  • Damn, he sounds nearly identical to Young in this.

  • Thank you, based Thom.

  • simply beautiful......sparse & haunting.......pay tribute to the ones who came before, made you feel, paved the way......radiohead, one of the most brilliant bands ever covers a legend...pretty cool I would have never guessed

  • Brilliant cover. Thanks for posting.

  • Excellente reprise. Mais, à l'oreille, je préfère la version de Neil Young.

  • Fuck all the negative comments. Thom has said in many an interview how much he respects Neil Young's contribution to the music industry. This is a brilliant cover albeit it uniquely different in some parts - I love it.

  • thanks radiohead.

  • is it really thom?

  • @pfah4216 .. sorry. defs TY

  • What a great cover

  • adorable cover, realy nice!

  • the best neil young song, sung by the best band

  • You can hear how influanced by Neil young that Thom Yorke is, one genius following another. Thank you so much for this song Neil it means alot to me.

  • bravo

  • wow this is beautiful. 1st time hearing it. wow..........

  • Thom Yorke is genius!

  • lets devote all comments to the wording of the title,

  • my baby loves Western movies

  • the only band i can think of that can do this amazing song justice. one of neil's best and most underrated songs ever

  • What the great sing by neil young and what the greater cover it is,no?

  • @nusratfatehlovers ABSOLUTELY NOT. great cover though

  • @nusratfatehlovers No but it's a good cover

  • I have loved Neil ever since I was a child but I prefer this over the original.

  • This is a great one for Thom to be singing, it's all about fame-induced depression (at least it deals with it)

  • I fucking love Neil Young covers by Radiohead. They are so great.

  • that was amazing

  • So...ummm...the hair is still standing up on the back of my neck from that!!!

  • im glad i came across this vid...made me get the neil young album which im enjoying immensely

  • i see lots of bickering comments from self important college students. you know, if you all would just stfu then there would be no idiotic argument, would there?

    holy shit i'm a hypocrit

  • I actually think Thom kind of sounds just like Neil at some points.

  • What a fuckin' GREAT SONG!

  • i feel really so sorry for radiohead. they are such a brilliant band, but have some of the most horribly elitist fans ive ever had the misfortune of encountering

  • @brucechrist You're comment has three up votes? That's so mainstream and corporate.

  • @theArcadehead You know nothing about Radiohead, or Thom Yorke then. I am truly sorry for your lack of understanding. They are popular for a logical reason. My guess is you haven't a clue about the man they are covering either. Now go off and listen to your shitty band that has 300 views and makes you feel like you are special for knowing about them.

  • @heth6 Neil young and Radiohead are my two favourite artists actually, that comment was just a joke. Another guy just commented that there are to many music snob Radiohead fans, so I just pretended to act like a snob for a joke. I hate hipsters too.

  • The world is turning, man I feel it drifting so fuckin' far away, make it stop.

  • Great cover. How 'bout some pics of the man, though?

  • Two of my favorites come together

  • That Radiohead like Neil Young shows that they have exquisite taste in music. But we knew that talready. THis is cool.

  • god bless everyone involved in making it possible for me to listen to this

  • It's really reassuring to know that such a great band have such wonderful taste in the music that they like themselves! I love both Radiohead and Neil. Not a perfect cover by them, but pretty damn good. Keep up the fabulous work guys. Very much appreciated.

  • Not sure how the subject of Coldplay came up in the comments for this video...but, yes, Coldplay is a very good band. ...But Radiohead is truly great...one of the top 10 (if not top 5) bands ever in my opinion.

  • so $

  • @09prizefighter09 I never realised that until I read Neil was a huge influence of theirs. Great music breeds more great music.

  • Radiohead can make anything sound amazing. And to cover Neil Young is to create a song indescribably good.

  • Radiohead are such a good band.

  • @09prizefighter09 yeah .

  • @09prizefighter09 yeah cazzy eh. but at the same time thom's voice has a unique quality to it..his covers do justice to neil

  • radiohead should put all their neil young covers together and make it a tribute cd...!! that"d be badass...

