Yet he's much more than a High Note player ... and he can just as easily play silky smooth in the lower register or burn over changes ... all round no one eclipses his talent ... a virtuoso
when he plays high notes his fat rolls covers his eyes. thus making him blind. and never mess with a blind fat trumpet player squeezing out a high note... they'll explode on you
If you want to play higher, the BEST thing to do is lip slurs. Going from like, C to Lower C, B to Lower B, etc etc. A real king of the high notes is Arturo Sandoval and Maynard Ferguson. Check them out.
@SpookysOwner1 when you go for that A just push it from your abdominal muscels and blow fast; fast and abdominal push air is the secret to hight notes and also try not to use loads of pressure on your lips or tense up because it wll sound very rawcus. if you want to practise getting those As pitch a G and then go up to A and remember: push with your stomach and relax
James and Arturo are a lot alike in their approach to the trumpet. They both have a ton ot technique, however, sometimes they get a little lost on their own pyrotechnics at times.
When you aren't playing with any chord changes and you are just moving your fingers and blowing as high as you can, that not jazz. That's called showboating.
What I want to know is where the chord changes are. It's a solo so he gets to play whatever he wants because nobody else is playing. He doesn't have to match them. You're an idiot.
Why do there have to be changes? Can't one just play their own changes superimposed over a single chord, or lack of chords? Ever play Tonic, Dominant, Tonic tonal centers on a modal tune with only one chord? Ever think a horn player can MELODICALLY create changes in a linear fashion? Ever read Liebmans Chromatic Jazz book? Do you know anything about Jazz...or do you just write ignorant things on YouTube all day?
haah brecfhelt called ME ignorant? I'm not the one who wants to play Tonic, Dominant, Tonic tonal centers on a MODAL tune. Go to school or you shall be schooled brecfhelt.
Try it sometime. Superimpose a systematic set of perceived changes over Impressions. You might be surprised with the tensions and extension it creates. You don't always HAVE to "read the changes." That was my point.
that really isnt true. Jazz is playing what you feel not what people want to hear. sure it helps if people like it if you aim to become famous but true jazz musicians are the ones who just play from their soul and dont care about the crowd or the fame and glory
I actually got to tell Mr Morrison in person that he is the reason that I will continue to play music till the day I die! thank you so much Mr. Morrison!
Have you heard sex in a pan? Or his solo albums. I will give you most of his stuff with bela fleck is somewhat pointless but sex in a pan is funky and his solo on sinister minister on their live album is just disgusting. I think Victor wins hands down. Jaco has got a really great beat but chuck rainy wins there hands down. I say victor is numba 1
Okay i just ate my own words.Good Job morris :)..But electronic trumpets still suck.
