  • I've heard Ferlin do several different version of this song, and this is my favorite. This recording of it is a master piece. His vocal performance here is amazing, very dynamic. We are lucky to have it. Thanks for posting.

  • @turbodonkey

This is sure "the masterpiece" version. For sure .... thanks for posting!

  • AAAAA

  • Amazing song! 1st time I heard it I wanted to find out who sang it and the song title.

  • What a treasure he was. I've always loved his voice. He was a handsome gentleman, too! I think the first time I heard him on the radio was a station out of Shreveport which I could pick up on my grandfathers upstairs radio n Marshall, TX. I must have been 10 or 11. I'll miss him.

  • Great song. I used to have a 45 of Buddy Holly's version, bur can't find it anywhere now.

  • Hadn't heard of his death, so sorry to hear of it. I hope he rode away, On the Wings of a Dove.

  • R.I.P. Ferlin

  • it is so sad to think that you are gone. Love your music.

  • Ferlin Eugene Husky (December 3, 1925 – March 17, 2011) was an early American country music singer who was equally adept at the genres of traditional honky honk, ballads, spoken recitations, and rockabilly pop tunes. He had two dozen Top 20 hits in the Billboard country charts between 1953–1975; his versatility and matinee-idol looks propelling a seven-decade entertainment career.[1]

In 2010, Husky was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

  • I was feeding cows in Montana when this song came on the truck radio. It knocked me out then and it still does, all these years later. Tamp 'er light, Ferlin. You did good.

  • Thanks so much for posting this live and best version of "Gone". Am I the only one who wishes the song wasn't interupted with whatever that stupid vote counting bit was?

  • Rest in Peace, Ferlin Husky.

  • RIP. An unforgettable song, A great singer.

  • RIP Ferlin Husky

  • Ferlin was a genuine person........... A fantastic soul and I'm thankful to have gotten to know him a little in the last five years of his life. this is the song I grew up loving. It reached in and touched the soul. There'll never be another one like Ferlin Husky and I'll sure miis him.

  • R. I. P.

  • great

  • Visiting the Country Music Hall Of Fame,a few years ago, this song was featured as THE song that began "the Nashville Sound". Enough said.

  • I am glad that Ferlin finally got what he deserved by getting inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame while he could enjoy it. I watched Heart to Heart classics the last week and he was on there for only fifteen minutes and barely got started telling how he got started in the business he needs to be recognized more than what he has been in the last several years for his talent and contributions to country music.

  • Now you've gone...one of my favorite songs, as it relates so much to my younger days.

  • Brilliant singer

  • I enjoy his singing; would like to see Sea Sand posted to be heard again.

  • bought the 45 in nems, liverpool in1957,always been one of my favourite sad slobberin' tearjerkers! watched him last week on ralph emery's rural tv show, shoot he's wearing as good as me! brian epstein gave me his follow up 45, Terrific Together. love to hear that sometime!

  • This was big hit for Husky. Ironically, he grew up in a predominately Muslim community in southeast Missouri. His maternal grandfather was an imam in the community. Husky finished school with the thought of becoming an imam himself, but the chance to travel to France and study piano under Jan Paderewski presented itself, and he debuted as a soloist at the Musée de la Musique in 1949. His first recording was as a keyboard artist, with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Symphony.

  • such a beautiful, deep, rich voice. and so hansome!!!....did you catch that little flicker in his eye brow?...oh what a cutie!

  • This song by Ferlin is a classic. We love all of his music. We met him years ago at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge in Nashville and he was very gracious to us. I like seeing Ferlin's alter ego, Simon Crum, with the goofy baseball cap on. Did Ferlin (as Simon) record some songs? It's hard to remember just who did what and when. Thanks for posting this. - Paula

  • Who says that 13 is an unlucky number? For Ferlin Husky, it wasn't. This was the thirteenth #1 Country and Western hit in the Rock Era. It also went to #4 on the Top 40 charts. At that point, only Elvis Presley and Tennessee Ernie Ford had crossover #1 hits to the Top 40.

  • Oh just to dance with my wife one more time to this song. Now she is gone.

  • my dad is named after him , his name is Ferlin.

  • I remember seeing Ferlin Husky at Old Tucson Movie Studios many years ago. The man put on one of the most memorable shows I've ever seen.

  • the bass man on this video was Mr. James Boggs good friend and we miss him greatly

  • Love it! Love it! Love It! Oh for these great ole country singers again. Too much has changed in what is called country music today. And not for the best either.

    Linda

  • my wife just loves this song

  • ARe those backup singers Bill Phillips and Ruby Wright? Great song of Ferlin's and my all time favorite!

  • Im not much of a country person but I love this song and Ferlin Husky!

  • Gotta love Ferlin... Thanks for sharing.

  • Classic!

  • That song is in the movie Dessert Hearts.

  • This is a great song. I remembered when I first heard it. I loved the lyrics and that voice, great combination. I am an African American who thinks the world of Ferlin Husky's talent.

  • @Polly1942 Yes, he could sing pretty well--a good depth to his voice.

  • Could listen to ole Ferlin all day.

  • i luv this song thank so much for posting

  • This is just a smokin' version of this great old song. Love the little girl and the extra flurishes going down that Ferlin adds to the best know version. The quality of the video is also mighty fine, considering how old it is. Used to hear this on the truck radio while feeding cows. Thanks so much for posting.

And I hope you're doing better, Ferlin.

  • I LOVED this song when I was 18 in 1957. I STILL love it!!

  • I was born 1962 and i loved GONE too.

  • Ferlin's in the hospital here in Nashville today (July 11) with a rapid heartbeat.

Prayers go out to Ferlin for a speedy recovery.

  • On the wings of a snow white dove...

  • I had forgotten what an incredible voice he had. Thanks for posting it. Enjoyed it very much! Does anyone have an update on his health?

  • What a voice! Also, I love what he does with his right (to the viewer) eyebrow--like Elvis' swiveling hips only more subtle and more sexy.

  • wow....that's all I can say!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this version, it is great.

  • Wonderful, thank you.

  • My opinion, he is one of the best country singers of all time, along with Lefty Frizzell, and Faron Young.

  • Thank you so much for this one.

    My favorite from Ferlin.

  • What a singer, what a voice, how come Ferlin did not enjoy the fame he deserved ?