  • @sleepboyproductions agreed. id invest in it.

  • @sleepboyproductions amazing !!

  • this is awesome! Thom's voice is perfect for a song like this!

  • shit tom sounds quite exactly as neil...5 stars cover

  • Why do we judge bands on how long they last? Stones, Beatles and Radiohead are simply incomparable they are so different. They are all amazing and they all DOMINATE coldplay.

  • @fatdogtavern

On a cover of Neil Young you gonna post some sjit about coldplay? I hope you realise how stupid you could have been. Have a nice yellow day.

  • @joshkmusic Why do we compare bands at all? I'm makes me so fucking bored to see EVERY video here on YT with the slightest musical content have thousands of comments pertaining to either Justin Bieber, Coldplay or Lady Gaga. Though neither of them are worthy to wear Neil's dirty socks imho, who cares? Let them to their thing and Neil do his.

  • where can i download this?

  • Wow!!!

I was a Neil Young freak back in the day, and a Radiohead freak today.

I would pay serious dollars to see Radiohead do this song in a small venue of less than 1,000 people.

This definitely is not a festival song.

  • I hate Radiohead. But DAMN, they get mad props for playing this song. Good taste.

  • How in the eff could you possibly hate Radiohead? Do you hate pizza, ice cream, and puppies as well??

  • Puppies? Yes. Radiohead is too hipstery and instrumentally clean-shaven. I need some hardness or some raw rock swagger. But tell you what, take Neil, Radiohead, and Steve Albini, then put 'em in a room together and you'll have something I could listen to..

  • pearl jam does neil better than anyone....they even played mirrorball & toured with the man..not to mention their respect for each other...though tom resembles neil the better...vocal wise

  • @AlvinLeeIsGod lol just lol

  • That already happened Alvin....it's called "Yanqui UXO" by Godspeed you Black Emperor.

  • @ComradeCrusty i personally can't stand most of that album, however all the other GY!BE albums are phenomenal.

  • @Kinshasa9200 some say that Steve Albini's production actually took away from GYBE's raw live communal soundscape and that might be true, but having heard the pieces from the album played live......the album is more forgivable and your ears/mind can 'hear' what they were trying to do....unless you just don't like the musical work which is fine....I love it....I think it was probably very difficult for GYBE to put together an album during the start of the Iraq War...and we are left with Yanqui..

  • @Kinshasa9200 I agree

  • If Coldplay are the Beatles, Radiohead are the Stones. Both extremely talented and prolific, one clean and the other raw.

  • @SemiTall

You've got that way backwards. Also, I don't see Coldplay lasting as long as the Beatles or the Stones.

  • To your second comment, well, the Beatles lasted 10 years as a band. The Stones will probably survive nuclear war.

  • Hahaha, well put. But I meant legacy-wise. Beatles and Stones are legends of their time. I like Coldplay, but I don't see them representing this decade in music any more than U2 represents the 80's.

  • @SemiTall

Yes but the beatles were better

  • coldplay= beatles? radiohead= stones? me= WTF are you talkin about?

  • Shouldn't it be titled - Radiohead - On the Beach (Neil Young Cover)? Yeah, it should. Kind of misleading.

  • shouldnt ur nickname b "STUPED_IDIET" yea, .kind of misleading.

  • If you're going to insult somebody and call them "Stupid idiot" at least spell it correctly, moron. That's not misleading at all.

  • :DD just mentioned it! U have sharp eyes buddy=)

  • @HeyJaw

I'm sure he means Radioheads cover of this song

  • @HeyJaw Takes you half a second to click on whatever version you wanted

  • @HeyJaw I really feel that you are being ridiculously petty. Considering just how many totally misleading titles there are on Yoo Toob, Zedetnik has basically told you what the video/song is, - and the title is true & appropriate. Ok, it could have been worded slightly better, but compared with half the drivel people use to grab attention, this title is fine. Go & buy some f**kin' tampons.

