The go gos formed in 78 a full year before altered images and even had the very popular single "we got the beat" out a full year before altered images. In early 79 they also had a 6 song record out that was punk with keyboards(they were experimenting with new wave too).

Altered images came after the go gos. The Go gos created that whole girl vibe at the beach. Before that it was late 1950s L.A. bands.

1.49. I saw them support Siouxsie and the Banshee's at Tiffany's (i think) in Sauchihall Street in Glasgow in 1980. I have seen her about Glasgow a few times. I think Tiffany's is now a Casino at the Charing Cross end of Sauchihall St. Great memories.

At 3:10 when Clare said that she can "see why" the critics saw Altered Images the way they did and She admitted to "over doing it". I don't think Altered Images actually did over do it. I think a lot of critics including listeners just judged a book by it's cover. The group was very Light as well as very dark at times. Just listen to some of the lyrics & topics. This group was fantastic at both light and shade. Just that critics over simplified by looking for the obvious and missed a lot.

I thought they were great. I thought Claire was incredibly cute and still is. I heard of them in the US through MTV in the early 1980s. I thought they had a great sound and liked their songs. I get a kick out of people criticizing them for being too up beat. You could say the same thing about the Go-Gos or other bands of the time. Give me a break. What did you accomplish at 19 or 20? I loved all the new wave music of that time. It was a great time to come of age.
