Midwives are more logical and try to avoid cutting off the blood and oxygen supply to the baby but there are still many hospitals (Darlington Memorial Hospital excluded) where the majority of midwives "have to " follow the NICE intrapartum care guideline on early cord clamping as part of active management whether they agree with it or not. A review of this guidleine is just starting on Friday but unfortunatley it will be years before the review is complete ! In the meantime - try to ignore !
We midwives have been saying "don't cut the cord if baby needs help getting going!" forever.....why severe the only working source of their oxygen and continued blood volume in order to get another system up and running? Genius! Thank you!