  • @HeyJaw

How is it misleading? It's Neil Young's [composition] "On The Beach" [as performed] by Radiohead. Pretty straightforward, I don't see anybody could be mislead, except for maybe that errant comma.

  • @HeyJaw

Yeah, I feel so cheated... honestly, what does it matter? What did you expect, an original song called 'Neil Young's on the Beach' by Radiohead?

  • Good Lord...This is incredible!

  • Get the album by Neil young it's great

  • alone at the microphone.....just where is neil anyway on this song.oh well this is a pretty faithfull cover so we got that at least........

  • Comment removed

  • This song always makes me think of "The Stranger".

  • Impresionante me encanta esta cancion esta super chingona no tengo palabras para describir lo que siento cuando la oigo y mas si viene de Radiohead

  • This is a class act - simply stunning. Thom's voice coupled with that fantastic guitar sound is just devastating!

  • Yes this is awesome the guitars sound incredible I like it more than the original.

  • Dude, you think this is good, try the original...shit rocks.

Thom's voice is haunting but Neil's falsetto is the original and I gotta say, better.

  • Fabulous cover. May be better than their version of Joy Division's "Ceremony." Shows how talented they are at not just technically playing a song, but managing to evoke a mood.

  • "Though my problems are meaningless, that don't make them go away." Such a good line, sung beautifully.

  • "If we smile, can we go?"

  • Absolutely fantastic. My favourite songwriter being covered by my favourite (uncoverable) band. I think I have listened to this about 27 times on loop. Thank you for sharing.

  • same thing here

  • Thom Yorks voice very similar to Neil's.

    Great cover! Thanks for uploading.

  • brilliant cover, i think its better than the original, does anybody know if u can get this on cd, great tune

  • this is legend, thom's voice makes it burn

  • first of all it's better THAN. second, Neil Young wrote the damn song, his version is perfection. granted this cover is amazing but the original is breathtaking.

  • its a traditional homage style cover, doesn't really add anything too it. a good cover, yes. a better version, no. just because what you said wasn't funny, doesn't mean its not a joke, it's just a bad one

  • Hey man no disrespect to you or Radiohead which I love but Neil's version is so thrilling that I just don't see how could anyone say that. Vocals are cool on this cover but hell Neil's solo on the original are just beyond words, it makes my soul cry every damn time

  • My favorite band covering my favorite artist :D

  • Thanks to their covers Radiohead got me obsessed with Neil Young.

And The Smiths. And Joy Division.

  • Harvest, the world is turning, but I won't turn away from you. Tina

  • A respectable cover

  • Comment removed

  • Radiohead also soundchecked Neil Young's Down By The River. So it's 5 Neil Young covers by Radiohead, right?

  • Nice Song Radiohead and Neil are such legendary music wizards.

  • so sick! Neil Young is a hero of mine, and I've only recently beeing diggin' radiohead! too good

  • This surpasses anything I imagined as a cover! I hate to say it, but I prefer this to Neil's version. Please don't tell Neil. . . : )

  • Neil Young & Radiohead are 2 of my favorite artists. This is fucking great!

  • Semplicemente MERAVIGLIOSA!!!

  • You don`t know their own music....

  • You really specialize in spouting complete bullshit don't you? Explain to me the similarities between Thom Yorke and Yoko Ono and why you think they can be lumped into the same category. I'm definitely interested in reading what you have to say. Relevance is key here, not liking a musician doesn't open up the "six degrees of seperation" idea either.

  • Oh I've also decided to come up with a small list of differences since you think its so improbable.

    1. Yoko Ono was married to John Lennon

    2. Thom Yorke was not.

    3. Yoko Ono was born in 33... Thom Yorke in 68

    4. ... I can keep going on with stupid differences but the main one is they have no connection whatsoever to each other.

By the way.. riddle me this. Name me the difference between Beyer160 and a pile of decomposing manure... You can;t, can you?

    Ignorance is bliss isn't it.

