north lost and the horrors the US inflicted on us done in reverse and it was Chicago not Atlanta burned to the ground Im sure you to would remember.

We were defeated and your ancestors murdered and raped our people burned our land and have held our people down for 150 years.

We lost I accept this, but Im not going to forget my ancestors suffering.

  • @TexianPride Because as far as you're concerned, only the North wanted a fight. So did the South. Reason had gone out the window on both sides.

  • @Ares99999 Of course both sides had war mongers its the human way.

Every 17 year old boy in the damn country wanted to go kill some rebs/Yanks.

Sadly to many boys in blue and gray got there wish.

In the end no one won that war the south lost its freedom the United States lost its reason for existing freedom died when the Union forced the millions of southerners to join the Union at gunpoint

  • @TexianPride I will agree with you that it is sad that so many had to die and lose loved ones during the civil war. The Civil War was the first "modern" war, towards the end it even featured trench warfare. Tactics had not caught up to weapons technology.

The Civil War was a harbinger for the horrors that were to come in WWI. WWI was a far more important war that ours and many Southern Doughboys, whose fathers fought for the CSA, fought and sacrificed proudly for the United States of America.

  • Poor men mislead to there fate, they leave there homeland to escape tyrany and they arrive in america to be drafted to tyranize others.

God bless em, my grandaddy chose to fight for the rebels in gray in Georgia.

    God bless the Irish.

We whooped them yankees good before they took us down

  • @TexianPride But they took your ANCESTORS - not YOU - down. Now shut up and listen to the song.

  • @Ares99999 Hey punk , why dont you go fight for uncle sam ? TexianPride is correct, the poor fuckin Irish that were forced to fight for the Union had no choice & they were very mislead! The Irish that fought for the south had a cause! (defend your land). this had nothing to do with slaves!. Ireland has been in a civil war forever! & back then they were put in another one here..Col. Tommie McNally of Atlanta..

  • @tommieparch Yes, because its well known that the southern cause had nothing to do with slavery, especially since the CSA's constitution pretty much enshrined it.

  • @tommieparch And by the way, how was what I said to TexianPride any concern of yours?

  • @Ares99999 Its any mans concern when someone is disrespecting somone.

Unlike you we were raised with manners.

The southern Confederacy supported slavery, but the only slave owners were the rich elite. The upper class if you will.

The average Irish southerner, most southerners for that matter were not slave holders this is easily verified by the 1860 census taken just before the war.

7% of southerners owned slaves according the Federal Government of the United States of America

  • @TexianPride Ah. So 7% were slave-owning elites, and the remaining 93% were dupes who fought for a Constitution which was, except for slavery, completely the same as that USA's except for completely cosmetics - and which did not regard the common man - changes. Did you read both Constitutions side by side? I did. Do it. You'll see it.

So you're saying that the southern people fought for rights... that they already had before they started fighting. Not smart.

  • @Ares99999 Once again the completely miss the point.

The southern man fought for the south because they felt wronged.

I have read both Constitutions its been awhile but yes Im aware of the similarities.

I also remember more focus of states rights then federal rights.

The souths entire platform for sesession was slavery and more power to the states.

I think its obvious why the southern people left.

Lincon won the presidency without the southern vote.

    CONT

  • God bless America who has always been a great friend to Ireland. And God bless the brave men and women of the US Military who are fighting against Muslim Fascism around the world.

  • What Muslim Fascism, exactly, is the US fighting against? There aren't many self-professed fascists left around, let alone Muslim ones. You should be a bit more concerned with local oppressors than foreign ones- Fight your Capitalist masters, not the down-trodden.

  • Irish are always welcome in America. Hell they make up most Americans.

  • @Trashcansam123 germans are most prevalent

  • @erness11111 Figures. My moms side is German and Irish. And I'm part Polish, they also make up alot of Americans.

  • @erness11111

50.000.000 US-American citizens have German roots.

The Germans fought for Lincoln and the Union. All immigrants were brave soldiers.

  • was it not the case that my Irish ancestors were made to fight in war they did'nt have a clue about to stop conscription.

  • Nice song. Greetings from Spain

  • You freakin hicks still flyin the confederate flag do realize that the Civil war has been over right? This is the land of the free, any human being has the same rights given to them at birth in this awesome country, so by supporting the Confederacy you are slandering the foundation of America itself, equality.

