It's rather like before FCP you only heard that the "serious" companies only used Avid. Things like Glidecam do help level the playing field for us on the fringes. Though the learning curve is probably steeper ( I've never used a stedicam) the results can be just as good if you take the time to master it. I don't care if my gears not as pretty, it's the results that matter to me.
dam G...I use to shoot on the camera back in high school. Before that we used the suitcase camera...you know, the 2 person camera. one had the case and the other had the camera...old school. Then our school got funding and we got DVCAMS...wish we had a Glidecam!
I have to agree with the "formaset".. I looked extensively at the GlideCam a few years back but since bought into SteadiCam. I use the SC Pilot with a 5.8 LCD and IDX Enduras, (Cheaper than the Archer), and the quality is far beyond all the copycat makes.. But more importantly so is the end result! I have not noticed any serious op or film company use anything else but SteadiCam.
If you are serious about buying a stabilization unit, I strongly advise you try both before you buy.. you'll see!
@Jay1967@Jay1967 i so wish i could try before i buy...Nashville, TN has not a one place to do such a thing...i think i am one of a scant few to own my own steadicam and glidecam...JR and pro2000 respectively...

After I bought a STEADICAM brand, I will NEVER go back to a GLIDECAM! There is no comparison. I have and own a Steadicam Archer, rent a Steadicam Ultra II
How do you balance the cam on that stage? I rented an HD4000, for a high school graduation. It was very difficult to balance, if not near impossible. So I didn't use it.
NIce your camera is huge :D and look at that amount of balancing weights needs to be on the rig. I never know that Glidecam has been there for that long
Nice to see someone on youtube who knows how to balance this freakin' thing. I had a DP on my last shoot who sucked at balancing it and my shot had to be thrown out. Thankfully we took a safety with a track dolly.

@formaset ...but for a filmmaker with no or little budget...is the GLIDECAM practical? Thanks in advance for your response.

Nice footage! Would look better if you had more wide angle shots.
I'm using the Glidecam 4000. It's a great piece of equipment as long as it's balanced well initially.
wolfangdigital 2 years ago
Not bad, but two years old. I'm guessing you have newer, more superior footage?
You need some widescreen shots, superior lighting (like magic hour). Some of the shots here are vignetted.
Good montage though. I like the set-up, the union affiliation, and the music matched.
