  • @donnywal well, I've been a somewhat assiduous digger for a while and I didn't know about this album. So the connection with Paul's Boutique is a good info to me :)

  • @donnywal but I admit after listening to the track, that the sample was very obvious. They most often are, after all.

  • OMFG O_O i couldnt even even click 2 another song it was like the rhythem of the song juss disabled me physically and my soul juss took over

  • steve gadd is amazing

  • the DUST BROTHERS sampled this track - for the beastie boys. if yall get a chance to hear or read about how "pauls" was made... get on it!

  • @2u9h it's on “Ill Communication” as well

  • I believe The Beastie Boys used this as the background for a song on the album, Paul's Boutique.

  • Nice going man ; )

  • Car thief to be precise.

  • Yeah, right. "Car Thief". Good memory. Now, I'm not so sure what I think about using other people's music like that, though.

  • It's an art, just like creating music.

  • Yeah I thought it was bad for artists to sample like that but it was a New York/hip-hop thing to sample back in '89 and I think the Beastie Boys used it well and turned it into something new. For me being about 13 and hearing Beastie Boys Car Thief, this track by Funk Factory would have otherwise been inaccessable to me. Thanks to the Beastie Boys and their sampling I've discovered so much beautiful music. The Beastie always seem to sample music lovers music. Not too pop and from a broad range.

  • @DieMenschMaschine85 That's an interesting point that some songs would be unheard by some if they weren't sampled.

  • @ganyuehan : Cheers for the reply. Did you hear this song as it was released at the time? Just curious.

  • @DieMenschMaschine85 If you mean this original Funk Factory one, no, not at the time. Lately I've had a thing for fusion and funk and came across this song.

  • Roy Ayers, I meant.

  • Cool. Was just wondering it was released or if it was well known back then. Would you reccomend any any tracks like this? Recently I've been listening to some Funk/Fusion myself but because there's a Fusion radio station in GTA IV called Fusion FM. David Axelrod and David McCallum - "The Edge and Funk in the Hole" by Gong are some of the tracks on it.

  • @DieMenschMaschine85 I have some other funk/fusion tracks, but don't know if they'd be your thing or not. They're a bit different from this one. If you're interested, I could send you links in a message.

  • ...Hmm... this is not what I was looking for... I guess there are two funk factories? I just can't find the other one. ....Sorry for commenting on the video for something useless....Thank you for uploading, I am sure it has pleased others.

  • Soooo Funky! YEEEAAAH!!

  • fantastica questa ! bravo Morris!

    slowfunk..

  • Bass - Anthony Jackson

    Drums - Steve Gadd

    Engineer [Recording & Re-mix] - Gene Paul

    Percussion - Bernard Kafka

    Producer, Strings - Michal Urbaniak*

    Synthesizer - Wlodek Gulgowski

    Vocals - Urszula Dudziak

  • @djmorrisoundof70 Thanks a lot! I was always wondering if Dudziak '(then wife of Urbaniak) was singing here

  • does anyone know the musicians on this album? i know the drummers are steve gadd and gerald brown, and the lead is michael urbaniak. anyone know any of the others?

  • the beasties sampled this on Car Thief. And they sampled some of the drum cuts on other songs. sounds GREAT!

  • @jonesde254 : yeah, no kidding, thanks for the obvious

  • @jonesde254 I always feel like singing "Ain't nothing but a car thief"

  • Nice track!

  • Like Mass Production's Firecracker, this is a song every bit as cool (and far more family and office friendly) as the rap songs that used them as backtracks. I dig these original nuggets of good times.

  • This is a totally sweet jam in it's own right. Ima buy this yo.

  • never heard of this cut before, or the band either... but they have a nice blend of Herbie Hancock and P-Funk going on here. pretty cool stuff!

  • Thanks sooooo much for posting this. I've been wondering what that hella funky beat was behind the Beastie Boys 'Car Theif' track for yonks....now I know!!