  • Thank you Lads of the Union Irish Brigades. Your deeds will live on.

  • Long live the CSA and Lincolnkillers. Death to gay-jewish masonic Washington.

  • @andrija1978 Your CSA didn't last 4 years.

  • @redsoul888 we will see how long US will last. Even post communist states in east europe have now an higher standard of living.

  • @andrija1978 Wait till the European Union gets done with you. You will be worse then us.

  • @andrija1978 whats wrong with Jews and gays. Personally i think jews are great and gays are tolerable, also i think Lincoln killers is two words and lastly the CSA is gone

  • @theduckfan13 great jews: communists (marx, trotsky, lenin, rosa-luxemburg) 300 mill. victims, kaganovic 6 mill. victims, harris & klebold 12 victims, gamblers (rothschilds, lehmann brothers, merril lynch, b.madoff & g..soros) 100 million financial victims and apparently you as hoolywood and pc brainwashed victim.

all gays are mentally and physically sick. when do you celebrate your gaetan dugas memorial day?

  • @Vassilli42 Proud of my Irish ancestors who sacrificed for the Union! Some even gave the ultimate sacrifice. They knew the Union must be preserved and it was! Thank God the Union was preserved!

  • @Vassilli42 Erin Go Bragh

  • What a big fuckin fail it is,what a great song though

  • And even if there wa uncle Sam ppl that time would often use Columbia as a replacement

  • @gamer7916 the concept of uncle sam began in the war of 1812

  • I just said "hello" on your channel. I've been listening to your music and wanted to thank you. This is a great video and I was listening to The Dreadful Engagement, among others. Your songs and videos are excellent. Thank you so much!

  • mighty loony?

  • Patty? his name is patty? MY MOMMY'S NAME IS PATTY!

  • @adgthlover9 A lot of Irish names are both girl and boys names.

  • @jacobwolf124 like men having mary as a middle name

  • @theboyoofoly Which is mostly their mother's first name, yes.

  • @adgthlover9 Paddy not Patty Paddy is an Irish male name...

  • @Jeffanos *face palm* dude/lady, i'm a freaking 11 year old...my teachers teach us NOTHING about this stuff, you really expect me to know that? and please don't do that ever..it just decreases my enthusiasm and confidence.

  • @adgthlover9 well, then take it as you learn something new everyday, and continue on with redoubled enthusiasm. as you said, you are only 11, you still have much to learn, look beyond what you teachers tell you, for they are unlikely to give you the whole picture.

  • @ImperialGuard322nd They never really do...

  • ya irish ,britain, and america the best places in the world :)

  • @pie11527 Yeeeep.

  • (confused_ So like.. my family decends from Kentucky, which during the civil war was a southern state, but I live in Ohio now. So..i don't know if i should be northern or southern. (I'd much like to be northern)

  • @adgthlover9

Lincoln was from Kentucky too, and many Kentuckians fought for the Union. You've got every right to identify with the North.

  • "A foe without hate, a friend without treachery, a soldier without cruelty, a victor without oppression, and a victim without murmuring. He was a public officer without vices, a private citizen without wrong, a neighbour without reproach, a Christian without hypocrisy, and a man without guile. He was a Caesar, without his ambition, Frederick, without his tyranny, Napoleon, without his selfishness, and Washington, without his reward."

-Benjamin Harvey Hill on General Robert E. Lee

  • Thanks guys. While you were fighting each other Sir John A. had time to form a country.

  • I wish we brits had come into the American civil war, the world would be a better place with the United States of America.

  • THE UNION IS FALLING TIME TO ATTACK CONFEDERATESS!!

They were called it by the English invaders

At home in the eve of ninety eight

  • @Tao1519 There's 10,000 Irish songs and only 1,000 Irish tunes ;)

  • @Paganwarrior2000 Nice! :) Nowadays Hungarians have ~500,000 folk songs. At the time when we came to East-Center Europe from the Center of Asia we had more, just we forgot them.. xD

And how big is Germany. There are 70 million germans.. they have 2000 folksongs.. from Tirol, jodel / jodli..

And they try to kill East... funny. what do they want... they aren't a folk..

  • Im lost in all this mess.... who the fuck were the irish fightin for in this war?.

  • @AyeOkNowFuckOff Both the US and CSA fielded Irish units.

