  • My one and only love - cello improvisation

  • was that really improvised? word up

  • way to go, stephan !

  • *________*

aparte de tocar bn,está weno xDD

  • immer wieder toll :)

  • pretty awesome y0

  • Wahnsinn! Bist du irgendwann mal in Köln?

  • wow: he is handsome and good!

  • you sound very much like a Hindustani classical artist.......it a indian classical style.....

  • Your hands must be very very strong. Its really a great improvisation.

  • Wow, after a shite practise session, this is just the sort of thing I need to see/hear to keep going at cello. Danke sehr!

  • I listened to the guy a few hours ago live, in Bucharest, at Europafest, and I must say he's just great !!! I wasn't expected that. Too bad I couldn't take him an interview. Definitely would've enjoyed that. :)

  • Espectacular !!

  • amazing.

  • Ich bin gefesselt...

  • Incredible!What cello pickup do u use?

  • SCHERTLER (swiss pickup)

  • I'm transcribing this song

  • It's very very incredible. You have acquired techniquu with your bow that I've nerver seen yet. Im very surprised and I hope so I'l do it in the future ! Thank you very much !

  • What does 'sound jazzy' have to do with anything? It's an improvisation. You're probably thinking it has to sound like Davis or Coltrane or something similar right? It's a cello, a different sound than is often found in the usual jazz sound so of course it's going to sound different, but it's an improvisation so it's all good.

  • Genial wie immer...^^

  • Bravo!!

  • wow

    good technique

  • Sorry, I didn't mean to be that rude, I was drunk! But srsly, it doesn't sound jazzy at al :c

  • Amazing !

  • Wow...you're awesome!!! I totally love your piece!

  • Comment removed

  • thanks, but it is an impro - evry night different ;-)

  • yes, but I mean, it's structured right? even that it`s not written it`s pretty much structured, right.

it`s not a free impro, is it?

  • Great playing and awesome piece. Simply love it! If you play every night different why don't you share it with us on youtube? I'd love to hear some more :D greets

  • sorry, but mostly there is a camera missing...

  • This was good but it's not fucking jazz.

  • ok - no blue note... haha

  • Phantastisch!!

  • MÁGNIFIC

  • Einfach nur ... begnadet... Eine Freude, dir zuzusehen. Danke auch für das tolle Konzert im Gewandhaus Leipzig am 6.6.09. Stephan hat mindestens einen Fan mehr! MICH!

  • Yeah Stephan - I know this piece. Cooles Video, Alter!

  • impressive the rythm guitar/cello tecnique. Well done.

  • this guy is clearly into squarepusher

  • i wish he could make sheet music for this!

  • lol i din know cello can play like this...

  • bravo on the left hand pizzacato and bowed spicatto. sick.

  • This is not improv, but nice post editing.

  • hm... why not improv? do you know the composer? ;-)

  • Why not, because 'improvisation' basically means [composition] 'made without prior preparation'; extemporaneously. Unless Stephan did this on the spot, it's not improv. I really like this performance (gave it 5* rating), so I'm not hating on the title. Did he make it up on the spot? If so, this performance is incredibly inspirational, shows serious masterful skill, and I'll shut my mouth! :)

  • hi Stephan, gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut!!! auch die anderen Videos ... Schöne Grüße

  • Thank's for posting this delighting impro. Great job!

  • oh that is friggin amazing.

  • did you guys for reals not know about chopping?? ive been playing for 6 years, and chopping for 3 of them... its not rocket science, but to whoever plays in this vid...Rock on!

  • i'm so glad i'm from a school district where the high school cellists learn how to chop...

  • Great playing! I am impressed.

  • very smart... well done.

  • emmmm, Bueno, no suena a Jazz, al principio.. pero es un gran trabajo.. Excelente

  • te apoyo, es mas me sono mas a un rock... aunque igual es muy impresionante

  • Haha, well it probably wasn't improv, but who cares, it's flipping AMAZING!

Did you use echo on the night (with that mic) or is that just in the video?

I have to say, 1:08 to 1:44, I could not HELP 'dancing' (i.e. wiggling my fingers about and generally acting like a fool to the music) to it.

    Shockingly good.

  • This isn´t jazz. And it ain´t improvisation either. But anyway, really good.

  • Hoho...

  • How the **** did you get that coordination between R and L hands from 1:08 to 1:44?? Amazing!!

  • thanks, it's more about the bow-technics - it's called: chopping.

  • Gosh, thanks! I've been experimenting with it since I saw you on youtube. It's really fun! It sounds silly, but I've had to train my left hand not to follow my right... it feels SO odd!!

Are you doing concerts in australia?

  • Great Rhytm and groove!

Ok nice!Check out my videointroduction to

    Alex Iberer´s Jazzfusion cello school!!

    Feel free to post comments!

    Best Regards Alex

  • I don't think that's jazz.

  • Can you tell WHAT is jazz?

  • It was good, but It wasn't jazz. It was more percussion and beat music or something. Jazz isn't this.

  • But, WHAT is jazz... ;-)

  • ALL the jazz I've ever heard had some minor 7ths in there, some blue notes. I didn't hear any of those. It was great playing but I don't think people who know jazz better than I would call it jazz.

  • ummm... since when is jazz classified by the amount of dominant 7ths in it?

  • this just blew my mind...now i want to learn how to chop. i like this guy.

  • WOW!! UR Amazing!!

Hi Stephan, did u use a looper?? or just a little reverbe?

  • thanks, it's just a reverb...

  • it's actually a delay, but who cares, it's awesome. I just came across this, and wow is all I can say. You are incredible, man. Loved when you started playing down toward the bridge and getting all those harmonics whistling.

  • i want his e-mail if you can

  • look at "more informations"

  • When are you coming to America? Amazing

  • Fascinante, gracias Stephan!

  • that was wonderful!

  • I love your airier sounds and your skin

  • Cellist from Québec here, That's amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Super!!!

  • der hammer, stephan!! das reißt mit...

  • Reminds me of August Rush... Cool

  • Impresionante
