Mckinney seems more interested in her own publicity than in the "human rights of the Palestinian people"...there are far more effective ways to be helpful, deliver aid, etc. I've been on two medical mission trips to the Palestinian territories with little to no interference from the Israelis...but this outcome should be expected when running a naval blockade and really helps no one. The gendered nature of the control of the prison cellblock isn't really surprising to me, but it's obviously rather outrageous. My understanding is IDF service is compulsory for every able-bodied, non-Orthodox Israeli, so there's no shortage of female service-personnel. Presumably this wasn't an IDF prison (or am I wrong?), but the point still stands that if women can (and legally must) serve in the IDF, they can certainly guard the women's block of the prison.