  • @AyeOkNowFuckOff 180,000 fought for the Union, 40,000 fought for the Confederacy.

  • send dem yanks straight to hell,Confederate Pride

  • @jackasskidzify You first you God damn rebel, USA FOREVER!

  • @aguyfromTennessee why you insultin the confederacy,your from tennessee,by the way,Confederate Forever

  • You are all talking about how the north attacked the south becuase of slavery but its wrong the war was about cotton taxes what would have starved. And north wanted to take away souths freedom abd add it to union but its wrong because dixie has it's own heritage and culture the north union took away a little country's freedom.I am not and rebel or confederate but damn i'm sure not an yankee who kills others to get 300 dollars thumbs up if you agree!

  • you fight for your old man, we'll fight for the hard working, strong, and brave Johnny reb!

  • HE LEAD US INTO A GLORY HOLE!!

  • un segundo esa es una version de wiskey in the jar

  • Irish blood and proud of it! Faugh-ah-Balluagh!!!

  • the confederacy only fought to end taxes the south had 30% of the population in america and supplyed 80% of the unions tax money the south fought for the same reson that we fought in the revilution but they didnt win becouse the north was bigger and industrialized. and dont point the racist card the genral of the union had slaves till the 13th amendment. the blackes were treted equil or better in the military then the whites while the union treted them badly. dont say i got it mixed up.

  • @TheCooKiwiKlan The Confederacy fought to preserve slavery. The Cornerstone speech, the South Carolina declaration of secession, and Confederate Constitution make this explicitly clear. The statements of southern leaders and people impeach them.

It wasn't til after the war ended that southerners tried to say the rebellion was about states' rights, yet the only states' right they could ever refer to was slavery. (Which isn't a state's right, it's an individual one.)

  • @JohnnyC133 the civil war was about north's cotton tax too.because of the tax southerns had to get more slaves and make more profit for living. So acculy the north cause the war.And another thing the north's reason to attack rhe south because of the shooting at that port was false info it was a reason to get more troops and lie about the south. So please red even one history book before you right comments that aren't true.

  • @ihaten1ggas Fort Sumter was a U.S. federal fort that the Confederacy opened fire on first when Abraham Lincoln attempted to send in provisions. The Confederacy fired first, they started the war.

The North taxed the south...okay, so what? The tax was passed by the U.S. Congress which has the power under the Constitution to do so. If the south disagreed, they could disagree through Congress rather than by shattering the Union. So you need to research history and learn to spell before commenting

  • @JohnnyC133 Yep

  • @JohnnyC133 The North over taxed the South because the South wanted to trade out of the U.S. so the U.S. taxed them with large taxes and tariffs. The North also wanted internal improvements sponsored by the federal government. This was more roads, railroads, and canals. The South, on the other hand, did not want these projects to be done at all.

  • @AUG351 The South already traded outside the U.S., with Britain and France being their main customers for cotton. The North levied the taxes to protect northern industries which would be destroyed by a lack of internal commerce from the South.

The North liked the idea of improving the nation, the South didn't. Is that supposed to be a point in their favor?

But once again, secession was unnecessary in a republican-style government, where the South could have protested the tax in Congress.

  • @JohnnyC133 Both of you are full of shit. This war was about slavery. Slavery is wrong. Deny it all you want.

  • @SheikhTaqiyyameister If you had taken ten seconds to look back at my previous arguments, you'd see I'd already made that point and presented evidence to prove it.

    Now shut the fuck up.

  • @SheikhTaqiyyameister Wrong, and almost right. The war started over state's rights, then progressed to war on slavery after the emancipation proclamation. Slavery was just one many issues between the north and south.

  • @P0rnWizard the confederate constitution makes a rather big deal about protecting slavery

  • @1991Historybuff Not to mention the South Carolina declaration of secession and the Cornerstone Speech.

  • @P0rnWizard Actually lincoln only gave the emancipation proclamation to free the slaves in the states who were in rebellion... and that was only done to keep the british out of the war. because the british had outlawed slavery before this time and that made the war about slavery.

  • From Maryland so don't know which to press

  • the only reason the north won they had more irish

  • @50TNCSA, Nope! The Irish Brigade Failed Miserably... :/ The North Had the Powers of Uncle Sam! Thats why the Unites States Won!

  • northern people drink soda and get fat

  • God bless the Union and UNITED states of AMERICA!