  • Oh dear- pissed in your cornflakes, did I? I suppose I can't blame you for being overly defensive when someone points out that the emperor has no clothes. It's interesting though that you felt the need to list utterly meaningless differences between Yorke and Ono without addressing the relevant points- the fact that they are both talentless hacks, and sound ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME when they "sing". Listen to Yoko's Plastic Ono Band- it sounds like Radiohead, but with better musicians.

  • I d be interested to know what your 'real' music is first. Then i would question your hearing ability fair enough if you dont like radiohead(your loss) , but to say its not actual music makes you sound ignorant.

  • well go on then tell us with your obvious musical wisdom and all your carefuly reasoned opinions which bands have climbed to the dizzy heights of your favour.

  • The lyrics were Harry Patch's own words.

  • Yes, and just because you don't like it, everyone mustn't like it.

    Fuck off.

If you think this is not quality music and even musical evolution, then your opinion is worthless.

  • great point

  • @Zedetnik Touched a nerve, did I? If you think Radiohead's talentless noise is musical "evolution", you are either retarded or deaf.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion of course- unless it disagrees with yours, evidently. Banning me from posting comments? How lame.

  • Beyer160, I was willing to respect your opinion until you mentioned what type of guitars they play. Your opinions are essentially baseless and worthless.

I agree, the last two longs Radiohead released are fairly lacklustre compared to the rest of their efforts... But at the same time, you absolutely can't deny the impact Radiohead has had on popular music. They changed it just as much as The Beatles did in their era and it'll take a few generations for people like you to wake up to it.

  • @Beyer160 are you kidding. You think that some talentless amateurs could just start jamming in 5/4 to a 4/4 beat with that kind of song structure. You don't get it.

  • @Beyer160

There's millions of artists in the world, why troll videos of those you don't happen to like? get a life.

  • @HowAboutSomeTruth1 Because they massacred a song I happen to love. I suggest you "get a life" and find a band to like that doesn't suck monkey balls.

  • @Beyer160 Have u ever actually attempted learning These Are My Twisted Words? He uses GCGGBe which is a tuning i've never heard of, uses like 20 different chord shapes with varying picking and strumming patterns, for anybody who actually knows two damns about guitar it's a freaking masterpiece, all you've done here is embarrass yourself with this pathetic display of musical ignorance.

  • @jirdimaster I wasn't aware that using atonal tunings and obscure chord voicings automatically equalled great music- thanks for the update! You're obviously a kool-aid drinker who feels the need to justify your love of this horrific skronk because no one in their right mind would listen to such crap. Johhny Ramone probably never played 20 chords in his entire life and managed to make classic rock 'n' roll- Radiohead are obviously incapable of doing so no matter how much weird crap they play.

  • @ManginCharles Are you actually glorifying mainstream rock?

  • @jirdimaster Are the Ramones mainstream? Radiohead got more airplay than they did, so you tell me. Is one of Neil Young's least commercial albums "mainstream"? I really don't care whether music is considered "mainstream" or not- I only care if it's any good. I listen to plenty of obscure music, as well as classic rock warhorses. I make no distinction between them based on popularity.

Conversely, do you think non-"mainstream" music is automatically better simply by virtue of its unpopularity?

  • @ManginCharles I'll admit that against all odds a few good artists will get popular, but the fact that the beauty and complexity of These Are My Twisted Words flew over your head only fortifies my belief that you are a slobbering idiot. The Ramones play a bunch of G C D pop bullshit, it takes no talent to use chord combination's and hooks that have been used a 100 times over.

  • @jirdimaster Like whatever you want, but the fact that you can't appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the Ramones tells me you're just a hipster douchebag. Pointless complexity and willful atonality alone are meaningless. The Ramones said more with three chords than Radiohead ever will.

"Love Me Do" was a four chord song, was that "pop bullshit" too? Or did the Beatles just suck because they were "mainstream"?

