Play to your strengths. Fights hardly ever end on the feet in real life.

I have seen it used in Judo, Aikido, Chin Na, Jujitsu, etc. Each style puts their own spin on it, but it's all the same. Most techniques are universal. My problem with ground fighting is that people tend to think it's the best way to fight. I think if you learn how to stay on your feet and not get taken down all the time, you wouldn't need too much ground fighting.
@kinneas As far as being on your back. If you are simply taken down without a mount, it is best to roll to you side in a defensive position to take out the legs. Either trap and lock them, or kick the knee. Now if you are mounted or the person is stuck to you, then that's a differnt story, then you use the guard. But I see alot of these guys get knocked down, and they stay on their back. I would go to my side. You can still turn to keep the person from getting to your back.

Funny thing is both Okami and Silva are used to fighting under rules where even stomping a ground opponent's head is allowed... so as far as both fighters are concerned. Okami lost fair and square.