  • @ghoststrider45 Fuck you. God bless the Confederate and the confederate states of america

  • I guess I'm both,I'm from Kentucky I love em both too don't hate one when we're brothers, old Abe wouldn't what us to hate one.

  • i had 2 people fight in this war 1 union and 2 confederates southeners died and the union hero live.

  • any one got the chords of the song?

  • this is to the tune of whiskey in the jar

  • im from ireland i was born and partly raised there but i found out that my great grandfather fought for General McCellan in the irish brigade before he moved back to County Cork

  • The American Civil War was indeed a war that split families...in my family there's a story that one cousin went to fight for the rebels and another for the Union...that was the last time the two thought they would see each other...turns out that the union cousin's unit took prisoners after a battle among whom was his rebel cousin...On the union cousin's suggestion to his commander, the rebel cousin was allowed to go back home...

I guess blood is thicker than gunpowder... :)

  • Anyone that knows the Civil War knows that the English back the south until the Emancipation Proclimation. The English had some good business with the South and even sent troops to Canada as a precaution that they could take advantage of the situtions.

  • @gray19801 I think it is a bit of a stretch to say that British support for the Confederacy was anything but cursory. Some factions within HM Government supported the Confederacy, but the Queen and the broader British public would not have stood for a pro-slavery intervention. The only way the British would have come on board would have been a vast change of policy, a bad incident at sea, or when the Confederacy seemed sure to win.

  • @ajferet I will give you that but from what I have read over the years is that the Brits had a good trade with the south more so than the north. Also one of the reason the Emancipation Proclimation was signed was because the Brits would not support any government that had slaverly. Most of what was considered the western states, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa Minnesota, Wisconsin, etc did not care one bit about the slavery issue for the most part as they were rural.

  • @ilovetowank88 You are correct as many a German immigrant fought for the north. We fight with Mitz Siegel was there cry.

  • My moms dad was Irish my dads was german and her mom was Scotish and his mom was Scandivia. So i am 25% Irish German Scottish Scandivia 100% American

  • for what did you fight fellows? for Uncle Sam or for Rothschilds or for whites becoming minority ?

  • 26th MASS!!

  • I'm American and proud of my Irish Heritage.

  • @zjohnson2814 im 50% dane 25% irish 25% german, and my girlfreind is an american whit danish irish german herritage, ironic.

  • @zjohnson2814 : Same here

  • Uncle Same - a fictitious character. You are gonna fight for a make believe person? Might as well since all the "virtues" you are told you are fighting for are just lies, Lies, LIES. Just look at what "Uncle Sam" has done to himself. Look at the mess the USA is in. THAT is what the Yanks were fighting for. And all those "freed slaves"? Look where their descendants are now - in the ghetto selling crack, robbing, raping, killing, and the rest are in prison. & in the WHITE HOUSE? MULATTO

  • @YambidiBlamBlam Help me out here - are you someone with honest concerns about how the US has drifted away from its values, or just a random racist?

  • What VALUES? I"m talking about REAL honest values, not the crap about "Truth, Justice, Liberty, Freedom, and Democracy that we are force fed from day 1. Rote Slogans reflect no more truth than the sound bytes so effectively used nowadays. Human nature does not change. I'm sure the Romans talked about how they were some kind of beacon of light and hope for civilization. It's all JIVE.

  • @YambidiBlamBlam and the whole counrtys full of fake people who still choke down all the slogan/ sound bites& other fecal matter those in power feed them

  • @YambidiBlamBlam it's really not fair to blame all black men for the actions of a select few, in Washington state for every black man hooked on drugs or locked up there's at least white men in the same boat. most around here actually join the military.

  • @YambidiBlamBlam heck ya, any more we are just as bad as rus.,we have no honor and freedom,we steal from other countries and kill dictators who we dont even know, only difference between us and rus. is in russia ur killed if the goverment doesnt like u,here u are indefinatly detentioned, and ur totaly right about blacks, this country would be much better off if the south won, suprised it isnt the black party house.. yet. i wish we had a true u.s.a where the gov is just and the right thing is done

  • I had ten family memers who fought in the 49th new york infantry regiment they stood by uncle sam and so have i

  • Thumbs up if you had family on both sides. (Dont thumbs up... just say'n ;)

  • This is SUCH a catchy song!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • Union Forever!!

  • @SoulBuyer155 Totally agree!!