  • @ManginCharles It's all a matter of whether or not you actually know ANYTHING about music, it's apparent you don't so you're simply going off your uneducated opinion. If you want shallow, cheap entertainment then the Ramones are great, but that's not art, it's a product, like Hannah Montana or Go-Gurt. I love The Beatles but Love Me Do could have been written by a four year old.

  • @jirdimaster So you have to know ABOUT music to have an opinion? Wow, you really are a pretentious ass. If you knew the first thing about art, you'd know that differentiating between "high" and "low" art is a false argument for snobs and dilettantes.

For the record I've played guitar for 20 years and make my living as an audio engineer. I've produced records and played on them. My "professional" opinion is that Radiohead is nothing more than pretentious noise. What they do has been done better.

  • @ManginCharles By whom? I wanna see the band that can do what Radiohead does and do it better.

  • @jirdimaster Sonic Youth.

  • @ManginCharles Sonic Youth is horrible dude, you're lying, you really don't know anything about music.

  • @jirdimaster What a lame response. So I gather that you ether:

    a) are unfamiliar with SY and thus incapable of seeing how they're the vastly superior band

    or

    b) are simply a poser who actually knows nothing about music, but pretends to in order to justify their fandom of horrifically untalented wankers.

SY virtually define the term experimental and have spent their career pushing musical boundaries. Radiohead began as bland college rock and became uninspired, droning noodlers. No contest.

  • @ManginCharles You've just been beating around the bush and now you're trying to turn it around on me, u were lying. It's people like u that made bands like Abba and Greenday famous.

  • @jirdimaster

So now you've abandoned rational thought and are just spewing random recrimination. ABBA and Green Day? That's the best you can do?

"jirdimaster, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

  • @ManginCharles

"Wow, you're really a pretentious ass. If you knew the first thing about art..."

"What a lame response...thus incapable of seeing how they're the vastly superior band..."

    -ManginCharles

Can you see where you're hypocrisy in the usage of the term "pretentious" lies in?

  • @UHandsomeDevil i see both hypocracy and pretenses. :/

  • @Drjebus : Wait. In my comment or his?

  • The number of chords an artist uses says absolutely nothing about the quality of their music. As a blues, this Neil Young song relies mostly on a three-chord I-IV-V progression in a minor key. Does it suck?

    I think not.

  • And you really seem like you're unfamiliar with Radiohead's albums. You probably listened to maybe one or two songs from Kid A or Hail to the Theif... I suggest you form your own opinion instead of reading harsh reviews by jaded music journalists who have fell behind the times and adopting their views as your own.

Radiohead have made flawless, culturally relevant music over the years and if you can't see that, then you have no real connection to this generation, and I just feel sorry for you.

  • HeeR HeeR

  • This is absolutely stunning ! RaDiOhEaD really rules !

  • This is AWESOME

  • Thom Yorke looks up to Neil Young like Chris Martin looks up to Thom Yorke. Thom and Neil are two of my heroes. Chris Martin is cool too. He's written better songs than I have.

  • I agree, Chris Martin has written better songs than I have, also. However, that makes him neither cool nor worth listening to (especially anything after Parachutes and some of Rush of Blood).

  • Rush of Blood was the only Coldplay album worth listening to, in my opinion. And it was amazing. But nothing like any of Radiohead's albums after The Bends. Because each and every one of those was its own kind of masterpiece.

  • I think most of the "This is Coldplay" people are just giving you the piss. My guess is one person thought it was them and it pissed someone off and now its just, "yeah, Coldplay pwned this cover"

Like people who would mistake Radiohead for Coldplay have really every listened to and loved this album anyway.

Chris Martin loves Radiohead. That's about it.

How about someone upload the Neil Young album cut of this so I can share it with friends.

    I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

  • chris may love radiohead but radiohead changed their sound cause coldplay and others were ripping off of their sound

  • Rock band?

  • i call troll

  • There's a guy out there who claims to have all of Coldplay's and Radiohead's albums and STILL thinks this is Coldplay!

  • maybe he/she thinks that RH is coldplay and coldplay is RH :)

  • Good point ;-)
